Kong could easily either do these:
1. Use the GvK axe on them
2. Do what he did to Skullcrawlers
3. I'm not a Titan expert, there is no three
SarcasticGoji,
We don't know if it was underwater in Antartica or not, that's merely fan speculation.
But if we're talking about how well written King Ghidorah is, that's the majority of my issue. He's not.
King Ghidorah was more intimidating when characters talked about him than when he was actually on-screen. We constantly have it rammed down our throats how Godzilla's rivalry with King Ghidorah is "legendary", but we don't see King Ghidorah do a lot himself. We never actually see him destroy a city, ala prior movies. He retreats during the first battle after Monarch arrives (of all things), it was confirmed by Dougherty he would've lost against Godzilla in the second battle had the Oxygen Destroyer not intervened and he needed Rodan's assistance after Mothra arrived to help Godzilla in Boston. So much for visual storytelling establishing their rivalry. Not my favorite incarnation of the character by a long shot.
It really highlights just how well his introduction was handled in the original, 1964 debut. In that film there was build up--He was the last monster to show up in the movie, because the film built up to his big reveal, saving him for the final act - We were shown he's an alien, not told, because he landed in a meteor (*gasp* visual storytelling!) - We're highlighted how powerful Godzilla and Rodan are by seeing them pound each other for half of the movie, giving audiences an idea how strong King Ghidorah must be if they have to team up with Mothra - We watch how quickly he can exterminate a single city, especially compared to Godzilla & Rodan - The military don't even bother mounting an attack on him. This is not about comparing which incarnation is stronger. This is about which was established better as a threat in terms of cinematic storytelling and build-up. Honda, Sekizawa and Tsuburaya nailed it. Dougherty and Shields decided to write the least effective route for a villainous nemesis possible. The Monsterverse version just comes off as a bully that needs a world of monsters' help at best.
I highly doubt legendary Kong could beat Legendary King Ghidorah, not only does Ghidorah severely out weigh him, he’s way larger, has the flight advantage which gives him advantage in travel speed and agility, he has a way larger arsenal, with gravity beams that would scorch his flesh similar to how he did with Mothra, three heads to overwhelm him with multiple attacks at once, large spiked tails to knock him off his feet and possibly break bone, he can withstand far more damage than Kong, has an edge in intimidation with his size and his huge wings he uses similar to how grilled lizards use those frills to make themselves seem three times larger which will definitely work on Kong. I don’t see how Kong can actually win, but I’m not saying it would be completely one sided, I just think there’s a 85 to 1 chance of him winning.
I agree with you SarcasticGoji
Thanks Gman, hopefully GvK stands on it's own as a good movie.
@Gman
The battle in the Antarctic was probably underwater, because Ghidorah would need to freeze so of course Goji won That one. Notice on my original list I said maybe, because it depends on the environment. And since people in this discussion started talking about land, I said what I thought would happen on land. I didn’t specify and that’s my fault. But the Rodan and Mothra comments are obsolete to this discussion.
And about impressiveness. I don’t know about you, but generating a cyclone around yourself is pretty impressive. And I like that Ghidorah was actuall at written as a Villain, and not a pawn.
sonictiger,
I concur. Hopefully it stands on its own as a solid film.
SarcasticGoji, you're right. For anime and MonsterVerse.
But Legendary Kong would beat Legendary Ghidorah.
Boys will be boys. At least they're not like some of those in the Peanut Gallery...
G.H. (Gman),
The movie still at least has a lot more to get behind, and KotM was much more of a movie that you needed to do your research on. All you need to do for GvK is watch Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. And think on the bright side, this movie does have a lot of hype attributed to it and it's a promising project. The trailers have done a good job of selling the idea. All it needs now is good execution for the whole movie.
I know, you'd think they'd notice...
SarcasticGoji,
But the movie and director established that Godzilla had already defeated King Ghidorah in a one-on-one battle. Additionally, Dougherty also said had the Oxygen Destroyer not been launched, Godzilla would've won the battle with King Ghidorah in the ocean. When King Ghidorah was cornered by Godzilla and Mothra, he needed Rodan to take the heat off of him--So you just sorta proved my point. Furthermore, he retreated when Monarch attacked him in Antarctica. Not to mention it took awhile for three heads to hit one humvee... Showa Ghidorah would've just wiped the whole city clean in seconds.
Not a very impressive incarnation and the writers could've done a great deal more to make him seem more threatening and less of a bully.
sonictiger,
It's not so much that I'm worried about past failures, but they do inform future projects. I never once said I'm not giving Godzilla vs. Kong a chance, but after the letdown of the previous movie, my expectations are not very high. Which is probably for the best.
It's really weird that they didnt create a topic for the new tv spots
ok, but do ya think Mecha-King-Ghidorah will be in the MonsterVerse soon?
first comment on my own thing again
He wasn't mind controlled in Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster, but I don't see how being mind controlled negates the fact so many other monsters were needed to defeat him. Being taken down by 10 monsters or so isn't a bad way to go out.
Ghidorah Is OP,
but I wish we didn’t just see his heads. I wanted to see him descend on the helpless Godzilla earth in his full form
Never watched the Netflix Anime btw.
SarcasticGoji, THANK YOU. Rodan just fought Mothra. And then Mothra beat Rodan. And Mothra transferred her powers to Godzilla because he got his butt kicked by Ghidorah.
Ranking Ghidorahs from Least Powerful to Most
GMK
Hesei
Showa
Monsterverse - Yes more strong than Showa, Showa has nowhere near the speed, agility, or regenerative capabilities.
Anime
Gman, you're worrying about the failures of the predecessors too much. Give GvK a chance.
Jordan502, I really did like KotM too. It gave me mostly what I wanted. Action, scale, stakes, good casting choices, and awesome CGI. The dialogue was a bit shaky, but I still finished the movie being thoroughly satisfied. You're right.
@Gman
actually Ghidorah didn’t need an assist from Rodan,
Godzilla and Rodan Never fought at all in that move. So in a one on one KOTM Ghidorah would win.
Mothra and Goji would have defeated him but Rodan intervened making it again just Godzilla vs Ghidorah and Goji gets pummeled. So in a one on one KOTM Ghidorah would win.
But he had to be mind controlled, at least in Astro Monster. I guess my line of thinking was incorrect. I remember all the times he got defeated is because he was ganged up on. In DAM his defeat is kind of pitiful in my opinion.
I'd argue the originals had equally high stakes to be just as epic. Personally, I was bored.
Sonictiger
Well good thing i don't base my opinions on the past failures. Went in with my group of 6 friends and came out overly excited for what we watched. Holding our popcorn buckets themed in the KoTM movie. Talking about it days after with a smile on our faces.
I genuinely enjoyed the movie, it gave me what i always wanted to see. Epic action on an epic scale that the originals couldn't give. For me that's all that matters.
SarcasticGoji,
Showa King Ghidorah would have trampled Godzilla in a one-on-one fight. He took on Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra by himself, 11 monsters at once and Godzilla was never able to stand toe-to-toe with him in a fair battle.
And King Ghidorah needed an assist from Rodan.
He was able to take on all three by himself in the Showa era.
Oh straight facts. KoTM Ghidorah was of alien origin(as with most of its incarnations) which is why Ghidorah was almost(probably was) immune to the oxygen destroyer. Does not abide to the laws of Earth. The Netflix anime trilogy movie, which was my fav, being a being that existed and didn't exist at the same time. Godzilla had to get assistance nearly every time he encountered Ghidorah, either by human help or another third party.
Also Gman, Godzilla needed a fricking assist from Mothra to beat Ghidorah in KotM.
SarcasticGoji, Gman, Jordan502. ChrisRemix is right, I may be Team Kong but the real win is walking out of the theater (or turning off HBO Max, which will be me since GvK is coming to HBO Max and theaters in the USA) and say "This was a great movie." Honestly, don't base your opinions on the failures of past movies. Just look at the next and just be generally hyped.
SarcasticGoji,
Regardless of how it's executed, we've still seen it over and over. It's nothing new. If I'm to be honest, I found the confrontation in Godzilla: The Planet Eater more interesting due to King Ghidorah's terrifying circumstances and the impossibility of Godzilla being able to land anything on him. The stakes felt higher and the story made me actually wonder how he would be defeated.
I never worried about King Ghidorah being defeated in King of the Monsters, since the story established Godzilla had put him on ice before the movie.
ChrisRemix,
Agreed with everything you said. #TeamGoodMovie is more important than #TeamGodzilla or #TeamKong. I don't care who wins either as long as the film succeeds in what it's trying to do on all fronts.
Although, I find some recent comments from Wingard a bit worrisome.
@Gman
Without CG, I think GhidoraH fights would always be the same, I mean think about how many wires and tangles would happen if you wanted to achieve something differne than the normal (my exaggeration here:) floppy Ghidorah we have seen. That probably accounts for repetitiveness, the restrictions for such a wire dependent puppet.
Anime Ghidorah (Is it weird I really like this Ghidorah) Sure,
Monsterverse Ghidorah - Depends on Environment
Keizer Ghidorah - Sure Again
GMK Ghidorah - No
Hesei Ghidorah - No again
Showa - Definitely Not
I feel like this movie is taking better steps in the right direction given the marketing and how things are shot, however KOTM tricked me the same way so I'm being reserved. That being said though, from the cinematography and action we're seeing so far I think its gonna be miles better than the disappointment that was its predecessor.
I don't care who wins, what I personally care about is walking out of my room or theater (whichever I watch it in) and being able to say contently, "That was a good movie" rather than lie to myself and say "I enjoyed it for what it was".
Honestly, Netflix is just not that great.
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude
Which King Ghidorah? Which Godzilla?
Sorry for issuing the first comment challenge Gman, technically it was my fault.
