I actually like that idea, of the new Godzilla being a younger one.
I could probably accept this if the jaws were to be a little bit thicker but the artwork alone, no way
I'm wondering if they will introduce a different Godzilla for this KOM flick. If there will be a redesign to G.. then it would make sense. After all.. we're talking about a species... and not about one sole survivor from millions of years ago. 2014 G could have been just an introduction to the G species. Perhaps that could work in the monsterverse. An offspring of the first to take the place of an older battle worn G. It could be possible. We just don't know for sure. But the cave renderings.. did reveal two distinct Godzillas.. and perhaps the G in 2014 was one of many. I guess we'll have to wait and see. In my opinion.

Not going to lie, I like Godzilla more, but in this universe based on the 2 movies so far I'm all for Kong. Hopefully G:KOTM changes that.

I'd absolutely, 100% love it if that was a hint that Godzilla flies in the same manner in the next movie. It'd be hilarious to watch how pissy and huffy the "$Er!OU$ F/-nZ" get.

Bump for an old thread for you dk. After recently re-watching a few of both franchises I'll go on record as rooting for Kong.
For no profound real reason, they are both survivors, I respect that.
Kong to me seems to represent The Last Man Standing. Defiantly holding the line. Courageous Disobedience I believe is the term.

If I have to start this out I don't think anyone can go wrong with Kenji Saraha. Not a bad person to have to look at for around an hour. Plus, pretty consistent good hair.

The Godzilla series has always been an anthology of largely unrelated stories. So the MonsterVerse adopting that tactic, but staying within the same continuity is nothing new.

Wow. Didn't expect this many responses so far. Anyway, a new chapter is up. Introduce a couple new features to this little continuity.
I can trust Mike Dougherty, I'm more worried about Adam Wingard, not because of the Death Note movie, is just that I don't think he's the right guy to do the job.
Seeing how few of the original cast from the 2014 Godzilla film is returning, I strongly agree with you that Godzilla KOTM would be virtually it's own story.
On another note, how much of the monsterverse would an "anthology" of sorts, with each installment it's own storyline?

I cannot praise Dougherty enough on his other films. They are both great films. I hope KOTM is and will be a great monster movie.
In a way despite my distaste for 2014, Im sure the next 2 films will persuade me to want to keep the Legendary Godzilla franchise going. The Monsterverse has all the elements there to be a great movie franchise.
That is why I am expecting great things here from Legendary. They have 2 films to show that they can present to not just a new audience that they have the chops to bring forth a fantastic Godzilla film, but to the hard core fans like all of us.
In some ways, the Monsterverse has progressed like the DCEU right now. However, it's been done RIGHT.
Godzilla (2014) was like Man of Steel, and Kong: Skull Island like Batman V. Superman. However, the jump has been smoother and much more positively received.
With filming reportedly taking place in a few months for the fourth film, shortly after the third's filming has begun to wrap up, things are looking up. The productions are close together, which means that the teams can collaborate more effectively. Hopefully, anyways.

Kong: Skull Island is the start of the MonsterVerse. There was no plan to build a cinematic universe when Godzilla '14 was in production. Legendary is retroactively making it part of the MonsterVerse for obvious reasons.
I'm honestly hoping it's stylistically different, 2014 was just a bit to real. This is a movie about creatures that are hundreds of feet tall fighting each other. Why should it be hyper realistic? Also in all honesty I feel that Kong Skull Island was the start to the Monsterverse. I've got a feeling that KOTM will have a style like it instead of the 2014 movie.
I feel conflicted with this, and I am pretty sure a lot of other people are too. Can we please just get back to the main topic?

I'm expecting the sequel to be something of a soft reboot in a stylistic sense. I mean, its been five years. At this point Legendary needs to play it off like a fresh, start-from-scratch entry instead of building on what audiences have already forgotten. There's just no momentum.
And to clarify, I'm not saying this isn't or won't be a sequel--But I imagine the first movie will be deemed fairly irrelevant to the events in the new film beyond the basic establishment of Monarch and Godzilla himself. Tonally, stylistically and visually I expect it to be a very different movie from 2014--Which only makes sense.
I am just trying to say if the next 2 installments Legendary is putting out is the same (or hopefully worse than) as 2014, rather than having the option of having more Godzilla movies like Shin put on the back burner in order to wait for movies that lack luster, then I think this would all be a waste of all of our time as fans.
2014 had everything to be a great American made monster movie but somehow failed to deliver on everything that makes a great monster flick in the first place and make something like Godzilla really great again after so many disappointments back in the early millennium. How can you make a movie starring such an iconic monster lack so much of what makes it great to begin with? It was all there and somehow neglected to show it all.
Shin was amazing in so many ways and it featured one monster. Now if I had to choose between what movie should be made at one time I wouldn't choose the one that disappointed me in sacrifice of one that delivered. I'm hoping the next 2 legendary entries don't do what its predecessor did and make a movie that fails to deliver the whole order. I hope legendary brings us great monster movies plain and simple, they have everything to do that.
If some one gives you all the perfect ingredients and make them a great burger, you better not deliver a crappy taco instead. That is what I got with 2014, an unwanted crappy taco instead of a meaty cheeseburger. With too much cheese. I love tacos, when they are made right, just not when I was hungry for and expected something I thought I ordered. To put in terms that maybe I can explain why mistrust in Legendary at the moment.
They have Dougherty heading KTOM, I have high hope for this one. I just hope they get the order right.

I mean Godzilla 2014 wasn't all that disappointing. Sure, it could've been better, but I don't think Legendary has 2 more "chances" to make a Godzilla movie. I think they already made a fine Godzilla movie. If anything, these next two movies are about showing that the United States holds more interest in Godzilla than just one movie.
Plus isn't the point of Toho deciding to co-produce films in the future to get around the issue we have now? No more limited licensing agreements like we have with Godzilla vs. Kong?
Hard to believe a few years ago this was just fan hopes and now it's happening.

I hope so, otherwise it is just another American Godzilla saga down the drain (not that the 1998 film was good, it is still bad, but the series was either good or ok).

ok, I see(Should have read Gman's the post twice), hopefully, Legendary knows what the heck they are doing.
^That's the whole point Gman is trying to say. Right now there isn't any deal to renew the rights with TOHO. GvK must be ready to show by 2020 or there isn't a movie at all. This may be it! Legendary might only have these 3 films then its done.
I hope these films do so well that Toho comes to its senses and let Legendary continue the monsterverse. But I would allow Toho to make more live action Godzilla movies as well. I think Shin G is way better film than 2014. More movies like Shin would be great!
I just hope GKOTM and GVK make us proud. Because this is it at the moment! Legendary has 2 more shots to make a slam dunk. If they cant give us a good Godzilla movie out of the 2, then maybe its time for Toho to take back the reigns.
