I’m rooting for both but I just hope the battle between both of them will be burned in everybody’s brain.
I like the design of Rulers of Earth Godzilla
Um...Invasion of Astro-Monster. Godzilla’s victory dance is awesome
These honestly don't sound too terribly different from what we've heard before.
Titanosaurus. I can hang out in the bottom of the ocean and no one will bother me.
The Monsterverse has already pushed the bracket pretty far on the PG-13 front anyways; it's kind of an established part of the franchise now.
And anyways, as many others reporting on this have mentioned, it's the fact that the movie has gotten its MPA rating now at all that's relevant, since it means a close-to-complete version of the film was screened for them.
I'm rooting for Godzilla to win but I will not be mad if Kong wins, just i will loose a bet to my dad who is a King Kong fan.
Aren't all Godzilla and King Kong movies or less PG to PG-13? When has Godzilla or Kong ever been Rated R?
I'm personally rooting for Godzilla, but I honestly won't be mad if Kong wins. If he does, then all I ask is that it feel earned.
****Yes Imerichunter we are pretty much on the same page. Based on some ending scenes of KOTM as you pointed out, there are hints that Kong will win. I’ve read in other threads the Rocky underdog scenarios as well. And when I read that Kong will be titled the new King, I was livid! Look, it’s my hope that the delay is because they realize they got the battle and ending wrong. Hopefully their changing the course of the script to NOT KILL OFF GODZILLA. We all know Kong won’t die any way’s. It’s not a Titan that brings Kong down. It’s a woman! Lol Your right, how can MV continue without the mighty Lizard! Lol As I said earlier in this thread there’s other notable Titans that could possibly keep MV alive for at least a couple more installments, providing the writers get this so called Kong victory fair, and NOT kill off Godzilla, and most importantly the movie makes a good chunk of money. If it tanks, then that would be it for MV I’m afraid. If the outcome is such that he does get killed off, then here’s my spin. Let’s say that somewhere mid movie the battle takes place and Kong defeats Godzilla and he dies. Then Mothra emerges and resurrects him. Then enter the Mecha’s – whoever it may be. Then Godzilla makes his new entrance and comes in contact with the so called villain Titan. As we all know Godzilla is always the one throwing the first punch. Kong happens to come on scene as Godzilla and the Mecha begin to battle, but Kong is a bit bewildered because he thought he had killed off Godzilla. He witnesses the battle from behind a ridge where both the Mecha and Godzilla don’t notice Kong watching. As the battle unfolds, the Mecha is getting the best of Godzilla. This is a very brutal dangerous villain Titan. Kong realizes that this Titan could destroy himself as well. Then this is where the compassionate side of Kong kicks in gear. He comes to the aid of Godzilla and they both team up to destroy the bad guy! Then after their victory they look at each other as if they’re going to fight again, but instead they actually gesture to each other some kind of Monster mutual respect and Godzilla walks away to give Kong his island back. As all of this is going down, on the other side of the script is Destoroya or another dangerous Titan that Monarch cannot contain or destroy, and he’s making some kind of entrance to more of the ending part of the movie, perhaps on the other side of the planet. This is the making of perhaps the next installment? Anway’s that’s a vision of mine that could ease the pain a bit I suppose! lol
*** Yes, hawk 4117, Kong will win. If he does I will also ban the Monsterverse just like you. I'm debating not even seeing it if I hear that Kong wins. Unfortunately there are a few pretty solid hints that he will:
1) There has been a question as to which titan will be the 'bad one' and why, with many thinking that Godzilla will be the more likely aggressor. But isn't he supposed to be the protector of earth? Why would he turn? While there is no evidence yet as to why, a statement at the end of KOTM foreshadows Godzilla becoming malevolent. After Godzilla kills Ghidorah, the character Rick Stanton comments, "Good thing he's on our side!", which Dr.Chen adds to by stating "For now", suggesting that something will happen that makes Godzilla a threat to mankind.
2) In a past interview with director Adam Wingard, he says that he loves movies in which the underdog wins, and he references the film Rocky IV in which Rocky is the clear underdog to the giant Russian, Ivan Drago. Rocky is just dwarfed by him and his strength, but ends victorious. I think Godzilla is the giant King of the Monsters and that in reality Kong wouldn't stand a chance. The statement subtly hints that the underdog Kong, like Rocky, will be the winner.
3) The most obvious hint though is that so far the ape has been simply called Kong. But isn't it supposed to be "King Kong"? Yes, that's right, he will be granted that name and title by the end of this film as the victorious winner, taking the crown and name away from Godzilla.
Neither will die, as it would leave the studios without the ability to make any more movies featuring that titan. And I firmly believe that at one point late in the movie they will team up to defeat MechaGodzilla.
The storyline may have changed though, resulting in the current delays and reshoots. The head of Warner Bros. said he wanted to make this "an A+ movie" after the severely underperforming KOTM. Most people think the delay is just a matter of a few simple reshoots and a bit of CGI refinement, but his statement could involve adjustments to the storyline, script, dialog, or anything really, in order to make it "an A+ movie". I think they're going through it with a fine tune comb to make sure everything is there to make it succeed and allow them the chance to make a rematch sequel.
As I said before, it makes me feel sick to think that Kong will take the crown and I'll maybe skip even watching it or any more Monstervesre films. ***
I think at the end of King of the Monsters end credits the egg is a Mothra egg, which is just my opinion. But if Godzilla is killed off, which I absolutely hate the thought of, then it makes sense that the blossoming egg of another Mothra could be what resurrects Godzilla back to life? Maybe?
It shouldn't be a game changer. I think a more violent and profane R rated version would seem sort of jarring.
For anyone thinking a niche property, that struggled at the box office last year, was going to cut its audience to even less with an R rating--You're nuts.
its says brief language so thank god that means they most likely wont put another f-bomb in it.
Not too terribly surprising. The last three MonsterVerse movies were PG-13, so I didn't really expect this one to be different.
Started off as a parody of that Justice League dialogue and then I decided to throw in the twist at the end.

I was kinda hoping for a gritty R rated movie but oh well.. we’ll see how this goes
Ramjet307 That also sounds a bit like G 98 except there were several eggs. Still, that could be a way forward for future films- but the MV would still be there?
I have read these posts, I'd like to add my thoughts. First, I am a Godzilla fan, best movie monster ever. This is how I see Kong vs Godzilla playing out. I think Godzilla will dye, either by Kong's hands or by injuries from MechaGodzilla. However, at the end of King of the Monsters end credits, it indicates a large egg has been found. Now, the director has indicated it is a Mothra egg, I think that is a ruse. I think it is a Godzilla egg. This is not out of line with another Godzilla movie-Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla and later in Godzilla vs Destroha baby Godzilla takes in all the radiation of the melting down Godzilla.
This plot would allow Kong and Godzilla to continue with further movies. And it would fit the director's comment that there will be a winner.
Any thoughts are welcome.
it's a very difficult choice to make, almost all of the films fit that description. Except for the human part, they all got a lot of boring dialogue. So which everyone you choose, be sure to light up mid-film, because usually the climax is the only interesting part. Either Invasion of the Astromonster or Godzilla vs Megalon should do the trick if you want something from the showa series. But probably the best one of all is Godzilla vs Hedorah. Everything is crazy in that movie, including the humans
Also some of my favorite slapsticky fight scenes are in King Kong vs Godzilla and the post above makes a pretty convincing case for GMK, and other films come to mind as well so I don't know, toss a coin, be sure you'll have fun anyway ;)
Uh ok... watch Godzilla GMK (2001). The climax to that film is pretty much pure insanity :)
OK- I'm going to go ahead and upvote for sheer honesty and originality.
Hopefully, Legendary will announce s release date for these graphic novels. I always look forward to these to "fill in the blanks" between the movies.
I completely understand your thoughts on this matter and several of the points you made. I personally prefer the end battle of G14 mainly for different reasons, and I actually don't really compare the battles in terms of cutting away that much. However, I do believe the cutting away in G14 is more elegant and stylized than KotM's, and I'll try to explain why.
I completely agree that any Godzilla battle needs that tension between the monsters and the little humans running around below their feet. This is something that, in my opinion, is almost completely missing in both G14 and KotM because, let's face it, we don't really care about the humans. In KotM, I really didn't care when Vivian died (and neither did the characters, but that's besides the point), and I definitely did not care when Emma died. I did care about Serizawa, but he didn't even die in a battle, although I am happy he didn't.
In G14, like you said, there was that scene in the underground egg chamber that was quite long and far from the action, not really adding any tension between the monsters and humans. However, for me, this is what actually keeps me invested in the battle, believe it or not. We have two god-sized creatures throwing down in a city of ruins and fire. Put the humans directly in the battle, and what happens? We get dirt, rubble, and fire thrown at the the audience left and right, as well as ugly, awkward angles of monsters fighting directly above us. I know I'm sounding way to harsh and salty than I really should, but yes, I am referring to KotM's battles. Never once do we get to see these epic monsters in their entirety, throwing each other into buildings and stepping on each others bodies. Nearly every shot is as close to these creature as it can get, resulting in (like I said) awkward, jumbled shots, not to mention the shaky camera. Just once during the fight scenes during KotM, I wanted that beautiful wide shot of Godzilla and Ghidorah, or Mothra and Rodan fighting. This is what takes me out of the battles in this movie. Those shots in G14 that you said were too far away from the battles are actually the kind of wide shots I wanted in KotM, but unfortunately never got.
Sure, G14 definitely needed more of those monster/human interactions. The momentswhere the female MUTO takes notice of the humans are pretty cool, such as the bridge scene, right before the first atomic breath scene, or right before the second atomic breath scene. These parts are well directed and do have some tension, but once again, Ford is not a super emotive or special character, something that could really add some good tension to these moments. I do believe that it's a bit different during the actual battle sequences, however. Like I said before, putting humans between the feet of the monsters can go pretty wrong. Maybe having them be a bit farther away--still within distance of serious danger--and making certain wide shots to where the audience can actually see the both humans and the monsters clearly while also feeling a sense of danger and suspense... maybe that could work (and of course we still have to care about the humans). Overall, I prefer the G14 battle simply because of the direction, cinematography, and action in general... if there isn't a sense of tension between the monsters and humans, there is deffinately a sense if tension between the monsters fighting.
Also, just go gonna mention that this was very well written. You really elaborately explained your thoughts and compared the actual battle scenes in full detail while also staying unbiased, which I appreciate. This really helped me to understand why the KotM battles are better in your eyes.
Gigan! I love Gigan! I love his pincher beak, his laser and his famous and awesome buzzsaw, his hook hands and most of all his roar, he maybe evil but who ever designed him is a genius! I would definitely be him for a week of course fly around and using the buzzsaw too! It could the original or the one from Final wars thier both genius designs!
oooh I don't know which kaiju to choose there is so many cool kaiju to choose from. Toss up between Godzilla1998, Final Wars Gigan, MV King Ghidorah, and MVGodzilla
I became a fan because my brother passed down his figures to me and I just started to like Godzilla as a Whole, Even through the madness we call Zilla I stay with Godzilla and will continue to for as long as I live. Also My favorite Godzilla designs are 1954, 1964, and 2001 those are not it but that doesn't really matter. The First Godzilla Movie I've seen was Godzilla 2000 and that movie continues bringing back memories. I was 4 when I became a big fan and that's it for now.
Either MonsterVerse Godzilla or Heisei Godzilla.
And I know that this technically isn't one of the options, but Rulers of Earth Godzilla would definitely be a contender with MV Godzilla for my top pick.
Godzilla Earth.
I get to sleep all week while inadvertently terraforming a planet in my image. And who the hell is going to stop me?
Wrong forum, will be moved shortly
I would probably either be Gigan (Showa) because he's one of my favorites and I would also fly around in space and stuff, or Mothra (most likely Heisei) because if I come to visit some cities or something hopefully an entire army won't come attack me
Great opinions and comments throughout this thread. No doubt the two top dogs in MonsterVerse are Kong and Godzilla. Godzilla having more history and battles, Kong having an Island to tend to. The info on the internet regarding all plot leak type rumors are very interesting, as well as all the comments I have read. I feel the OP on MosterVerse coming to an end after this installment is over is unfortunately a strong possibility. Personally I hope not though. If this movie does well at the box office where a big chunk of money was made, then maybe it could lead to a possible “rematch” or other battle type scenarios. If there’s a descent storyline to lead the way, then MV may have another installment or two left in the oven. There’s other Monsters that have notable notoriety such as Gigan, Biollante, Destoroyah, Hedorah, Megalon, Gabara, Megaguirus, both Mecha’s and of course we can’t forget Gamera the flying Turtle! Lol Now wouldn’t that be fun to watch! So there are other candidates for a little bit more of MV if and only if this upcoming movie does well. Now it’s been mentioned that G vs K will be extended yet another year! Rumored to be in May of 2021 I think I read somewhere. Geeez!
Tbh, I don't really care if this'll be the last movie in the MonsterVerse. I mean, so far it's been fun, but imo neither K:SI or KotM are up to par with G14, or several of the other Toho movies for that matter. I could see the MonsterVerse becoming too mainstream, which would be a shame considering G's Japanese roots. If this were the case, I'd rather it not continue.
Hopefully Godzilla vs Kong is successful enough that the contract is renewed. Although I don't mind having to go to Toho Godzilla movies but some of my friends might not be interested in them.
Xenotaris With all that's gone down, I wouldn't be surprised i this was the last movie in the MV. And if I recall correctly, the original contract with Toho went up to this year, so unless something changes, this might be it. Might.
I'm just worried that Toho will not allow the monsterverse to continue beyond Godzilla vs Kong
I told you I saw the book on the Barnes and Nobel website!
I hope they do because I want to see more of Behemoth and Methuselah.
