Yeah I agree, as interesting as these concepts are, they would make for a terribly dry character on film. Looks like some prehistoric mammal, an over-sized cow if anything haha. Gonna upvote regardless though since this is rather interesting.
I was thinking for a sec there that WB were gonna shock us and move the release date back up. But this just means they have more time to market the film, which I'm extremely excited for. Film marketing has been rather lazy over the last 4-5 years. G2014 had a great campaign.
I can't wait. Maybe they'll start revealing the designs for Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah soon.
Well, that gives them plenty of time to gauge further audience reactions, scope out the release schedule for other films, and make changes if necessary.
@YukisSpecial Dude, I was thinking the same thing! I'm hyped, but also kinda mad that they're finished with it 6 whole months before the release date
Ah, good. Hey Warners, how about putting it back in March where it was in the first place so it can grab that sweet pre-summer box office like Kong did? We'll be appreciate, I'll see it 4 times guaranteed if you'll throw us a bone ;)
Also I contacted criterion about the godzilla releases and this is what they had to say:
Hello there,
Thanks for writing. We hope to release theseGodzilla titles on disc at some point but they aren’t yet on the schedule. The best way to stay up-to-date on our future release plans is to check our "Coming Soon" section and e-newsletter. You can find the newsletter sign up on the bottom of any page on the site (www.criterion.com).
Please stay tuned!

Have you ever thought about doing a list of every Godzilla DVD release on region 1?
interesting
I can't wait for this. Godzilla and Kong, the two most powerful monsters. Finally, they will fight again in the rematch we've all been waiting for. And with the potential of other monsters thrown into the mix, we may get even more spectacular battles we didn't even think of. Let them fight!
Ah, well I kinda figured that The Big G wouldn't wander haphazardly onto Skull Island and start a turf war, makes sense that the factor of human intervention would be at least mostly responsible for them starting a duke out.
Now how hard to I have to petition Warners to have both a tribute character to Mr. Tako AND finally get Takarada San a proper UNCUT cameo in this thing?
Sounds like there are going to be "lots of Monsters" roaming around even after King of the Monsters ;)
I think the most important detail is the mention of a Human conspiracy that threatens things.
Vague but I guess you can't give away too much of the plot. Oh right, they're going to fight. Got it.
Hopefully, notes are taken based on how people liked Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island.
Adam Wingard better not fuck this up like he did Death Note.
interesting
I sure am glad Hollywood writers say "fuck all that" because that looks and sounds as uninteresting as all hell.
These are cinematic beasts, not scientifically accurate animals. Let monsters be monsters.
Yonggary2018,
November or December--And November's not even over yet...
Thank you, Chris! I appreciate the assist. I'll just keep all the updated art going through here so I don't bork that up again.
I doubt scaling up a gorilla to King Kong's size would turn it into what Witton created. We already have examples of apes reaching large sizes but maintaining their general structure--like Gigantopithecus. This is as Gojira said above me more akin to a Megatherium than a massive gorilla. I don't like this design at all.
Looks like one of those giant ground sloths from the ice age.
Brilliant fan art thanks for sharing! I'll move this topic to the fan art section for you. :)
So hope the new trailer comes out soon but...i thought it said this month was when a new trailer would be released.
Nice! Game of Thrones was great til they messed over my Dragon Vaserian. I want to see Emilia Clarke as Godzilla's avatar. Would love to see the Mother of Dragons working for the original alpha Dragon King!
Thank you for watching! My next suit will be based on the Millennium Godzilla.
As Tarzan... this guy was great. I hope he brings that presence to KK vs G.
I'm only going to say this once... I will watch it... but to me it still looks utterly awful.
Okay, now your arguments don't even make sense anymore.
First of all, "kong is a monkey". no, he is an ape and what does that even have to do with anything. Mothra is a giant moth and she has beaten Godzilla in their first outing. Also, Kong is still growing and will probably be around 100m+ when he arrives in 2020.
And don't reply with something like "but that movie is part of another timeline", because you don't seem care anyway. you said Godzilla had already beaten Destoroyah, Mechagodzilla, etc. even though those movies don't take place in the Monsterverse and same goes with Kong and him being shot down on the empire state building. These events didn't take place in the new timeline.
"which only explains your level of intelligence". Really, that is your argument. That says nothing about our intelligence, that only says something about how unaccepting you are about our opinions. Why even create a topic on your opinion if you are not willing to listen and respect other people's opinions.
And then ending with saying that America has no idea on how to make a kaiju movie is just wrong. Many people (including me) loved the 2014 movie and even got introduced to the kaiju genre because of it. King of the monsters 2019 seems to be even better than 2014 so I think with the right people it doesn't matter what country makes a kaiju movie.
Also, just to top it all of, why are you presuming it will be bad when we know little to nothing about this movie. Anything could happen in a MOVIE. as many people have said already this is a fight between fictional monsters and anything can happen. Kong could even get his lighting powers back. You just have to wait till 2020 for the result.
I want The King of the Monsters's post engraved on my tombstone.
I'm always amazed by the hardcore Godzilla fanboy manchildren who come out of the woodwork to whine and complain about Godzilla fighting Kong in any capacity because they believe Kong can never compare to the strength of their all-powerful infallible lord. They still aren't over the movie from over 50 years ago and so can't accept the fact that Godzilla is being pitted against Kong again.
They're fictional characters, fictional characters who could never even remotely exist in the real world. The first film pitting them against each other was a huge hit, and people have been clamoring for them to fight ever since. Get over it. Just because you're insecure that your favorite fictional character isn't completely invincible because somehow the merit of the character is related to how powerful they are doesn't mean everyone else is. No one cares if Godzilla is supposedly more powerful than Kong, they just want to see them fight. The filmmakers are aware of this, and will undoubtedly make a film that justifies how Kong can hold his own against and possibly overcome Godzilla, just as they did in 1962.
I find it very amusing how outraged this vocal minority of fans are at the mere idea of Godzilla fighting Kong. And it's funny how all of them parrot the same barely intelligible "Godziller iz mor strong then stupid monky who die from planes. Godziller is invincible and haz atomic breath." Give me a break.
I mean, we're arguing about the plausibility of fictional characters stacking up against one another. I get that some fans have fun with fantasy battles and all, but questioning the viability of something like this is silly when it all comes down to how they're written in the screenplay.
They're not real. They can literally do anything the screenwriter/director dictates. Get over it people.
This is the most eye rolling thread in awhile.
How are Kong and Godzilla evenly matched???? First of all, they have to always change Kongs scale...no biggie...they always do that with Godzilla. Godzilla defeated Destroyah, Mecha Godzilla, Hedora, Biollante, King Ghidorah, Space Godzilla, Orga, ....blah blah blah blah blah.. Kong's a MONKEY!
He got killed on the Empire State Building by airplanes with machine guns!...It was ridiculous that Kong held his own in 1962...if this new movie doesn't correct that glaring error, it will suck...but we all already know what is going to happen. Tell me I'm wrong....I hope I am...tell me I'm ignorant...which only explains your level of intelligence.... we will all find out when the movie comes out. American movie makers have shown twice that they do not understand how to make a Kaiju film and most of all, the filmakers do not understand Godzilla or how to make a proper Godzilla film.
^If there was a quote option, it's the only reply we'd need.
"A mutated collection of sea-life"
Do people STILL believe that? I thought it had been nipped in the bud by now.
In almost all cases I wouldn't call Godzilla a dinosaur--Just some previously unclassified prehistoric creature.
The Showa Godzilla was said to be an evolutionary cross between land-going (dinosaurs) and sea-going prehistoric creatures. The Millennium Godzillas seem to have a similar origin based on their continuity.
The only one I'd say is truly a "dinosaur" is the Heisei Godzilla since he was a mutated from one.
