As we Godzilla fans already know, shooting for Toho’s first domestically produced Godzilla film in nearly 12 years commenced a few days ago, under the watchful supervision of Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. Photos and videos have been flooding the web, and more are expected to hit soon with another major day of shooting recently completed. Be sure to head over to Gormaru Island to see their exhaustive coverage and growing archive of images and clips... our first glimpse at this mysterious and exciting film!
However, even with all of this new material coming in from Japan, one piece of potentially big news has yet to be shared here. I urge all readers to PLEASE take this information with a grain of salt… maybe a handful, just to be safe.
On September 6th, August Ragone, who has been breaking Godzilla 2016 news since the film was first announced (it was he who broke that news here in America back in December) via his stellar blog, wrote a short piece on the beginning of the film’s shooting. In it, he mentions that,
“According to [my] sources, "New Godzilla" will premiere in Japanese Cinemas on Saturday, July 23, 2016”.
He then urges his readers to stay tuned for official confirmation, (which I’m re-reiterating here), but if this is true, then at last, G-fans have a concrete date to look forward too!
Be sure to check back often for more updates on the film as production continues, more mysteries come to light, and a release date is 100% confirmed. The countdown to the King’s return continues!
