Yeah, of course, BUT I mean eventually... PLS GIVE ZILLA MOVIE PLS
I think the monsterverse needs to build Zilla up in a godzilla movie or a Kong movie or even a Mothra or Rodan movie before it can get its own movie. Get people behind the idea for cheering for Zilla instead of hating on it
dk I agree.
On a different note, I always hate in sci-fi that humans are destined to survive all conflicts that non-human agressors throw at them. We never saw a movie were humanity go extinct. I mean if you look at Human evolution, there were many species of humans, protohumans, and early homonids that were either close to being a humans or chimps or even an ancestor to both and they all went extinct to for one reason (give rise to a new species) or another (failure to compete with their competitors)
Titan of Water Survival is the highest order of all species- even plants have demonstrated that.
It might help to realize that this is sci fi and we can explore and discuss ideas. No one is really wrong, but the conversation can be interesting and fun! I appreciate EVERY ONE's contributions here!
I guess the reason I’m so against just giving up on my own species is that I just don’t give up. My dad instilled in me since early childhood never to give up. It’s just not like me to give up. I will always fight for what I think is right until the bitter end.
TheLazyFish There is a lot to unpack there but would be a great plot line to explore! In some ways, it might work with a Kong story too.
Godzilla was in ways the one who people loved to see but now they dread and fear Godzilla and their unsafe situation is of their own doing. G is just there to hammer nails in their coffins! It's just about business.
This could be a great series for Netflix etc...
Eh, probably almost everyone this day and age has.
Something that involves Godzilla using the kiss of death again.
If they buy the rights to Zilla. Or any other monster, for that matter. But still that would be epic.
I already lost all faith in our species so... XD
Yeah, the baby zillas scene was "inspired" (copied) SO MANY SCENES FROM JURASSIC PARK
Jet-Jaguar has a TINY cameo, like think of a passing flicker on a computer screen in the background, showing a prototype of some other robot. Titanosaurus and Gorosaurus have AT LEAST cameos in a Godzilla or Kong movie. Rodan gets his own movie, and so does Mothra, Zilla, and Ghidorah. Mechagodzilla is the main villain of one of those films or a Godzilla film. An absolutely amazing, Millenium styled (somehow made more awesome) Gigan the main villain of a Godzilla movie. Destoroyah is the main villain of the Ghidorah movie, the Rodan movie, or one of, if not the last Godzilla movie. Desghidorah a main villain in one of the aforementioned movies. Gryphon the main villain of the Zilla movie or a Kong movie. Bagan the main villain of the Ghidorah movie, the Mothra movie, the Zilla movie, a Godzilla movie, or a Kong movie. The list goes on! Though I doubt any of this will happen... except maybe the Rodan or Mothra movies?
I’d tag with the idea of a Monsterverse BC film. It’d be a film with no dialogue and would take place when Ghidorah first touched down on earth. Ghidorah’s arrival would begin with a hurricane unlike anything before and Ghidorah would fall out of the eye of the storm like a meteor. The movie would help audiences, who dont know who Godzilla is, have an emotional attachment to him. Show some backstory about him. This would also allow us to see Ghidorah in his prime. What if he had abilities before he was frozen? It’d establish him as a true villain on Earth and show some of Godzilla’s kind being victim to his carnage. This would also be a chance to see some new Kaiju that no longer exist in the modern day.
That was one heck of a comment.
Also, I kinda agree, but I do have at least some respect for my own species. But still a nice theory thing there.
I liked the creature itself. It was fast and agile- JP was big back then so maybe 98 picked up on that. I also liked the final scene in the stadium after the crushing bridge scene. It was a fist pumping YEAH moment!
98 was alright for me. I thought it was rather bad, but it was bad enough to be good.
I kinda agree with DK on this one. I love the idea of Godzilla killing of humanity, or most of it, to show the errors of our ways. Would really hammer in the lesson there, and make it seem more real than ever. It's why I liked the first movie of the anime, especially in the very beginning. Most people couldn't learn from their mistakes, and they died. However, some left the planet, but didn't learn. Some, however, survived on Earth, and DID learn their lesson, and were able to coexist with Godzilla and nature for thousands of years. I think there's still a certain way to handle it, though. Basically, in the future (right before time travel is invented), have Godzilla appear/ reappear and start destroying stuff. People try to kill him, but only piss him off more. A bunch of different Kaiju try to stop him, even evil ones, but he kills them. Humanity keeps trying to kill him and never learns their lessons, so he kills practically all of them. Finally, only a handful of people are left, and are about to be killed by him, until they get the time machine working and go back to a year before this whole mess. However, there are two factions in the group. One that wants to kill Godzilla then, and the other that wants to help humanity learn from their mistakes so that they can survive. The ones that try to kill Godzilla end up making him stronger, and he kills everyone. The second one... half succeeded. They still failed in getting most of humanity to learn from their mistakes, but some small groups of people around the world DID learn and survived. Godzilla goes back to being a neutral creature, and the surviving people end up becoming "tribes" essentially and exist in their own little place in nature, and essentially living without any ethical or moral problems for forever... or for a long time. The ending could just set up for a sequel where they became like the last civilization, and the cycle is repeated for the who knows how many times. Humanity has been in this cycle for a LONG time. Or, the less nihilistic route, they stay as a part of nature for the rest of the existence of life on Earth, and never overpopulate or pollute or murder or what have you. Life reforms, and its a "perfect world", with Godzilla always being bad ass. Da end.
Yeah, it could be an interesting plot, but I feel at least a handful of people learn their lessons and make it, and humans exist as part of nature, still showing there is a sliver of hope for humanity. Or you can kill them all. That'd be pretty kick-ass too.
Yeah, I like 98 as well. Though I think you already knew that ;w;
I like Godzilla 1998, but only when I treat that Godzilla as Zilla. It seems ok then. But for a Godzilla... not sitting well with me. Kinda true to the original idea, but also messes up following the original idea as well.
The Hooded Figure #TeamGodzilla Thanks for a thoughtful review! I think I will see it but set my expectations lower.
Oddly, I LIKED 1998 much to the Forum's chagrin!
There are several views about Godzilla out there, all with their own merits.
I chose a darker view that Godzilla is a force of nature that seeks balance but for whatever reason, gives humanity another lease on life to get it right but leaves a path of destruction in a not so subtle form of protest or warning. Godzilla is also a product of humanity's disregard for Earth in general. G has been awakened again and again for more than half a century to save the day and maybe starts to see the futility of the ungrateful and unlearning human species. It would be tough to blame G for just snuffing out the species- unfortunately, the ones who try to do the right thing are guilty by association.
If Godzilla is a force of nature, then he/she would seek balance, like water finds its own level. It is maybe a bit personal, but more about being a steadfast caretaker of the planet.
If you’re fine with watching a film that focuses more on the visual spectacle and less on the quality of the film, then Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the film for you. Despite having a stellar cast, the actors alone are unable to save the film with their talent, although some do manage to give their best which allows a general interest to develop for their character: Kyle Chandler, especially. One of the film’s saving graces, however, is the soundtrack by Bear McCreary. He does a phenomenal job.
I went in with low expectations (and glad I did) but the film is not all what the hype made it out to be. I was not impressed with it, but I felt the film was another byproduct of Hollywood attempting to produce their own film that comes from a foreign background without an understanding to what makes said film unique. Godzilla (2014) also overlooks as to what makes the titular character a representation of the atomic bomb; and Godzilla (1998), surprisingly, did a better job in attempting to recreate said aspect but failed to deliver in the end. Hollywood opts to entertain an audience rather than teach one with meaningful lessons.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters still feels like a Godzilla film, though I would rank it as one the worst Godzilla films in the franchise. And, with what’s been made in the MonsterVerse so far, only makes me hope that the MonsterVerse ends with Godzilla vs. Kong.
well technically humans don't go extinct in my fanfiction they just merely evolve into two new species but homo sapiens do go extinct since it follows the patterns of evolution.
No single species lives forever, that is why I had godzilla evolve through out the ages.
Same. I even have a poster-style ticket.
Look, I guess I was a little too harsh. But I respect your opinion. Your allowed to have it. I personally lean more towards at least some humans learning a lesson in a Godzilla film. I feel that if you make a Godzilla movie where no one learns a lesson, or at least acknowledges their wrongdoing, then it will make the audience think: “What’s the point of trying if no ones gonna listen?” This certainly doesn’t mean that no destruction or consequences happen, but I feel like you need to show the audience that change is possible so they are more motivated to do it.
Quoting someone just lets others know the idea is not original and gives proper acknowledgment. The leanings of the person doesn't make it any less true. It would be easy to dig up Mark Twain quotes to support the idea. There are several discussions about cynicism out there.
Godzilla is basically a cautionary story. Complete destruction of a species is about as cautionary as it gets.
And it's OK to disagree. After all, The OT asked for the Forum's thoughts.
I agree with Titan on this matter.
AND the guy you quoted is a CLIMATE CHANGE DENIER.
So because you quoted somebody you think that makes you smart?
"Cynicism is a form of expressing the worst case scenario to PROTECT yourself from the worst case scenario"- Bill Whittle
Look I’m a environmentalist myself. I care about nature and the well being of the planet. But I also care about human life. I’m trying to go against climate change to save nature AND humanity. It doesn't have to be people vs the planet. The whole point of the last movie was coexistence with man and nature. Also, cynicism won’t help mankind change environmental ways any faster.
But they NEVER learn. Godzilla rids the planet of humans to give another species a shot at it.
Isn’t the whole point of Godzilla is for humanity to learn their lesson so they DON’T become extinct?
Well Humanity needs to evolve to survive in a world ruled by titans/kaiju so humans must become kaijus themselves or else become extinct
i d o n t g e t i t
Um, are you ok? What made you think of that?
Though really it was a good movie.
I saw it in IMAX, so it was quite....realistic I should say.
Interesting. I think Mothra would also kinda be a family-friendly type, because the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy was more family targeted. But yeah, I think Godzilla would as well because he's the most well-known and more kids would want to see it.
Thanks, I think it's a great way to combine the human/kaiju plot. I imagine it as a combination of Top gun, Rogue one and Kaiju movies giving it a different tone to the other Monsterverse movies. That's actually something I hope the Monsterverse does in the future with its franchises.
For example, Godzilla would be the most standard with the highest stakes, Kong would be the darkest, Mothra would be the lightest/pretty and family-friendly and Rodan could be slightly less dark as Kong, but be way more of an action movie.
What made me a Godzilla fan was all the earlier films but also how he kept getting better on look and size and you can't keep the story line out of play either
