I didn’t see the elaboration so I just thought the response was,

When and Where do you like to watch Godzilla Movies?

SasquaDash: Yes

For me, it’s watching it in a theater because it’s just a better experience and you’re surrounded by other fans that share the same interests as you.

it’s like when I saw Spider-Man: No Way Home, the whole theater was cheering and it was just a fun experience being in that environment.

I wouldn’t completely get rid of world building but I think consistency in what the monsters are would be nice

Go back to original tokusatsu.
Make it a Japanese production.
Put it in Kiyotaka Taguchi's hands.
Focus on individual stories.
Screw world building.

My first Godzilla movie I watched was Godzilla the original 1954 film on HBOMAX and I can’t believe that I was able to watch it! The best part was when he peaked out over the hill like “ hello! Get ready to DIE!”

So anyhow, would you rather have Del Toro do something original with Godzilla or be the next director for a MV Goji movie?

BigGrayGolem,
I am a moderater. And I have no interest in a post count--Note that I post a lot less than most other people in this thread. So practically nothing you've said hold much weight. But I will ask how I've insulted "everyone", especially when I'm not the one who has done the name calling. (Yet someone else very clearly did.) This seems to to be spun periodically.

To not derail sonictiger's thread any further, you are welcome to continue the conversation in my inbox.

Related to G. H. Gman's constant, never-ending spamming, to be honest, I won't post here either. It's just impossible to have a conversation with someone who is going to comment on nearly every possible comment, insult everyone, and then tell everyone else it's their problem they get insulted. I really wish we had a decent G-board to hold discussions, but it only takes one high-post-count clout seeker to ruin it. Without moderators, this is what you get.

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumAm I the only person who isn’t really interested in non-Godzilla and Kong solo films?

Jack Capellini,
Part of it was the times in that the country had never seen anything like those films before. But what stood out was subject matter pertaining to current events and broad themes. Everyone knows what the original stood for, but then you have Rodan which was a take on PTSD and aerial effects. The Mysterians was an alien invasion movie and one of the first of the genre with a mecha--Less monster movie more science fiction. King Kong vs. Godzilla was a self-aware satire on Japanese television and adopted capitalism--Something that carried over into Mothra which was the real game changer. Suddenly the films were leaning more into fantasy and invited Godzilla into that realm with Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster, by which time the films had a particular Cold War slant.

Keep in mind a lot of these films weren't directly concerned with monsters fighting monsters, but how everyday people with various jobs (coast guards, scientists, fishermen, coal miners, marketing agents, reporters, detectives, etc) reacted to the appearance of these creatures. This is particularly true for solo monster movies.

Also consider these films weren't trying to build a world, but focus on being the best films possible unto themselves. This allowed for a wider array of tones, atmospheres and topics across multiple movies unconcerned with continuity. When you have the intention of creating a "shared universe" from the get-go you immediately pigeonhole yourself into a tone that every subsequent film must adhere to barring minor variation.

Ok, maybe those two for Japan...and Del Toro could either helm the next Godzilla MV movie or an entirely new project entirely.

While he probably could do characters like Madison justice in a Godzilla 3, I think he should make something entirely new when it comes to Godzilla.

Takashi Yamazaki and Kiyotaka Taguchi--Or a partnership of the two. It's been my dream team for years.

That wish partially came true since Yamazaki directed the footage for Godzilla the Ride--But he needs to head a full feature.

Answer: Early Showa Era films.

Del Toro is an amazing fit for the next American Godzilla in my opinion.  Anyhow, any Japanese directors you think could handle Goji's next Japan outing?

HinikunaGoji,
He was only a producer for Antlers, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Mama and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. As I understand it he hand picked the directors for each of those projects, though.

He was, however, responsible for directing Mimic, Hellboy I & II, Crimson Peak, Shape of Water and Nightmare Alley, which I have just so happen to have returned from in theaters.

And as sonictiger pointed out, the excellent Pacific Rim, which probably stands as one of my favorite Hollywood blockbusters of the last 10 years.

Also he did make Pacific Rim, so he has Kaiju experience.

I enjoyed Krampus, it wasn’t badly written, and it was just an ok movie.

Interesting all the MV directors so far are horror directors. I’d like to keep that tradition.

Godzilla: King of The Monsters has a lot of redeeming elements, but honestly I assume Dougherty's other projects are better.  KOTM is honestly just FINE, but I hope a potential Godzilla 3 (not GVK) could bring in a talented group of filmmakers.  I wouldn't be opposed to see a movie directed by Guillermo Del Toro if I were to choose...

HinikunaGoji,
Trick r Treat is Dougherty's best film and isn't close. He showed a lot of promise with that film. Krampus, not so much. It's a worthwhile technical achievement though. I'll give it that much.

Well, the thing is I just want something different from a talented team of creators.  American and Japanese to be specific.  And Paramount may be the next stage since WB, Sony, and Universal have all had their cracks at the genre.  And none of them have exactly succeeded (with the MonsterVerse only being a partial success in my eyes).

Ive enjoyed his pursuits outside Godzilla. Krampus and Trick r Treat are enjoyable for me.

He likes to do movies about dysfunctional families though. Which I think he was just retreading in KOTM

And Michael Bay did have a certain style, and he did want to make those movies.  I just think he wanted to do it his own way and had a very poor grasp of the source material.  And admittedly, at least two of his Transformers movies were good but like Godzilla I would like something that sticks to the source material.  And while Bumblebee didn't exactly do that, it was still good as it had a team of filmmakers who were competent and imaginative.  I think WB has been competent for the most part, but they haven't been imaginative.

sonictigerGodzilla ForumWill "World of Godzilla" Connect To The MonsterVerse?

Exactly, you need to have competent and imaginative filmmakers to make something work.  Also they proved that their human characters can have depth and substance with Bumblebee, so it could be best to have Paramount carry out the next iteration of an American Godzilla.

HinikunaGoji,
I think the comparison he was making was closer in response to how Transformers was treated than the Monsterverse. Either way he's right, but competent, imaginative filmmakers wouldn't hurt either.

Honestly I think all the MV films have had teams that love the property, Why else would Dourghtey shove so many Easter eggs in?

Pitting MV against Marvel just didn’t seem like it kept with the themes of 14’

I think Michael Bay is mainly to blame for that issue, as Paramount let him do whatever he wanted and he turned Optimus Prime into a violence-craving maniac.  They turned a better direction with Bumblebee and I'm excited to see the direction they take with Rise of The Beasts.  They could certainly do Godzilla and Toho IP justice, but they'd need a team that cares about the source material and what made Godzilla and his universe endearing in the first place.

Also Paramount is a better fit anyways, since Universal already had their crack as they handled King Kong for 86 years and internationally distributed 1962's King Kong Vs. Godzilla.

To be honest, my first choice would have always been Warner Brothers. But the way they treat their talent and the strangling creative control they force on some of these projects make them very unattractive these days. And it's clear they've had little positive effect on the Godzilla films at present.

I'm not sure who I'd like to see handle it. No matter what Godzilla will be channeled as "action-blockbuster" material, which didn't fit in Final Wars and continues to clash now. It really comes down to the talent, but the way studios look at material matters too.

Maybe Paramount, if it came down to a big studio. But, then again, I'm not particularly fond of the way they treated Transformers.

I would say the issue with Hollywood working with foreign studios and filmmakers for potential blockbusters is that, usually, they usurp those filmmakers in question for their own benefit. (And they get away with it since they usually put up the majority of the money.) So a joint venture doesn't interest me. It seems like it would just be Hollywood spinning its wheels again.

I'm more interested in what Toho will do from this point forward, but if Hollywood were to make another attempt at Godzilla, I'd rather a totally different studio try their hand. We've seen what Legendary is all about by now and it's less than exhilarating.
