On August 8th, 2000, a Japanese Godzilla film hit U.S. theaters for the first time in 15 years. Essentially used as damage control for fans after the 1998 flick bombed, Sony brought the Millennium Series debut, Godzilla 2000, to North America. Since then fans have been blessed with numerous theatrical re-releases of Toho's Godzilla films, three Hollywood Godzilla flicks and the North American debut of Shin Godzilla (2016).
For many, Godzilla 2000 felt like the beginning of a long lineage for Godzilla theatrical experiences in the States. So it's fitting that in celebration of Godzilla's anniversary, Godzilla 2000 is expected to return to theaters! Fandango has listed a 2023, Fathom Events screening for the movie. Meanwhile, AMC Theaters has listed the title for November 1st, 2023. An official announcement is expected soon.
It is unknown if this will be Sony's English cut or the Japanese version. It may be relevant to note, when Godzilla against MechaGodzilla (2002) and Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003) were given Fathom Events screenings, they played the Japanese versions with English subtitles. Stay tuned for more information as it comes. Are you looking forward to Godzilla 2000's return to the big screen? Let us know!
