TheGMan123Godzilla Minus Zero NewsGodzilla: City on the Edge of Battle Trailer Finally Released!

Man..... the visual spectacle alone looks like it'll make the film worth it.

Also, that last shot looks like Godzilla Earth got blasted with some super mega weapon that vaporized everything EXCEPT him, and even he's still lit up like molten metal.

To be honest I figured once people started legitimately raising concerns about a trailer not being up a month from release Toho would release one. It seems that they waited until all of post-production on the movie was completed to release the first trailer, at least based on one of Hiroyuki Seshita's tweets.

Man it's weird how literally the day after I make this post, the trailer comes out.

^There’ll definitely be one more story left. Already have an idea for it. Not sure where I’ll take it after that, if it goes anywhere else at all.

It has been a month since this was discussed. Has anything come up since, or has this idea been scrapped (cancelled)?

@Sci-Fi King25 Nice to know, but I actually meant that I was wondering if there was going to be a sequel (or sequels) to Godzilla: Uprising. (Like the IDW Godzilla comics main storyline ["Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters"-"Godzilla"-"Godzilla: Rulers of Earth"].). Personally, I'd call it (them if there are more) "Godzilla: Dominance" and "Godzilla: Downfall".

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the third film is set directly for a worldwide Netflix release. I would imagine that recording has begun and that the American company responsible for the dub would have the second films script already. We could see these next two movies released on a quicker timetable than Planet of the Monsters.

The first film wasn't in a lot of theaters and Toho seemed perfectly happy with Netflix making the bulk of its money. I imagine the second and third will be even more low profile--Maybe even less theaters. (Which seemed like a late decision anyway.)

Yeah that's my thinking. As we got closer to the release of Planet of the Monsters, we had tons of footage to watch, this time it's nothing. I do honestly believe it's Toho cutting their loses with the theatrical releases and pushing the Netflix angle since they already got their money for that.

I'm not saying they shouldn't release a trailer, I was just suggesting a possible reason why they haven't yet. I still would have expected a trailer by now.

Shouldn't they at least release a trailer tho? That cant be all that tasking? Just release the trailer on youtube then BANG, you have some advertising at least.

That's my 2 cents

I think it's a combination of the low priority of the theatrical release (Toho clearly planned to make its profit from the Netflix deal), and the fact that all three films were made close together and as such the first film and surrounding hype were supposed to already draw in the audience for the sequels. People have known about the second film since the first one came out, so Toho is not prioritizing getting the word out as much it seems.

@KaijuWorld I forgot to mention something: love the way Baragon looks in that picture along with Gorosaurus. Gorosaurus' round head could be improved on a little bit (refer back to images), but other than that, still looks good.

I am continuing this conversation on this forum, so we don't have to say the same thing twice.

I have made a solution to that problem. I have now put a link to all my previous forums from the "how to include" series in each of the current forums. I have made it in a way that they are only links to the previous forums and not the forums that came after. that's why Mechagodzilla's forum doesn't have any links and why Gigan's forum doesn't have a link to king caesar. this makes it a lot easier for me, because otherwise whenever I posted a new forum, I would have to add the link from the forum to all the previous forums.

I would love to see King Caesar in the monsterverse. Not expecting it though, but I do agree with the Black Panther comparison, if you can get enough word out about your franchise you can bring in some of the more obscure characters and make great stories around them.

Funny how we're talking about this and the fan activity on the website currently (currently=on the day I made this comment, for anyone who is new) mostly isn't even about this forum. Btw, why haven't you left a comment on the other forum that is currently (again, currently=on the day I made this comment, for anyone who is new) the main topic of the fan activity?

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumDirector Takao Okawara: A Career Retrospective

riggzamortis86,
I think the point is that the 1970s had a negative impact on future films, but by the 1990s Toho was actually on the rise again. (In fact economic prosperity is one of the main themes of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.)

I think the big takeaway here is that Okawara was a young, inexperienced director that wasn't entirely sure of what to do with big budget special effects films. He improved, certainly, but it may have not been his genre.

One thing that sticks out is that I've always been of the mind that Godzilla vs. Destoroyah is the most cinematic of his Heisei films. Sure, it's plagued with other issues, but at least he chose to shoot the film with specific lighting and angles that better fit a big budget Japanese production.(The red, orange and brown colors throughout the film give it a consistent look, inspired for example.) Meanwhile, Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II, which in recent years has become one of the most boring Godzilla films for me, is just bland to look at. Colorless and uninteresting throughout.

The other thing that hits me is his relationship with Kawakita. Although I'm not surprised by it, I had only heard stories about Kawakita and Omori's conflict. It has made me more curious about Kawakita's career. I have to wonder if he was just generally hostile toward anyone giving him notes/direction. (Was it ego? Supposed drinking? Insecurity over Gunhed & Godzilla vs Biollante's performance? Was he just hard to work with and that's that?)

Not to slam Kawakita's name, but there's a lot about the untold background of his career that begs for a hard look. The red flags throughout the  Heisei Godzilla series raise a lot of curiosity from me.

Again, it's because I have come across forums like this where it seemed like a long time since the last time anyone replied to them. Just saying that it feels unsettling that a good forum is just left to waste for a long time on this website.

I don’t think so. I think it is pretty good as it is right now. I will be answering any questions that are asked on this forum though. depends on what you mean with “improve”. Why are you asking?

@KaijuWorld, now Im not an expert on licensing for Toho monsters or anything, but I can tell you what I learned about what Legendary can and cant do with TOHO trademark characters in terms of Legendary's Monsterverse.

"junior could be a cool inclusion if Godzilla ever dies."

Godzilla can not die in the Monsterverse, he can be defeated but not killed(I think Toho learned there lesson from 98). So Godzilla Jr or any other son of Godzilla used in this Monsterverse can not take over in that way.

"if Godzilla junior grows up into an adult Godzilla, do the rights of the character change to regular Godzilla or does it stay as Godzilla junior"

In the Monsterverse, Toho wont let them have more than one Godzilla. I don't know if that means babies or younger versions of Godzilla(once again maybe learning there lesson from 98) .  So Godzilla Jr or any other form of Godzilla adolescence will stay an adolescence. There cannot be more than one Godzilla. So no 2 full grown Godzilla's at the same time.

"if Mechagodzilla 1, 2 and 3 are trademarked as the same character, why isn't that the same for minilla, baby/little Godzilla and Godzilla junior?"

That is a great question and I don't know why Toho keeps all Mechagodzillas under the same trademark all in the same package other than having the same name. I guess Minilla stays the same throught the showa series except for the dream sequences in All Monsters Attack, and also because his name is Minilla. But its the same character. Baby Godzilla, Little Godzilla, and Godzilla Jr all are different in the Heisei series. The character is technically the same baby from GVMG2 but he grows into different monsters all throughout the series. So the design of the character changes and is named differently in each film due to its size. So while Mechagodzilla is still called Mechagodzilla in 1974, 75, 92 and in 02 and 03 (aside of Kiryu), maybe that's why they keep it all in the same trademark. But like i said before, Im far from an expert on these things. Im sure others on this forum are more informed than I am on this matter. What Im saying here can be disproven or changed. Im just trying to bring what Im aware of on this subject to light.
