I have major doubts. I bet the deal Legendary has with TOHO prevents them from just killing off their kaiju without any real reason. Also, Legendary would not ever name a kaiju world destroyer lmao. Also, This ending would cripple the monsterverse and prevent them from making any more movies. This ending would really make the godzilla fans angry, and im sure TOHO wont let them kill Godzilla that fast, Legendary would try to make it emotional and long.
Also, the plot synopsis for GvK is as follows
"As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever," the official synopsis teased.
This plot "leak" we are reading has nothing about monarch in it, but in this synopsis, it appears a large part of the movie will focus on them.
all in all, It would be a horrid buisiness decision to kill off kong or godzilla, you would upset too many people and the movie and monsterverse would suffer, and the official plot synopsis sounds nothing like this "plot leak"
Tough call but I think I will stay on team Godzilla, the true King of the Monsters
I love King Ghidorah but Godzilla needs the Dragon Force now! I gave King Ghidorah my vote to save him and we lost that war. I join Godzilla now in blessings for revenge on every T-Rex Kong killed. For all the kids who made my life a living he'll over the call in 1962. Please Lord Godzilla all Dragons are King but you are the alpha ultimate God. All hail and praise to you holy Dragon. Please Lord King Godzilla kick Kongs ass!!!!
King Kong ain't got shit on Godzilla! Hail King Ghidorah and Rodan!
OK, I'm new here so forgive me if this theory has been discussed before but, there has been a disturbing lack of "King" preceding Kong's name in the Monsterverse films and KotM put clear emphasis on how important a "King" figure is for the Titans. I think it's pretty obvious that Kong is going to earn his "King" in GVK.
I do like the idea of a Batman V Superman style "battle turned team up" against a greater evil and I think there are going to be some other key players we're not going to know about until closer to the time, but the confirmation that there's going to be a clear victor means some people are going to get pissed off no matter what they do.
Hmmm. This does not look amazing. 180 mil is descent, but it is still not even close to being a real success. These numbers may be a little low as they are just an estimate, Avengers endgame was set at 346 mil opening estimate but actually had a 357 mil opening weekend in the U.S. so maybe this is the same with KOTM? we can only hope, otherwise this movie has to have some strong legs to carry it on since the future of the monsterverse is hanging on how well KOTM and GvK do. luckily this movie has no real competition for a bit, aside from maybe Dark pheonix, which has low box office tracking and looks bad. a lot of kids are also out of school now, giving the cinemas bigger audiences on the weekdays as well.
Hopefully these films are a success
I think it would be way too soon to bring back Ghidorah in any shape or form, I think the end credits scene was a more long term hint as it would be a little ridiculous to have such a wealth of interesting monsters and just bring back one that was in the last film, except as a robot.
Plus, Monarch is building the mechanised titan, Jonah has the head and, many times throughout the film, Jonah's organisation is credited as primarily dealing with DNA, I think if anything is going to come from the Ghidorah head, it'll be to do with its DNA and in a few films from now.
If they do go with an original new monster to be the mechanised design, I do hope they manage to design something interesting because all the Legendary original monsters so far have been pretty tame and uninspired.
I'm putting bets down on Gigan but, let's be real, we all want it to be Jet Jaguar ;)
First movie I actually saw was Shin Godzilla back in 2017... dunno why it took me so long to watch one, I absolutely love dinos since I was a kid, and from there started to like giant monsters, of course I'd love Kaiju movies!
Big lizard with atomic breath? Love at first movie! Especially with Kamata-kun in there!
Honestly I don't see how they can make Kong win AND have a satisfactory ending. I'm a Godzilla fan, but c'mon, it be unfair even to Kong fans if they just make him strong as fuck with no explanation or make him win just because.
I'm rooting for them fighting together against revived Guidorah, as that would make more sense (Kong only won in 62 because Godzilla was a villain at the time, seems weird to see 'good guys' fight)
Precisely. #Team Rodan to the very end!
Fat chance that I would ever join the Team of ANOTHER False King.
I didn't make that connection initially, but you bring up a good point. Definitely a similar shot.
Its going to be one of four things IMO. Mecha King Ghidorah, MechaGodzilla, Destroyah, or a brand new Titan made by Jonah Alan. I do like the Gigan idea though even though it is a long stretch unless they made him more robotic like in Final Wars now that could work.
Niiiiice!
But I will stay with the kaiju constantly overshadowed, passed by, beaten, and overall people generally don't care about, I serve team R O D A N !
MechaGodzilla or MechaGidorah. Or Gigan.
We getting a commentary this time?
That was Mothra man.... I'm pretty sure she said that too....
Maybe, maybe it's Mechaghidorah, because of the Ghidorah head at the post credits scene. Maybe Destoroyah, or as I like to call him, DESESTROYAH!!!!!! I mean, Dougherty said he wants to bring him into the ring.
Considering he was able to lift a being that weighs almost 70,000 tons more than him--his raw physical strength is absurd.
Critics are st00pid
My main complaint with the movie is that the humans kept talking when the Kaijus were fighting. Damn Kaiju-teases..... Other than that, movie was bloody amazing! Especially loved the callbacks in the music and Godzilla's roars to the OG 1954 Godzilla. 9.5-9.999999/10 for me!
Well that's so blimmin stupid! I mean, I can kinda see the initial idea, but as you pointed out, with a little bit of thought you realize "Huh, I guess I was wrong about the villain thing". Seriously... I hope I never stumble upon this youtuber...
Woops, sorry! No idea what I was thinking then XD
He also said there will be a clear winner though, so there is going to still be some stir in the communities, even though they probably won't die.
G. H. (Gman): We'll find out eventually. The true cost only the studio knows and despite what pundits say, ultimately it is the studio who decides whether a film fails or succeed in terms of box office. We can only make educated guesses.
I haven't seen the show since I was a kid, so I completely forgot about this scene XD
I'm not entirely sure it will fail, but I do think it has a massive uphill battle. On a $200M budget, the breakeven point is $400M worldwide. It won't be safely out of the woods unless it makes $500M+.
G. H. (Gman): Or maybe the problem is with the projection? I stand by my view 130 million may not be fantastic, but neither is it so dreadful. Anyhow, what really matters is what the studio thinks of the box office. It's funny, sometimes you almost sound like you are so sure this movie will fail. But I'll agree we'll have to see if it has legs.
Godzillatheking123,
The problem is that $130M take was much higher on Friday. We were initially projected for a $230M worldwide opening, now we're at $180M? Where did that $50M go?
Even China, which we tend to rely on for these kinds of movies opened lower than expected. The initial numbers were $70M+. It's looking more like $67M now.
There's a chance the $49M domestic estimate is low, but it won't be much higher than $50M--In fact there's even a chance the actuals are lower, since that's been known to happen.
Hopefully it has decent legs.
CAUTION: KING OF THE MONSTERS SPOILERS
Dougherty stated in a previous interview that he was hoping to bring destroyah back into the ring and we know that at the end of King of The Monsters that a certain someone has the head of Ghidorah. Because Ghidorah can regenerate body parts, and this means we might get to see Mecha-King Ghidorah. If either of the two previously mentioned kaiju return, it would make Godzilla vs Kong, a Batman v Superman type movie where both Godzilla and Kong would team up to fight the greater foe at the end of the movie, which wouldn’t be surprising and would make both Godzilla and Kong fans happy.
Titan of Water: With youtube reviewers you have to be a little careful, some are quite decent and knowledgable (like Mr H), but some reviews are just pure nonsense by people who simply want more views. They take extreme views and go off on rants and weak arguments to attract more hits, but they don't fundamentally care about the thing they are talking about. Bottom line, be careful in giving too much credibility to social media reviewers, they may not deserve it.
Saw it and absolutely loved it. I can agree with some that the cutting away from the action was a tad disappointment but this movie delivered on everything I wanted. I rarely disagree with the critic consensus these days but Imo they really missed the mark on this one (how is Pacific Rim uprising getting better reviews than this?).
I’m sure if one were to look there would be a lot to nitpick with filmmaking and storytelling but within the first 10 minutes I knew what standard to hold this movie to. Current ranking of the Monsterverse to me is:
Godzilla KOTM
Godzilla
Kong: Skull Island
G. H. (Gman): Well, it's not confirm the take will be under 50 million...yet. I'm not disputing the soft opening, but international take is very low? Uh? $130 million may not be out of this world but it is nothing to sniff at.
If you are right though, I guess you can blame RT and the reality that most moviegoer are sheeps (actually..no, it's usually due to more complicated issues than just one website, but I am digressing).
Maybe the wait between Godzilla 2014 and KOTM at 5 years was just too long and the appeal among the general audiencehas died down. Maybe WB was wrong to picked this summer period to open with so much competition. Maybe Godzilla is just a more niche product than WB want to admit.
Godzillatheking123,
Maybe, but now it hinges on Godzilla vs. Kong. With the confidence WB had in this movie and all the marketing pumped in to it, $49 million for the weekend is quite soft. The international debut is looking pretty low as well.
The movie might be lucky to break even.
TheLazyFish actually it's not an electromagnetic pulse it's a nuclear pulse it's just atomic energy like his atomic breath but it fires from every inch of his body. But I agree Godzilla considering he was able to just grab sling and chuck Monster Zero/Ghidorah around sending him crashing back and forth seemingly effortlessly tho the air and through buildings even though he weighs well over 100,000 tons I'd as he could easily ragdoll hedorah and destroy him.
