UPDATE 6/21/2022:
Actuals confirm a slight uptick for Shin Ultraman's 6th weekend. (World of KJ and Kogyotsushin) The film maintained its spot at #3 for the third weekend in a row. At 3.84 Billion Yen this week's exchange rate brings it to $29.7 Million. At 2.57 million attendance, Shin Ultraman is expected to finish around 4.3-4.4 Billion Yen--Perhaps just shy of 3 million admissions.
6th Weekend Comparison:

UPDATE 6/19/2022:
Early weekend 6 estimates from Eiga Ranking News put Shin Ultraman's total at 3.832 Billion Yen. ($28.4 Million) That attendance reaches an estimated 2.57 million, blowing well past both Son of Godzilla and Destroy All Monsters.
At this point I think Shin Ultraman only has one more prominent kaiju title it can feasibly top. It can pass the Heisei series savior, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah's 2.70 million attendance. (And will.) But I think it will be shy of Return of Godzilla's 3.20 million. It might hit 3 million, but it will be quite the crawl.
Either way this is a massive win for Tsuburaya Productions and easily the most successful piece of Ultraman media.
Actuals tomorrow or Tuesday.

GMK is one of my favorite entries in the Series. It has always impressed me as being a Showa Era film made in the 2000's. Its characters, especially Yuri and Taizo Tachibana, are memorable and beloved. Hideyo Amamoto's performance as the mysterious Prof. Hirotoshi Isayama is riveting and unforgettable. Godzilla as the unstoppable vehicle of the anger of the souls who perished in WWII is completely convincing and overwhelming. The Narrative about the Guardian Beasts of Japan gives GMK a fable, storybook like feel. That an ancient record, a book about them, should factor so prominently in the story is most proper. Shusuke Kaneko brings the characters close to us through scenes at restaurants and at home with the Tachibanas. The decisive nighttime sequence in Yokohama is dreamlike. Then, there's the tips of the hat: to the Shobigin with the Maeda sisters in identical dresses as Mothra flys over; to the frenzied, beleaguered Insp. Osaka from the Gamera Trilogy by way of Yokijiro Hotaru's terrified, and would be suicidal, salaryman who stumbles into Ghidorah's lair; Godzilla peering over the hill at Hakone hot springs in an eerie shout-out to his reveal on Odo Island in the 1954 classic film. And then there's the tenacious, doggedly determined Baragon. What a joy to see him again through a memorable performance by Rie Ota.
This movie is satisfying on so many levels.
The promise of a Kaneko Godzilla was fully realized.

Minor update:
I've finally compiled an Ultraman Film series chart based on gross. USD is not included right now as the massive flux in exchange rate from year to year would not be accurate. Attendance is not included either since these were fairly small releases and none reached 1 million. Those numbers are difficult to find at this point.
Clearly, cinema is not where the franchise thrives. Most of the movies are glorified episodes not worth pushing into a lot of theaters since it doesn't take much to make back the TV-based budgets. Additionally, Toho's distribution was critical to Shin Ultraman's success. Toho owns the majority of theaters in Japan and Tsuburaya's deal with them gave Shin Ultraman a wide release--Especially compared to prior films.
Additionally, the last seven years of Ultra films have basically been long episodes, most not worth a rewatch. (Though I did enjoy the R/B movie more than its series.) Tsuburaya hasn't had much incentive to push movies like this into a wide release. So the majority made less than 100 million yen.
To be clear, I'm not saying, "Ultraman movies are bad." On the contrary I plead for more to watch the excellent and criminally underrated The Next. Superior 8 is a beautiful film and the Zero Trilogy will take your virginity. But the last decade has been filled with cheaper TV products pushed into few theaters.
Shin Ultraman seems to have been the right revitalization at the right time:

UPDATE 6/14/2022:
5th weekend actuals have arrived from World of KJ, via Kogyotsushin. Shin Ultraman had an outstanding hold. It remained at #3 for the second weekend in a row. (Top Gun: Maverick dropped to #2, dethroned by the latest Dragon Ball movie.) The estimates were accurate, with Shin Ultraman holding at 3.56 Billion Yen, which exchanges to $27.6 million today. (Any other year it would've exchanged to around $35 million.)
It's closing in on the 4 Billion Yen milestone. Should it get anywhere near that in its 6th weekend, it should surpass or equal Son of Godzilla (2.48M) and/or Destroy All Monsters (2.50M). It will also be very close to topping Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (2.70M). Additionally, it's also closing in on Spider-Man: No Way Home's final attendance. (2.77M)
Shin Ultraman is the 6th highest grossing film of the year in Japan. It's the 3rd highest grossing Japanese movie of 2022 and the 1st highest grossing live action Japanese movie of the year. Although the exchange rate to USD is at its lowest since 1998, it has easily outgrossed every giant monster/kaiju movie in the last 10 years with the exception of Shin Godzilla.
The point is it's now carving into the Golden Age (50s & 60s) and Heisei Series which are the two most successful eras of the Godzilla franchise. While attendance is slowing to a crawl, it's still in the top 3 at the box office and has many weeks of life left in it.
Charts have been updated with corrections to other movies as well.

UPDATE 6/13/2022:
5th weekend estimates are in from Eiga Ranking News. Shin Ultraman is at an estimated 3.551 Billion Yen (estimated $26.5 Million). The film received a massive percentage boost from its 4DX release this weekend, which gave it a Friday of 108% over the prior Friday.
Attendance is estimated at 2.39 Million. It has officially beat every Monsterverse movie and Champion Festival movie in both tickets and gross.
(As of Monday, it has sold an estimated 2.41 Million, meaning it has also topped every Millennium Godzilla film, including GMK, as well as Higuchi's Attack on Titan - Part 1.)
Should actuals hold, Shin Ultraman is now more successful than 52% of the Godzilla series. It is also more successful than every non-Godzilla kaiju/giant monster movie released in Japan in the last 10 years.
