GMAN2887 - Hmm...I am also somewhat reminded of the Kong from the 1980's film starring Jeff Bridges. :)
I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. It's nice to see Legendary embracing the mythical fantasy angle to Kong and trying to make him look like a unique distinctive creature, rather than just an overgrown silverback gorilla like in 2005. The design seems like a nice mixture of the original 1933 Kong and the Toho Kongs. I imagine when he does finally throw down with Godzilla in 2020, aside from a size boost, he will look old and hardened, compared to his "young and energetic" look here. This film could develop Kong earlier in his life and show how he became "King Kong," while Godzilla vs. Kong will feature an older and more experienced Kong past his prime. It would be interesting to see that kind of battle, considering that I often look at the Legendary Godzilla being sort of past his prime as well.
GMAN2887 - Oh, how very neat! I greatly enjoy the design! It reminds me of Ray Harryhausen's work! :)
YES DARK NEBULA! XD
Cool but not as cool as the original.
Avenge Harambe!
hype is everywhere!
I'm loving this design! He does look a bit thin, but remember too Kong is relatively young in this movie. He'll likely bulk up before his match up with Godzilla.
He would also look older
Probably largely depends general audience reaction to him.
Any complaints lookwise could be conveniently attributed to adolescence
^Most likely a spike in size
"There’s obviously a huge power to him, but there’s a sadness contained within his animation. The way that he walks and his facial capture fused with this very energetic, young Kong at the same time."
Kong being acknowledged as young definitely makes the whole idea interesting. I wonder how much of his design will be possibly tweaked by 2020?
^I agree. Hopefully he'll be around the size of Godzilla 2014 by the time they fight
He seems like bigfoot or something based on that shot if you put it with the somewhat lanky appearance of his lower body in the first trailer.
He is supposed to be young so maybe he's still got so bulking up to do.
I already appreciate what I've seen so far more than Jackson's version. Minor nitpick, but he looks a little thin in this particular shot, but I'm sure its just the angle.
Still hard to tell really what I think.
It will be easier when we get close to a full body shot.
Love the introduction of Godzilla, great fight.

AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chapter Five is up!
(I don't believe I've ever set up one entry of the series for a sequel. I guess this story arc will be direct sequels. Before I finish this up, I'll try to get a permanent end to the series when I finish this arc (three arcs of four stories, even though I've made like three final entries to the series before.)
For future reference, here are the three arcs-
1. Monsters controlled by SpaceGodzilla attack Earth, but Godzilla, Anguirus, Rodan, and Mothra defeat him and his army. However, the Xiliens attack Earth with the same method, but are defeated twice, even with Mecha-SpaceGodzilla. They create a hybrid monster, which is defeated too (Godzilla Wars-The Monster War)
2. The humans realize that Godzilla could be the source of their problems, and attack him with mechs and robots, but are defeated. Then, they attack Godzilla with a hybrid monster, but are defeated again. Then, they form an alliance with the Xiliens to fight Godzilla, but fail, resulting in peace for fifteen years (World War G-Godzilla Wars: Aftermath).
3. An unknown alien race sends giant monsters to attack Monster Island as a civil war begins, but it is a distraction to prevent Godzilla from finding out about a giant killing machine that cannot feel pain. He is heavily damaged in the process of defeating it, resulting in Shin Godzilla being spawned, and Godzilla having to defeat it (Godzilla Wars Reborn-Present).
(If you want any more history of the series or plans for the future, just PM me. :) )
Wow.....yet more coming right Sci-Fi King25?
Chapter Four is up!
(You're probably questioning this ending. The vibrations on Shin's skin are a sign of his constant evolution to fit his needs (in this case fighting Godzilla). Maybe you're wondering about why Shin seems at peace. Look up the lyrics to Who Will Know (Tragedy) from the Shin Godzilla OST. It's supposed to be from Godzilla's perspective. However, this isn't the last we'll be seeing of this character. ;) )
Mhm now the world is crazier....
^And Maledictus is triggered
Both Shin Gojira and LT triggered oh gawd...
As Gman2887 and TKOM (The King Of Monsters) said, Shin Gojira is like an unique Godzilla movie made by the creativity of Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. Yet the movie makes me think of a new era of Godzilla movies. Shin Gojira reminds me of the beloved and fan favourite Gojira 1954 the first Godzilla movie to be ever made.
Shin Gojira is like the modernized and unique 1954. It seems likely to me that Toho may repeat history in a new style. The end is symbolic, terrifying yet could open a new gate to a sequel. But if it ever happens the sequel will be in need of a risktaking and creative director like Anno.
Gman what's those humanoid figures on the top right and left corner of the second fan art?
While 2014 is about 10 meters shorter than Shin and Heisei is about 8 meters shorter than 2014, I don't think the image was necessarily going for correct scale, but symmetry.
^I do like the other image, with the original Gojira on the left and his most recent incarnation on the right
^Indeed Heisei is the smallest of the three.
^Legendary Godzilla is also up to Shin Gojira's lower jaw
The sizes are wrong in the artwork though. Godzilla 2014 is only four meters or so smaller, the art has him on the same size as Heisei. Can't be legit.
Lord Tyrant,
The Godzilla on the right is the Heisei Godzilla, not Final Wars. Seems to be modeled after the BioGoji.
^oh thanks for clarification
^I don't know. I think there's plenty of talent in Japan that could capitalize on the direction Shin Godzilla took with their own artistic spin.
But you're right in that we don't need what torpedoed the series before. There's only so many times we can have Godzilla fight MechaGodzilla and Mothra during a night time climax in an urban area. New monsters don't quite cut it either, especially when older monsters can easily take on similar roles.
Shin Godzilla's success had everything to do with risk, vision, deviation and yet a firm grasp on the source material. We don't need to go backwards to be sure, but I think there's talent out there that can spin Godzilla the way Anno did.
Pay Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi whatever it takes to make the sequel. Otherwise I don;t think it will measure up. I truly believe that this may be the finest Godzilla movie that will get made in my lifetime and anyone who takes over will only succumb to the impulses that have plaiged subsequent Godzilla films.
If Shin Godzilla gets a sequel which it must due to how it ended it must have Godzilla reawaken. Godzilla will awaken and then it will go into some sort of stage where it will try to spread it's species. The movie will deal of how to stop the spread of the Godzillas. The Japanese will try to cover up the events that unfold until other cities start to report sightings of Godzilla like forms. The Japanese will then be forced to try to control the spread and do something about the epidemic. After studying Shin Godzilla compared to the smaller immature forms of Godzilla they find some sort of difference that could be key to helping destroy the Godzillas. They go on a race against the clock to prevent an apocalypse. They develop a weapon that targets the smaller forms vulnerable parts and kill the remaining groups. Meanwhile they must come to terms on how they will annihilate Shin Godzilla. Coexistence will be difficult. A complex creature must have some sort of end. In the end they find a way to keep Godzilla from reproduction by target his brain. This keeps the spread at bay.
