MagillaGGodzilla ForumHottest female actress in classic Godzilla movies?

Having just binged out on the 1960s movies which I hadn’t watched in over 30 years: I agree Komi Mizuno, definitely Mie Hama, and Akko Wakabayashi who struck me as so pretty even as a preteen watching for the monster fight action.

Continuing the discussion from the "Kong Has A BEARD" discussion, the series go Heisei, Reiwa, Showa, Monsterverse, then Millenium. Haven't seen TOO many of the movies, though. That applies to all the series in general... I try to watch a new one every now and again, but time constraints you know...

Heisei because that's how I got into the series as a kid and is super nostalgic for me, as well as overall being really good in my opinion. I haven't watched a Heisei movie besides Godzilla V.S. Destoroyah since I was a kid. I think it was REALLY overhyped, but was still really good. Destoroyah never beat Godzilla, which really confused me because I kept hearing that he actually beat Burning Godzilla until the military intervened... but he was actually trying to escape and the military shot him down. I agree with Macumba that it was kinda a lame ending. It was Godzilla's last fight-he should have been the one to kill his child's fucking murderer! And Destoroyah and Godzilla didn't have too amazing a fight, but it was still pretty good. Godzilla's death though... it was really sad. "It's enough to make a grown man cry." ... I know that meme is dead, but it's still funny to me. Also, of course I didn't ACTUALLY cry... but if my sister hadn't been with me, I might have. I definitely would have when I was a kid. HEY, I'M PERFECTLY SECURE!!! I also think there should have been some movies with Godzilla Junior taking the place of Godzilla, which was wasted potential, but whatever... Heisei era's still my favorite.

Anyways, Reiwa because Shin Godzilla is one of my all time favorite stand alone Godzilla films, in the top ten at least. It has an incredibly unique Godzilla with incredibly unique abilities, stays true to the original idea behind the first Godzilla movie (for the most part), the political side was an interesting look into Japanese politics, for me at least, the score was great, and the fucking Tokyo scene. That was awesome. Though the acting wasn't so great, it wasn't too bad and I didn't expect much better. At first I didn't like the movie, but when I rewatched it and came to terms with Godzilla's new look... it was so much better for me.

Next is Showa because it contains the original masterpiece and it also has the second film, which is another one of my favorite Godzilla movies. The rest of the Showa series is still really good, besides sometimes being a little corny and... Revenge Of Godzilla... UGH...

Monsterverse is pretty good, it hasn't gotten too many movies yet, but has great visual effects and the stories aren't too bad and the acting is pretty good in KOTM and Skull Island. Though 2014 was kinda boring because of the lack of Godzilla, it still had a nice story, probably better in concept than KOTM's story.

Last is Millenium. I still LOVE the Millenium series, but even though Godzilla V.S. Megaguirus is one of the first Godzilla movies I ever saw... it takes last place. I've only seen that movie and Godzilla 2000, so I haven't seen the broad scope of this series. The main reason it's at bottom is because Godzilla 2000 was a HUGE disappointment for me, and was pretty boring. I had pretty high expectations, since it was the first of the Millenium movies. I was expecting Godzilla to return to being the city destroying asshole in the first movie until the very end to fight Orga, but no. He kinda just stood around for most of it... and got knocked over by a space rock that had a weird, internet-stalkerish obsession with him. Godzilla wasn't doing much more than standing around until the very end of the movie, the main villain was a stupid looking spaceship (at least have an original design!), and the reporter and father (the two main characters) were pretty uninteresting to me, at least not until the end of the film. The reporter in GMK was a much better character, in my opinion. The kid was pretty funny though, at least in my opinion. That might say more about my sense of humor then it does about her, though. Anyways, it still ended REALLY good. I really liked the fight between Orga and Godzilla, especially when he started to swallow whole Godzilla. I never heard about that part, so that was a shock to me! Then the humans actually got pretty interesting when the main human villain decided to die to Godzilla, and basically destroyed the building they were all standing on. I really liked Orga fight- onwards. THAT was what I expected of this movie. Godzilla V.S. Megaguirus was pretty good, from what I remembered. I haven't seen it since I watched it, and as I said it was one of the first Godzilla movies I ever saw... so it was quite awhile ago. It was interesting, Megaguirus was pretty interesting and I don't think get's enough love, from what I remember. Still not too amazing though. Was still a good movie.

Then we get to the... "Outer rim" ones, as if you will. The comics, the video games, "God"Zilla 1998 and... ugh... the anime.

The games are a mixed bag. Most of the ones of the 21st Century are pretty frickin awesome. I haven't ever actually owned Destroy all monsters or the rest for the Xbox and PS2... but I've seen gameplay and reviews and played some as a kid at a friend's house, and they seem/were fun. My friend didn't even know Godzilla is from a bunch of movies; he just bought them because they were fighting games with a bunch of giant monsters. I haven't seen him since I was in the 2nd grade, but still, to this day, he was one of the best friends I've ever had... Or the only friend I ever had... Godzilla 2015, the sole game I actually own, IS FUCKIN AMAZING, in my opinion. I don't have a PS4 so I've only played the "demo" PS3 version... and by god it's fucking fun. I can't even imagine how fun the PS4 version must be, where you can play as more than just Godzilla. I know a lot of people call it a "meh" game, and I can see why and partially agree... but when I pick it up again it's just OH MY GOD. I haven't played the mobile game, but I've heard it's not good. The NES and SNES... no. More a game of frustration than Godzilla.

The comics, the ones I've read (fair amount), are pretty good. My favorites are Godzilla: Kingdom Of Monsters, Godzilla Goes To Hell, and Godzilla Across Time (or whatever it's called; it's been a few years). They're pretty interesting things that we would probably never see on the big screen.

Godzilla 1998... this one I have a love-hate relationship with. I love it for the animated series, but the actual movie sucks. Well... if you treat Zilla as Godzilla. I mean I don't consider it a Godzilla movie... but I also do. I consider it a Godzilla in the same way people consider Ghidorah the three headed monster as a Godzilla movie. They stem from the Godzilla series and (kinda) contain Godzilla. However, I treat Godzilla 1998 as Zilla's movie, or as I call it, Zilla. If you treat Zilla separate from Godzilla throughout the movie (hard to do, but if you practice with the series with Zilla Junior (Really fucking awesome show), it gets easier), then it's actually not all that bad. Sure the plot is still only good in concept and the acting sucks... "That's a lot of fish"... but, it makes Zilla an incredibly interesting Kaiju that deserves something better, in my opinion. And she got it through Zilla Junior's show.

Lastly... the anime... I actually liked the first movie. I mean, the voice acting sucked at times and it dragged on and the aliens were weird and a lot more... but, at the time, I considered it worth it. The special effects were cool, the concept was cool, the wildlife was cool, and the Godzilla looked amazing... and the fight was awesome, like Shin Godzilla's final fight but a lot better and anime. And then when shit hit the fan because Godzilla Earth woke up... Dear God that was fucking awesome. I was actually excited for the second one... Can I say it was a let down nearly to the point of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, in my opinon? If you know me at all, you know I find that well of disappointment quite vast. I mean, Fallen Kingdom was still a good Dinosaur movie... but Godzilla Earth 2... no. It had some good concepts. Mechagodzilla city was pretty cool, also an alien race trying to merge with it... interesting in concept. But Godzilla doesn't appear much at all during the film... and he destroys Mechagodzilla City in two atomic breath blasts. Two... TWO!!!!! SERIOUSLY?!!! We couldn't have seen some defenses used on him or something? It couldn't have regenerated to fight him again, making him use tactics to quickly destroy it all at once? It couldn't reform into Mechagodzilla to fight him? That would have been so worth the weird *** aliens and the voice acting and the lack of Godzilla; at least make it worth it like Godzilla 2000 with a good ending. Nope. I mean, I understand it was low budget... but could they have not left out the unnecessary parts for a better ending? I mean, was the romance between Haruo and Yuko (or whatever her name was) very necessary since he did the same thing again with Miana the next movie? I mean, I don't take more trouble with that instead of the rest of the film... BUT THAT MONEY COULD HAVE BEEN SPENT ON AT LEAST ONE EXTRA ATOMIC BREATH FROM GODZILLA!!! Christ, there should be a drinking game where you count the unnecessary scenes in that movie and convert them into the corresponding amount of atomic breaths that could have been given to Godzilla, and then drink a shot for each one of those. It's probably possible to calculate how much money went into unnecessary scenes and then convert that into the money spent on each atomic breath scene... but I'm not going to do it and it'd be tough. The next verse is the same as the first. Ghidorah was a useless space noodle. He didn't even have gravity beams, for the most part. And the cult of aliens was kinda stupid, I was actually expecting more. And the whole way they brought Ghidorah was stupid. AND THEY FUCKING TEASED MOTHRA WHAT THE- Anyways, the movie sucked. The side characters were especially annoying in this one. Haruo was acting stupid; how did he not realize the alien was up to something? However, it has one redeeming quality-the ending. The ending was confusing for me at first, but pretty quickly realized "Well that was wei- OHHHHHHHH SHIIIIIIIIT!!!! That's actually a kinda meaningful ending... almost made it worth it." It ALMOST made it worth it, but then again, I might have just been glorifying the ending after the shit show I had just witnessed... but still, the ending was pretty good. The first movie is a good watch, but if you watch it you'll end up watching the next one... and maybe the one after that... so it's not worth it unless you're a trooper. Anime was THE WORST one in my opinion, mainly because of the potential and teasing. And the fact I thought it had an incest scene... but still, even after that clarification, not a good movie...

Jesus christ I went off on a tangent.

TL;DR: Godzilla series go Heisei, Reiwa, Showa, Monsterverse, then Millenium. Godzilla 1998 is not so bad if you block out the word "God", the show it spawned was awesome. Godzilla 2015 is my favorite game for the PS3. The comics are pretty good. Thought the anime was a shit show. Thought the anime had incest until a few months ago.

TL;DR of the TL;DR: Potatoes

I'm not sure... When people come after me it doesn't really bother me. I don't know them and see no reason to be offended by someone name calling me who doesn't know me. That's kind of why it's so comedic.

I suppose the general banning of people who can't follow the rules and do offend others is probably the least appealing part of being on the forum.

The best part was probably meeting Ben and Chris who actually remain good friends off of the site. I've since worked with both on some unique projects which has also given me platforms off-site, like appearing as a guest on Godzilla podcasts and speaking with some filmmakers and historians in the genre/fandom.

Be my guest. I don't mind old topics being dug up as long as they're still relevant.

I was recently asked on twitter if Wingard was much of a fan. While I don't really care how much of a fan he is (because clearly being a fan doesn't mean you'll make a good movie), I was reminded of this article I wrote 2 years ago.

At minimum it gives us an idea of where he might draw inspiration from--Whether it be tonally or visually. Since he deleted his twitter it's currently the only source we have to his opinion on the Godzilla series.

Godzilla... unless Legendary gives Kong electric powers like in the Showa movie, Godzilla. I really hope they don't do that... but like MDK said, the beard could bring untapped potential in the form of static electricity... XD

Yeah, I can agree with that. I think the beard is a great addition to Kong's character. It gives him an old Wiseman feel to him and it shows that he has grown over the years in both his size and experience.

Maybe it could be connected to his electric powers. Not sure they will go down that route though seeing as they already did that in the original. I think they will either not add any powers to Kong or they will give him a new ability to use against Godzilla.

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumWhat is Legendary Godzilla's top speed (on land) in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)?

That's my final answer.

I'm not very interested in the stats or fantasy battles going on here. You know who wins the fantasy battles? Whoever is writing them. The stats given by filmmakers, Toho source books, art books, etc are cool for reference at all, but probably won't always be consistent with what's onscreen or what's needed for the story.

Example: Toho gave two different official heights for Heisei King Ghidorah. Verdict? Oh, well. It doesn't really affect anything.

I just don't see the point in nailing down exact numbers for made up creatures, nor do I really care too much most of the time.

First of all, @Gmkgoji Did you mean to put that banner in your other forum?

Second, this forum looks like it got out of hand, so let me help with putting it back on track by saying that Kong's beard might have something to do with how he might get a power-up. (Ever heard of Static Electricity?)

Reply
MinecraftDinoKaijuGodzilla ForumWhat is Legendary Godzilla's top speed (on land) in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)?

Of course, I understand that is (unfortunately) true, but this isn't about that. This is about his speed in general, regardless of plot-convenience. (Just like how the impact of him crashing into Boston should've been bigger than what it was, but it wasn't because of the human protagonists.) So generally speaking, while this is true, this forum isn't about that.

So if that's your final answer (unless you had one that is actually more "calculable"), then that's okay. Otherwise, do tell your other answer. (If you have one, that is.)

Xenotaris,
Patterson was the daughter of an American senator, a born American citizen and a politician herself. She was an envoy working directly for the President so she was in a position to potentially become President in the future with all of these things working in her favor. At no point did she say, "I love politics, they're so simple." The entire point of the film is quite the opposite, so I'm not sure what form of air you're pulling that from.
