Thank you Gman and The King Of The Monsters! You both helped out with my questions.
Did both. when will the results come out?
Regarding the kaiju attacks alluded to in the intro of the film, some other individuals and I are currently working on translating info from the novel and will be making a video examining every kaiju attack that is confirmed to have happened in the future.
But the intro of the film specifically mostly depicts attacks described on the timeline thing. It shows Kamacuras' attack on New York in 1999, Dogora's attack on London in 2002, the aftermath of Hedorah killing Rodan and Anguirus in 2005 in Beijing, Dagahra's attack on Australia in 2017, and Orga's attack on Izmir in 2022.
Regarding which kaiju Godzilla killed and those that humanity defeated, Godzilla is confirmed to have killed Kamoebas IV, Anguirus IV, Varan II, and Baragon II (the roman numerals indicate that multiple individuals of a specific kaiju have appeared). Humanity defeated most of the kaiju seen in the opening montage of the film, except for Rodan I and Anguirus I, which were both killed by Hedorah.
I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would like it. Not a huge fan of anime(there are a few exceptions: DBZ, Akira, Vampire Hunter D, FLCL) but I really enjoyed this movie. My biggest complaint is that the servum looked so stiff. They could have been a great part of the film but(imo) they really brought it down. It was a cool idea, but porrly executed.
You bet I did. I thought that figure out in the forest might reveal itself sooner or later. I want to know what the Earth natives have in relation to the Godzilla ecosystem? if any at all?
i enjoyed it - watched it 2x already. It is not great, but a good start and I am interested to see where it goes. My only disappointments were godzilla was a bit static and when they give Godzilla's weight as 100,000 tons.
I don't want to spoil anything, but it did answer some questions I had from the trailers (and made some more - which is good for a trilogy).
I did. I'm curious to see what the natives of Earth in that time will add to the story and how they survived.
I wonder if anyone here stuck around for the end credits.
All done with both. Felt conflicted with some questions and answers, but other than that, it was good. There needs to be more of these more often.
riggzamortis86,
Many of your questions are actually in the movie, I think you just need to rewatch it to catch it all. Admittedly, more detail to the backstory was explained in supplementary material and the Godzilla: Monster Apocalypse prequel novel. There was a timeline that was released from a "Top Secret Folder" Promo in early 2017. The timeline was poorly translated into English, but you can get the jist of it here: https://www.kaijubattle.net/godzillatoho/inside-the-godzilla-monster-planet-top-secret-folder-promo
The short answer is humanity defeated some of the monsters, but Godzilla killed off the remaining monsters. Haruo vaguely alludes to this during the opening montage. He says, "And then, in the end, our worst nightmare appeared. Godzilla. Human or monster, it burned everything in sight."
The opening montage also explained that MechaGodzilla was made by the Bilusaludo for mankind to use against Godzilla. The connection is important because they mention their planet was the "third planet" in a system that was "swallowed by an accursed black hole." Just like the aliens that built the Showa MechaGodzilla.
There are currently no stats for the Bilusaludo's MechaGodzilla, so we don't know its height. Although it was built to fight Godzilla at 50 meters since mankind had no idea they would eventually face Godzilla at 300 meters, 20,000 years later.
^i had questions with all the other kaiju attacks prior to the arrival of Godzilla. Where did they go? Did Godzilla defeat them or did humanity find a way of combating the other monsters?
i have so many more questions. So Mechagodzilla is a man made mecha? Is it the size of the 50 meter Godzilla or is it the size of the current Godzilla?
^I would start with sub. A lot of famous Japanese voice actors from other anime were in this movie. Though, it's really your choice. You should choose whatever you think will make it more enjoyable. And watch through the credits ;)
I enjoyed it. I thought that it was a good first attempt at a Godzilla anime. When the Planet of the Monsters trilogy is over, I hope to see more Godzilla anime. Though, for an anime called Planet of the Monsters, I expected seeing more Kaiju throughout the film. If only Godzilla Monster Apocalypse (the prequel novel) was translated and brought to America. Other than that, I thought it was very good. I can't wait for the manga and for the sequels.
I found it a long time ago... Can't recall exactly, but I do know that Toho made all three of those statues to promote the films they're from.
A fun little survey for the fans! Do you mind if I ask where you got that cover photo for the article?
I’ll be watching it this weekend, but from what I’ve seen and read it looks like a good movie.
(Would you guys recommend the subtitles or dubbed version?)
I found enjoyable. I don't think a proper opinion of it can be made until the 2nd/3rd film is released. I;m excited to see where it goes from here.
Right. I’m trying to get everyone’s reaction and opinion. I have a lot of more questions than opinions on this movie.
It's about time!
I added my review.
MinecraftDinoKaiju,
Try this: http://www.godzilla-movies.com/topic/47344
Seems to be a front page issue.
^Not sure. I've been noticing this more and more on the site. I'll let Chris know so he can look in to it.
Also, number of reviews for each movie and their current scores have been updated.
Thanks, but I have something else to talk about: Why doesn't the link for this work (Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters now open to Review in the Movie Database)? I don't know if it works for anyone else, but it doesn't work for me.
MinecraftDinoKaiju,
Luckily you can review them all right here. Just click on whichever movie you want to review in the list and give it a go:
The Entire Godzilla Series Now Available to Review in Scified's Database
Yeah, we definitely do need more reviews, along with more topics to talk about.
They said the same thing about 1) the Greek gods in IDW's Godzilla:Rage Across Time Issue 2 but Godzilla killed all of them except Zeus, then Godzilla killed him; and 2) Godzilla himself, but if that was the case why would Godzilla be in hell (IDW's Godzilla in Hell) unless he died; not to mentioned 3) that he has died at least 4-5 times in the franchise. Case in point, Godzilla is very durable, but he is neither indestructable nor immortal. Who agrees with me?
I'm going to leave this open so we can all have a general discussion about the film, but please remember to consolidate reviews in the database here: Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters.
(We need more Godzilla reviews anyway.)
Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is now open for user reviews! Let us know what you thought of the new film there. Please remember reviews need to be as long as a paragraph at minimum. One or two sentence reviews will be deleted. Enjoy!
I just watched G:MP on NETFLIX this morning. Watching it even with all the info I exposed myself to about the film I was still surprised. If you haven’t watched the movie yet then go now and see it! It won’t take up much of your time. It’s only an hour and 20 sum odd minutes long. Too quick for me.
This film explores more of the time after the monster wars. We see that humanity has dwindled down to about 4000 humans living among alien humanoids that have a strong religious faith. I found myself fascinated to watch the survivors try and stay sane and stable. Seeing that those who first survived the earth extraction ended up committing suicide or dying from desease.
I didn’t mind the movie focusing on these aspects as it reveals to us without going to far in depth about the reason for the survivors going back to earth. It moves pretty quick.
I didn’t like the way the Servum moved or the way they animated them. They didn’t look real or lifelike. They are cool and everything but I thought they didn’t do the movie any favors.
Ok, what everyone speculated about multiple Godzilla’s is true! For the first time we see 2 different ADULT GODZILLAS for the first time. Granted not together in the same scene or are they even close to the same size or age but none the less we see 2 Godzilla’s. While watching the film I remember the articles I read about this Godzilla’s size. So once we see the first Godzilla we are all’s wondering “so why is he so small? Why haven’t we seen any of his new abilities?”
I see why the deception throughout the film. After the defeat of the smaller Godzilla, the survivors speculate the possibility of another Godzilla. Then the earth shakes and this massive Older Godzilla emerges and reveal his size and new abilities! Thus thwarting the survivors and proving once again that Godzilla is a destroyer of worlds. He is in charge.
Then it ends. All I can say is watch the movie all the way through! It leaves a lot of questions more than answers about the movie.
Have you seen Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare? It's just a play on a scene from the movie where Freddy explains he's immortal and can't die.
Yeah, sorry about that second question. Didn't see the date that it was posted on.
MinecraftDinoKaiju,
After 3.5 years? Doubt it.
^
Where was this going? Also, is this going to be changed/updated?
As far as Pacific Rim goes, I really loved the designs of the monsters, and I have to agree with y'all that Knifehead was my favorite, but I also loved Trespasser's design.
I'm all for original monsters in the Monsterverse, as long as they're memorable. I'd just love to see what old classics like Anguirus and Manda would look with Hollywood special effects.
Yea, we should make a separate topic about what if Disney bought Goji.
