I think they should keep him as a Dinosaur(Godzillasaurus) FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But if they wanna keep his origin mysterious then i can still live with that. Just as long as they don't change him to a lizard or iguana or ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH AND DINOSAURS ARE NOT LIZARDS IF THEY ARE LIZARDS WHY DOES A VELOCIRAPTOR GROW FEATHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DINOSAURS ARE STILL NOT BIRDS THEY'RE JUST DINOSAURS THATS ALL THEY ARE

You're 100 percent spot on. I really wish they wouldn't have made clover field with that annoying shaky camera. Although it's still a pretty good movie though. I'm sure Godzilla will shoot for that same kind of feel. Only with a lot more destruction and probably better characters.

The 54 Gojira was supposed to represent the fear of nuclear weapons. The 2014 American Godzilla should leave San Francisco as if it were bombed by a nuke.
I agree, Godzilla is a creature so it being in the city would have to have a reason for being there and causing the attack. Maybe the humans accidentally made the two opponent monsters, thus Godzilla isn't a fan of this.

A True American I don,t think a Muto is going too attack a nuclear power plant well 1 reason maybe the muto,s would be in the city killing people or maybe destroying things but i do beileve that you might be right but it,s possible Godzilla could attack the nuclear power plant. and also some Mutos in the movie might be small like a child and maybe the big one,s the adults and the queen so im guessing that a Muto child might attack or Godzilla would it depends on the size of the Mutos.

@Cain Niac: Great Observation! I hadn't thought of that, but yes it does seem to be a volcano scene at Hawaii.
I appreciate you adding to my theory and making some of your own. Hadn't thought of them using that area to make a weapon/monster against Godzilla, but if they had samples from Godzilla stored in there then where better to test stuff to be against Godzilla.

I'd also say that the Heisei mecha godzilla gave the big G the best beating, I mean he literally blew up godzilla's secondary brain. But my favorite in design remains the 74' original.

Hmmm. Kudos to the research my friend and the insight on these plot points from the set are spot on. Id like to add more if I can. I noticed in one of the set pictures that looks to a nightshoot over a volcano which coincides with your Hawaii theory. Yes there are plenty of volcanos but this is just a speculation coinciding with yours for me. Also that nuclear facility with the train and tracks is confirmed to be carrying something. My best guess although this is just a theory is that after Godzilla emerges people try to find a way to kill him either by using a new weapon or a new creature which could be the Muto. I saw a call sheet with something that said it had Muto in it so im willing to bet that its either a chemical compound used to beat Godzilla that actually mutates other creatures or is the monster itself which either loses horribly to Godzilla and dies, or flees and reproduces making more Mutos that attack other areas.

@KYERO Well if you wanna get all technical about this realism bull crap why even make the movie in the first place. I mean yeah, you really need to have good actors to make a movie of this spectacle be successful. That's really where the realism comes into play. Monsters aren't the realistic part of the movie. It's the way the director makes you perceive these creatures. Say a giant monster from outer space comes and starts destroying the world. Nobody is gonna give a crap about how realistic that is. It all depends on how they can play that into a story line. Shit, I'd rather have giant lizard with some kinds of special powers or extra body parts then some regular giant lizard with no sorts of powers or anything at all. The audience is gonna want to see something that will make them say " Wow, that thing is freakin scary, and it looks bad ass!" Not "Hey, Jim, this monster is so realistic, it can't do anything but bite and scratch." However, aside from me disagreeing with you about that, I really do like how you said this is "Americas Godzilla" and you're right. It is very unoriginal to use Toho monsters for a sequel but you can't tell me you wouldn't like to see the big G take on King Ghidora one more time. I don't see why anyone would laugh at that. A three headed dragon wouldn't really be something to laugh about. Especially if it looked mean and destroyed everything in it's path, including other kaiju. I have faith Legendary will be able to create monsters just as good, If not better than these Toho Classics. I mean really, you could think of a million ways to keep bringing in these giant monsters. As long as you don't stray from the characters too much. That was really the big downfall with Pacific Rim. The actors weren't really that great and honestly I could of cared less about them. I just wanted to see the monsters fight the entire time. Also the cheesy characters(Charlie Day and that other weird scientist guy really sucked) that's really where your realism comes from. Not the monsters. Idris Elba, I think that's his name( the black guy) was about the only person who brought any realism at all into that movie. Sorry to get a little off topic. I was just giving an example if how not to make a monster movie realistic. Feel free to hit me back with your opinion 😉

Regardless of whether or not there's a sequel, Toho monsters do not belong in an American franchise. Godzilla is the focus, not Toho's lineup. I know Toho monsters are cool, as I'm a big fan myself, but this really needs to stop.
King Ghidora is a three headed space dragon. Where's the realism that Legendary is going for in that idea?
MechaGodzilla is a contrived and completely unoriginal concept today. When it first came out, it was kind of cool, but for an American franchise there is no logical reason to base a giant robot on the body design of a Kaiju. No logic at all. Why would they do that when making a human shaped one is so much easier and would be that much easier to pilot and operate since they don't have to worry about anatomy differences?
Mothra is a guardian deity, which is interesting in its own way, but still doesn't fit the realism that Legendary is after.
Anguiris is anguirus, and he doesn't even have a true classification. Is he a dinosaur or an armadillo? The jury is still out on that one.
Rodan is a flying pterodactyl-like creature, again no realism.
Gigan is a space robot with a buzzsaw for a chest... Do I even need to ask about this one?
Look, Toho has always been good at making cool monsters. We all know that, we all love it. But seriously, just stop with all the Toho stuff people. This is a new American franchise and it's going to feature American creatures. Even Godzilla himself has been re-imagined and it is no longer Toho's Godzilla. This is going to be America's Godzilla. Gareth said he'd like it to be considered part of the Toho lineup, but that's a dream that will never become reality because it's his Godzilla. It's America's Godzilla.
This is an American franchise, and bringing back Toho's monsters would be nothing short of contrived, irresponsible, and it would demonstrate a lack of creativity on the part of Legendary Pictures which would hurt the franchise more than help. Toho's monsters are cool and all, but they need to stay where they are: with Toho, not Legendary Pictures.

@: GTBETTA35: Good eye on the tracks leading up to the door. It could very well be a cart/train of some kind is there. Maybe normally it's used to haul heavy radioactive stuff, but know hauled something 'bigger'. Hadn't thought of it being a Muto. The possibilities of "what's inside" makes me eager to find out :)

You will never get a Ghidora in these American films. Although it's one of godzilla's sworn enemies, a three headed dragon is pretty laughable in this day and age. People want to see something they don't know much about. The Cloverfield monster for example is perfect. A year after the movie people were still debating its origins because it was so damn interesting. Was it from space? Was it from the sea? Now we know it's from the sea but what kept its whole origin under wraps waste fact that it looked otherworldly, then again, what do beings from ocean trenches look like? Other worldly being lol! Ghidora wouldn't work. People would laugh at it.

After seeing what GOJI2014 posted, Godzilla is... tiny.(Forgive me, I just had to admit it.) As much of a Godzilla fan I\'am, the Godzillaverse would be stomped by either DCverse or Marvelverse. Honestly. But there is a Godzilla from Marvel, and he stalemated with classic Thor, so.... But seriously, Godzilla is hella tiny compared to those giants! And I think my OK(original kaiju) Armageddon would be too huge... seeing as he\'s tall as the asteroid Ceres. I know, I suck and it's ridiculous.

This is taken from a marvel directory about galactus so here's why he alone could kill pretty much every kaiju
"Although Galactus is usually represented in humanoid form, each sentient being perceives him having a form resembling his own. Hence, humanoids see Galactus in humanoid form, while a Skrull, for example, would perceive Galactus as resembling a Skrull. Although as Galan, Galactus was indeed a humanoid; his true current form is unknown. It is unclear why beings from different sentient races perceive him differently.
Strength Level: At full power, Galactus possesses Class 100 strength, enabling him to lift well over 100 tons, and he can use his vast power to increase his strength immeasurably beyond that. However, Galactus invariably relies on his energy powers in combat rather than his physical strength.
Known Superhuman Powers: Galactus possesses cosmic power beyond the abilities of human beings to measure. Galactus is able to use the vast energies within him for an incalculable number of effects. Some of his most rudimentary abilities are the molecular restructuring or conversion of matter, the projection of energy with enormous concussive force, the teleportation of objects across space or even time, and the erection of invincible energy-screens and force fields. Even his heralds, whom he has endowed with a small fraction of his ever-renewing power, are able to manipulate matter and energy in ways far beyond human comprehension.
Galactus wears a full-body suit of armor constructed from an unknown extraterrestrial metal that permits him to regulate and control his personal energy. If he were to remove the armor, the vast cosmic energies that empower him would run rampant, with the potential to turn him into a small sun."
There's each race sees him differently, and his current form is unknown(this includes height, weight and anything involving appearance) That should be enough info alone to show that just 1 character could arguably beat every kaiju much less having the other super powerful characters from his universe with him.

I WAS HOPING that the mutos and their variations all come from one source AKA ONE MONSTER which have been confirmed as way smaller than GODZILLA. MAYBE the mutos variations (winged and 8 legged) are sprouting from one monster which the military cant destroy or stop from multiplying (which the term muto sounds like multiple and mutation to me NOW ITS MY BDAY BCROCKET HAHA) so godzilla handles the much smaller kaiju then has to face one more of on a size closer to godzilla but ,aybe thats too fantastical for gareth but id think it be awsome CHEERS BROS

Well, Gareth is taking this movie in a very realistic and dark approach. I think he'd do a sequel this way as well. Considering that the Jaegers(Which are very cool) were also kinda impractical..Im not too certain there'd be a Mechagodzilla. However, I could picture like Anguiris and Rodan all modernized and horrifying yet awesome. But I love this post, endless possibilities and thoughts.
