awesome interview. Its rare to hear from over dubbing voice actors. Very interesting. Love it
I admired the effort put into it. If there was another kickstarter campaign, I would've contributed. A fun little footnote in the series. Plus the footage they did put out before they agreed to take it down for Toho was actually pretty impressive all things considered.
Am I the only one not sad about this thing's demise?
Toho's lawyers caught wind of it. They will allow them to make the film, but under some very strict conditions. It can't be feature length which was their original intent, only 50 min. The budget can't exceed $50,000, which was the bare minimum they needed to make the film. It can't be released in any way other than a secure website that only backers would get, but they can't crowdfund either, which doesn't make sense. The creators of this project are trying to work how to possibly make it with the restrictions, possibly making the film without Godzilla at all and making new monsters. Here's the Facebook update for that:https://www.facebook.com/GodzillaHeritage/posts/1013792742084538
Nice interview. Don't think I could have done better myself. Well done, G. H. (Gman).
Is this going to be updated? It's been a whole year already.
^
See? This guy understands.
I just want to see it in motion. I wonder due to Godzilla's new revealed size, will they include multiple MG's or do they think 1 will do the trick? I would love to see multiple MG's running around and unleashing hell on Godzilla.
^That's what I was thinking. Otherwise their be no reason for MechaGodzilla to have "tusks." Either way, I can't wait to see what it does. While I'm not thrilled with the head I will admit that the overall design of this iteration is pretty cool.
The head's understandable, given the Bilusaludo's species quirks. They don't design things without purpose due to their lack of tangible culture beyond utility, as shown in the backstory for the film trilogy.
The strange offshoots may be for channeling weapons, or some other such thing.
In Monster Planet Mechagodzilla didn’t look too bad. The head is the only bad part of the design imo.
^Yes, that's how it's supposed to look.
Is MechaGodzilla's head backwards or is that what he is supposed to look like? Also, who thinks that we need to see it in motion before we judge its design?
Sweet. Though, I'm not sure how I feel about the new MechaGodzilla design. It's mostly the head that's bugging me.
Good to here. I've been wondering when some info would be released since May isn't that far away.
^There likely will be.
I'll be coming back if there is any news on what Criterion on any more information if they will release any home video's.
Other than that I wouldn't worry about it to much and they will probably redistribute it in a few months or a year.
Huh no wonder why I have been seeing an inflation on a lot of showa godzilla movies except a few.
Nice video. Thanks for posting.
I know Classic Media simply came into the rights to those films when they acquired UPA's library, but I think they did renew the license to them directly with Toho before they released the wave of DVDs in 2006. I guess in that case they must have had a deal with Toho that would eventually expire. I guess we'll find out for sure if they sub-licensed or simply acquired the films depending on whether the Criterion releases for those select films credit DreamWorks Classics or not.
^I've been wondering about that as well. I've never seen that Classic Media owns them in perpetuity, but I recall Keith Aiken giving us a time table to when Sony and Classic Media's rights expire years back. I've been scouring the Monster Zero forums to find where he had given said list, but can't seem to locate it. I'm pretty sure Classic Media had an expiration date to their license, but my fuzzy memory can't recall when.
^ I'm still not sure if Janus has acquired them or simply sub-licensed them from DreamWorks Classics like they did for their Godzilla (1954) release a while back. I remember reading in a couple of places that Classic Media supposedly acquired permanent ownership of all the kaiju films they released on DVD.
Best Buy has a listing for a new release of Godzilla '14 in March and there were rumors it might be the 4K release, but they've since taken it down.
That's the closest to any "word" we've gotten.
On another subject, this entire list needs to be heavily overhauled, now that Dreamworks Animation (Classic Media) seems to have given up their rights to Janus Films/Criterion.
For anyone that is still curious, here is the video I helped to write the script for, which covers in depth every monster attack that occurred in the timeline of the anime film: Anime GODZILLA Timeline (GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters)
Is there any word on a 4k release of Godzilla 2014?
This will close on Feb. 4th! Still need more guys! If you haven't taken both surveys yet, go for it.
I am really curious to see how the effects are portrayed as well. Skull Island left me feeling less than impressed by its CGI. Godzilla 2014 had better visual effects imo by comparison.
^I too am excited to see the practical effects for an American Godzilla movie. Dougherty has a great respect for effects and uses them in a way that outclasses CGI.
Too hear that the monsters are at a free for all sounds great, it will give us more monster action that G14 seemed to forget to include.
cant wait!
Probably throw away monsters.
Can not wait to see the special effects on this one
"Don't take my word on this, but there isn't any confirmation on more TOHO monsters in the film if that is what you are asking?"
Not really (but it could), just any MUTO/Kaiju (original or not) showing up in Godzilla 2 in general
[Sorry did not mean to do the double response. Some sort of glitch must have occurred. Man that is incredibly annoying.]
Don't take my word on this, but there isn't any confirmation on more TOHO monsters in the film if that is what you are asking?
Maybe to elaborate on what Dougherty might be trying to say is that KOTM might have more MUTO(Legendary Designed) monsters. Not TOHO licensed kaiju like Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah.
I bet Dougherty will have more than just the big 4 in his movie. All of his films have a colorful tapestry of monsters and scary things. If you look at Trick R Treat, there is all kinds of ghosts and ghouls all over the film. From Zombie children to werewolves, and serial killers to little Sam. That film has soo much going on but all gets nicely summed up in a great finale.
Same goes with Krampus, the Krampus actually has very little screen time in the film. You don't see Krampus until the end and it pays off. You don't seem to mind watching the other "minions" steal the show. From mean spirited Gingerbread Men to evil misfit toys attacking the group, to "undersnow" creatures to the elfs and evil looking rams helming the sleigh right down to Krampus himself, Dougherty knows how to display soo many fun and interesting characters on screen you feel like your on some kind of amusement park ride that you wish would never end!
So it wouldn't surprise me to see more than just the BIG 4 in KOTM. I hope Dougherty pushes more MUTO in there with different designs and abilities that keep KOTM fresh and fun the whole way through. Pacific Rim has its del Toro, now Godzilla has Dougherty. This sequel is going to out do G14. you can bet on it
^maybe kong does a shadow puppet of a bunny, that would freak me out! joking aside, that would pretty much sum up what I would come to expect at the end of KOTM.
G KOM- credits roll.. then.. a shot of skull island... then a huge silhouette of KK.. followed by a roar... fade out.
wonderful actor.. he will be missed.. but never forgotten.
^
Ghidorah probably humiliates them first before fighting Goji.
Have mecha-Godzilla be alien.
That would give MG back his alien roots. the Kiryu idea is great as well. Still must be alien.
I would never give way to any pacific rim movies however. Pacific Rim is paving the way for giant monsters right now. Unless KOTM is the best monster movie since Shin then move over PR, but until I see the new PR and if its good. then keep em coming. Don't put it on the back burner
There is plenty of room for MechaG and PR.
After seeing the Pacific Rim's latest trailer.. GKOM.. better step up it's game.. if it wants to be No#1 in the box office. At least we know there is a final battle between 2 monsters.. which makes me wonder.. where is Mothra and Rodan gonna be in the last fight? were they killed by Ghidorah.. or are they helping Godzilla.. or.. are they licking their wounds on the sidelines as G and K ghid.. duke it out?
One thing I'm certain of.. this movie is going to be off the chain with destruction. I want to see Godzilla tear it up in this one.
