RR44Godzilla Minus Zero NewsLegendary's Godzilla 2 officially titled Godzilla: King of Monsters!

perhaps I'm looking at this the wrong way.. maybe multiple kaiju will be featured in the sequel.. and Godzilla kicks all their butts.. or.. as a King.. leads a couple of them to victory over a foe. Either way.. I'm getting excited for it.. even though the title is so so with me. Here's an idea for a title.. Godzilla Reigns. as in Reign of the King.. hmm..eh.. what about that one ? All I know is.. we will get 2 kings.. Kong being the other.

Both are menacing, but Legendary Godzilla stomps all over the 1995 design

Honestly, I could see Rodan working alongside King Ghidorah more than Mothra. Though, honestly, it feels like it'll end up with Rodan being, at first, an opponent of Godzilla due to a territorial dispute. This is the alpha conflict, and can be used to showcase Rodan as a better flying fighter than the male M.U.T.O., but ultimately not as powerful as Godzilla.

Mothra could come in later, acting as a warning of King Ghidorah, and has various abilities. Not as agile as Rodan or as strong as Godzilla, but more unpredictable.

King Ghidorah could perhaps combine all three of the aspects I highlighted: agility, strength, and unpredictability. This set-up would test all three opposing monsters' abilities, and force them to team up to take on a foe that matches them in their strongest areas and is superior to them in the other aspects.

@Chris, I think they will. Since Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah are the only monsters we can confirm alongside Godzilla, this may lead towards what would be considered a remake of "Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster," in which Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan all teamed up to defeat King Ghidorah. I can't see Mothra joining forces with Ghidorah. It was done in GMK but it was rather annoying when you look at the characters themselves. Mothra, the peaceful guardian of the Earth and Ghidorah, the King of Terror. They would be natural enemies. Sure, in GMK they made Ghidorah good and Godzilla bad, But Ghidorah just isn't a good monster. He has been cemented as one of Godzilla's most formidable and evil enemies. If Ghidorah and Mothra were to work together, it just wouldn't due the characters justice. (Don't get me wrong, GMK was a good movie. I only didn't like that King Ghidorah wasn't evil)

@Gman2887, you called him, "Kong of Monsters" instead of "King of Monsters." And I like your idea. While I would like to see the 2014 Godzilla get stronger, the idea that Godzilla's age is putting him at disadvantage is kinda intriguing. He is, after all, millions of years old.

@RR44 I can understand where you're coming from. However, Godzilla is known to many American viewers who have never seen a Toho Godzilla film before, includingknowledge of his status as "King of the Monsters". It's just common knowledge at this point.

And to add to that, any title that begins with "Age" or something of the sorts seems aligned towards more action-oriented movies, which Godzilla is not. The sequel will most likely have a very serious undertone, and the title should convey that.

Some arguments to support a LegeGoji victory (I've already mentioned some of this information):

LegeGoji tanks multiple megaton nukes in his background stories. The 2014 movie's opening sequence depicts the Castle Bravo detonation which was a 15 megaton nuclear bomb. For comparison, a 1 megaton nuclear bomb's gamma rays would vaporize humans (leaving "ghost shadows" on the ground) within a 16 square kilometer radius and be followed by a pressure wave that induces bleeding from every orifice. That's not to mention possible resulting firestorms, the ensuing gale force winds, and high temperatures. Nuclear detonations reach temperatures of over 100 million degrees Celsius; that's multiple times hotter than the core of the sun (this is because the fission rate of a detonation is instantaneous compared to the sun's prolonged core fission, leading to hotter temperatures), which is only 15 million degrees Celsius. To withstand a nuclear explosion at its epicenter is an impossibly mind staggering durability feat, let alone multiple detonations.

ShinGoji, on the other hand, was heavily injured by two GBU-57 MOPs (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) to the extent that he had to evolve active countermeasure defenses (the laser defenses) to avoid being hit again. While GBU-57s are massive (14,000 kg), they are still conventional weapons and their blast yields are nowhere near comparable to those that LegeGoji has tanked (repeatedly). Not to mention, the United States's GBU-57 MOPs have been through testing and are shown to have the following penetration capabilities per individual MOP: 61 meters of normal, 5000 psi hardened concrete, "8 meters of 10,000 psi rock or concrete," and only "2 meters of 30,000 psi material" (Next Big Future, May 2016) which is right around the level of strong granite.

LegeGoji tanks point blank nuclear blasts, while ShinGoji received severe injuries from a conventional penetration weapon that loses 86% effectiveness when you double the strength of normal concrete. But why would LegeGoji display reactions to conventional weaponry while ShinGoji doesn't flinch (aside from the MOPs)?

We know that LegeGoji has walked away from nuclear blasts, so what is the meaning of him showing pain when he is hit in the gills despite his healing ability and durability? Simply put, pain is one way the nervous system communicates outside influences; it's a survival mechanic. Therefore, it is possible that these conventional attacks don't actually have any significant physical effect on LegeGoji (how could they in the face of the nuke feat?) aside from sending neurological messages of attempted assaults on the body, aka "pain." Consider this: if you put your hand on a hot stove, you might yell out "Shit!" and pull your hand away, but are you about to die? Not even close. ShinGoji, on the other hand, is covered in scarring. If nerve function isn't working properly, there may be no indication to him that he's sustaining damage, which might explain a lack of visible pain responses.

As for a fight, there are advantages and disadvantages to either side of being able or unable to process pain; LegeGoji will process pain and react accordingly while ShinGoji might not even notice any sustained damage except until the point where his life is in jeopardy. We can't really be certain what extent of actual physical damage a pain stimulus corresponds to for LegeGoji, but we can look at their actual durability feats: LegeGoji survives multiple megaton nuclear blasts while ShinGoji is heavily injured by two conventional GBU-57 MOPs. In the end, I give the durability edge to LegeGoji by far, for the nuke feat.

@Gman2887 Point taken.. but my opinion stands on the title. They started with Godzilla to start with as the Title to the Edwards film.. so adding King of the monsters to the sequel title... in my opinion.. kind of reeks of desperation.. kind of a fan grab.. rather than a general audience grab... and the original 54 G (Jap) and G king of monsters (Hollywood).. were the same movie.. and then after the fact.. Toho released a second G film. My point is.. King Of the monsters could work.. if Skull Island and KING KONG weren't on the menu for Legendary. So you would have KK vs G-KOM.. There can only be One King of The monsters.. So who would it be? Kong or Godzilla.

Seeing as how MechaGodzilla almost killed Godzilla himself twice, I don't think the MechaGodzillas would have much of a problem defeating the other monsters.

True, although he had a hard enough time with the MUTOs, I wonder how he will manage facing Ghidorah... Rodan and Mothra I'm sure G can handle but Ghidorah has always been his most challenging opponent. I wonder if Mothra and Rodan will team up with Godzilla after all.

Pretty sure even if they are outnumbered, the MechaGodzilla combo would still come out on top.

Both took on 2 monsters at once, and none of the monsters listed are as good as the godzillas of that era.

Anguirus- punching bag of Godzilla's allies

Rodan- the weaker flying counterpart to Godzilla.

I don't think he'll be stronger since he fought the MUTOs. There's no real reason for it. I think he'll simply be older and even more overwhelmed by monsters who should be stronger and more vicious than the MUTOs. Overcoming them despite any disadvantages would solidify his title as "Kong of Monsters" more effectively than if he got some contrived power boost.

Good question! I assume he will have gained some strength and size perhaps. I'm also curious how his look might evolve for the next one, hopefully not too much as I was a big fan of his 2014 design.

I agree with Gman2887. There is nothing wrong with a little throwback to the classics. It is because Godzilla is king of the monsters that we must be reminded WHY he is King. This title gives the impression that Godzilla will once again prove he is worthy of the throne that has been his birthright since 1954. It is likely that due to the number of other Kaiju in this film that Godzilla will be stronger than when he fought the Muto's.

I have to agree, I quite enjoy this title selection. It is very retro and very indicative of what we can expect from its plot. Godzilla is going to lay a beat down on some imposing Monsters and set the stage as King for his match with THE other King, Kong. I quite like it! Also, leaving out the "the" is no hinderence either imo, grammatically it might look off, but for a title, it's perfect.

Great title. I was hoping we'd get some "Godzilla vs." throwback titles, but I suppose they're saving that for Godzilla vs. Kong. I think it would have been better had it only been titled King of the Monsters, but this will do. And makes sense as he'll be sharing the screen with many other imposing monsters.

@RR44,
I'm sorry, but literally every title you suggested reeks of the mindless, self-indulgent lack of integrity that plagues Michael Bay's movies. "Age of Devastation"? Really? How many "age of" movies have we had now? Age of Extinction? Age of Ultron? I'm glad Legendary is leaving that garbage behind and bringing back something retro!
