Well, ok I see your point.
Well, call it whatever you want. I call it celebrity crushes.
Not simping.
Godzilla's quadruped ancestor, created by United States citizen, this sounds like something to me, Rhedosaurus?
Capital C-Crazy....
I didn’t know guys simped on actresses this much.
;) lol
Hopefully the speculation that "World of Godzilla" is coming is fulfilled, and I hope Toho maintains an agreement with Warner to distribute these films worldwide. A well organized Shared Universe of Godzilla, and with all the Kaijus of Toho available, I find it a thousand times more interesting than anything the Monsterverse can do. What I do not understand is because the Monsterver and World of Godzilla could not coexist, are people stupid and believe that they are part of the same? I understand that they fear the competition between both Universes, but with organizing the premiere dates well, I think it would be solved, as @sonictiger says, the premieres could be interspersed, and if the fear is that people get confused, well, I suppose that with giving Godzilla a remarkably different design from the Monsterverse, perhaps with taller plates, charcoal black skin, with the classic texture, plates with an off-white edge, and a Mammalian face, BioGoji type, enough to distinguish it, and if not , they can resort to a different narrative, with, for example, an openly hostile Godzilla against humanity, the belief in the Hollow Earth disproved, a common thread that runs through all the movies, and others.
As for the Monsterverse, if Godzilla was still in it, how would his story continue? I already face King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla, and to defeat both, I need help, so kaijus of the same level, such as Biollante or Gigan, could defeat him, not to mention those more powerful like Hedorah, Spacegodzilla, Destoroyah or Bagan ( #notforgetBagan), so it would only be left to see him face kaijus of equal power to him, or weaker, which would be a setback from the point of view. The only two possibilities that come to mind are the confrontation against a type of enemy that Godzilla cannot fight directly, or that very powerful enemies appear, one of which defeats Godzilla, forcing him to "evolve" throughout a series of movies, to regain his Throne. Honestly, I think the Mosterverse is here, it has done its part, at least, with Godzilla. In any case, it is very likely that the Monsterverse will continue for a few more years in the hands of Kong and the exploration of the Hollow Earth.
KaijuBuildz,
You hit on something that really does worry me. (And unfortunately I won't elaborate on it in great depth until a certain magazine issue.) GvK seems to set up an alarming precedent. Its success could potentially point to more movies like this in the genre. (Hence Wingard being considered for the next one.) It concerns me because, like you, I prefer there to be more meaning to my melee.
I will say, watching Singular Point was an exhaustive sigh of relief following GvK. If you want a reminder that the genre can be more than a generic slug fest, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. As for the Monsterverse, personally, and to quote critic Chris Stewardson, I'm pretty checked out.
Demogorgon, kaiju edition.
Looks like a demogorgon from Stranger Things to be totally honest.

Yes, it is the best Kattozilla.
Also Xenotaris, your new list is better...
Ok, nevermind.
I really want a Russell/Brody team-up. Preferably with Madison and Sam.
this is the best thread ever
hAhA gOtEm
anyways yeah that was a joke
but still, this looks pretty cool i like it
well this relavation contridicts my own godzilla evolution since in both Gojiverse and Rise of the Kaiju Godzilla evolved from the bipedal dinosaurian Gojirasaurus.
Scaly Quadruped is the most powerful name I've ever witnessed
But yeah, it actually looks pretty sweet! XENO INCLUDE THIS IN THE GOJIVERSE- ok im joking
Zhang Ziyi is chinese, i would like to see Yuminko Shaku to appear in a MonsterVerse movie
Wait, Doug is PROTOGODZILLA?
What the actual ****?!
Also couldn't they have come up with a more creative name???
wow crazy good art!
Um, Zhang Ziyi returned?
bring in a japanese actor or actress
@G. H. (Gman) Yeah, now that you've pointed that out it does make a lot more sense. To loosely use an old meme "Maybe it's not the movie the world deserved, but the one it needed?".
Thinking about it, this could also explain why certain parts of the movie felt like a puzzle with certain parts missing. Maybe the movie was heavily re-edited to better fit this more casual mindless fun theme instead of the more thought-out plot of the previous movies. Maybe that's even why the trailer took so long to come out? I'm going down a whole new rabbit hole of conspiracy theories, but I'll let you decide.
It also does explain a lot why I and some others didn't like this movie as many others seem to do. For me personally, I really enjoy those more brainy and meaningful elements in movies, especially with Godzilla/Kaiju movies. It's the same reason why I stopped with the Fast and Furious franchise, just stuff happens for reasons unknown, physics just doesn't matter until they do? Godzilla movies especially have always had that more meaningful perspective on it, heck without it the big G wouldn't even exist. Then again, Godzilla has always changed depending on the times, going from an effect of war to a superhero to a force of nature to the embodiment of dying soldiers. It's weirdly always been part of the character.
As you mentioned, I'm really interested to see how in 5 years or so people will look back on this movie and if it will hold up as well as it does now. If anything I hope people will at least start to notice some of the flaws the movie has on rewatch. I hope if the Monsterverse continues, they do lean back to the more plot-driven stories of the previous movies, but only time will tell I guess.
And yeah, I would love this.
Hmm, very interesting. Always down for Biollante in literally anything so that's a great start. I do think Ren Serizawa could return for this as well seeing as I feel like there is still a lot more that could be done with the character. I've heard some theories/ideas floating around about Ghidorah's soul taking over his body after MG was defeated which could be very interesting.
Also, love the inclusion of Sam Brody! I really missed any appearance/mention of the Brody family in the previous movies and something like this would work so well especially with Madison in the mix (Kind of makes me annoyed they didn't do that for GvK)
KaijuBuildz,
I think part of it is, "right place, right time." I'd argue under normal circumstances, GvK wouldn't have done nearly as well or have been reviewed nearly as positively. But the fact is it's the first major release since Wonder Woman 1984 disappointed in December and I believe there's reason for its success.
As much as I don't like it, it's not a message movie. It's not self-important. And it doesn't remind anyone of current events. People are tired. They don't want a self-important, brainy, sci-fi espionage flick like Tenet from last summer. (Which is a great movie--Don't get me wrong.) They don't even want to be reminded they need "hope" from Wonder Woman 1984--That implies there's something wrong. Godzilla vs. Kong offered unadulterated, mindless, cheap escapism that took them as far away from the covid-era existence as possible. It was a complete exit from reality that offered audiences something to cheer for and it was enough to reinvigorate life in theaters.
This is probably the only instance I, or others, will critique a movie based on the point of time it's released. However, the extremity of the last year seems to necessitate and even justify it.
I agree with you and YeOldFossil, completely. The movie is a two hour lapse in logic, character work and nuance. I'm very curious as to how this movie will age. Will it be remembered for how it resuscitated cinemas? Or will it retroactively be seen as a mess we all gave a free pass due to the times? Or both? Personally, I think too many are still on their honeymoon phase with the movie to know for sure.
Thank you!! I'm so happy someone else pointed it out. Though I do believe a lot of additional scenes for Ren's character specifically were cut, this movie leaves A LOT to be desired when it came to the human story.
Another example for me was the villain's daughter character who entered the movie 1/3 of the way in, did literally nothing to the point of me forgetting she was there until she betrayed after which she was killed pretty much immediately. Btw, am I the only one who wondered how their plan to collect the energy source for MechGodzilla didn't account for the 100-meter tall ape?
Also maybe it's because I'm biased to King of the Monsters but how can critics go from "To much humans, not enough Godzilla" with Godzilla 2014 to "To much monsters, not enough human" with KotM and then to "Just brainless fun, who cares about the human story anyway"? I know that this is very much simplifying it, but I genuinely find it weird how these general opinions can change and interdict so much, especially since (in my opinion) the Characters in KotM were better than GvK. Then again, maybe I'm just not seeing something here that others are, I really don't know anymore?
Great, am I right?
True. But it would be awesome to see nevertheless....
