Yes, the main march was originally supposed to provide a sound for the JSDF. But even Ifukube acknowledged that it had become so, "synonymous with the character" that he used it to underscore Godzilla by the time Terror of MechaGodzilla came around.

Interestingly enough, it still works as Godzilla's theme in the original movie as it's heard during his second attack on Tokyo and as he fights the air force.

As for City on the Edge of Battle, like Ifukube before him, Hattori uses the same theme for Godzilla in each anime film. He simply plays with it a little differently each time.

I don’t judge KOTM just by it’s faults, it has many positives for me as well. To judge a movie by faults alone and not the things it did right is ridiculous. For me it’s pros outweigh the cons.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the OG goji theme meant to convey the army and not Goji?

Also, I noticed the City on the edge of battle on and GVK one are similar in style. They are kinda patterns of chords. Not a bunch or variations

King of the Monsters is many things, but tonally uneven is not one of them. That's one of the things I quite like about the film.

Yeah, but KOTM had character issues, tonal issues, and a very bad script.

But then again, theses movies don't have the best scriptwriters...

But GVK had a focused direction, and it never wavered.

I made an account to reply to this. King of the Monsters is easily my favorite of the four. I love the relationship humans and kaiju had in that film, and I really liked how it painted Godzilla as less of a monster and more just misunderstood. It hit the perfect balance of kaiju and humans. I've watched KotM again and again, and I still enjoy it more every time. I can't say I could do the same for Godzilla vs Kong.

KotM also has some of my favorite scenes throughout the entire MonsterVerse too. I could go on and on about them but I don't want to spam images. Some of my favorites are the scene where Dr Serizawa revives Godzilla, and this one of Rodan.

I hope we get another one like KotM so, so badly...

I don’t think it’d be worth it vs just making another chapter in the Godzilla and Kong story. I don’t think a stand-alone mothra would be good but if she got significant screen time and plot development in a Godzilla movie he’ll yes sign me up for that. Like rodan she’s more of a supporting role then a big movie star like Godzilla and Kong. Also SPACE GODZILLA MONSTERVERSE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! Also animated tv version of the comic Godzilla in hell. Make it an hour or w/e and sell it to crunchyroll or Netflix. Boom done

I prefer these over Hellhawks if I'm being honest. Also the last one looks more like a baby one due to the proportions.

As much as I really like Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong, I personally think that Godzilla 2014 is the best MonsterVerse Godzilla film.

These were probably early versions of the Hellhawks.

I've recently heard some fan theories and rumors that the design and name changes could have something to do with Toho continuing it's contract with Legendary (possibly as a way of differentiating the two series?)

Although this is just speculation, so we should probably take it with a grain of salt...

I heard that the kanji for "Goshira" is used to mean an ancient depiction of Godzilla. Basically it means he's an ancient monster.

I doubt this is a permanent name change. This is Godzilla after all. Most likely a nickname specific to the anime.

I think fan service can be done without mindless fun, but it does seem like a throwaway gimmick in most cases. Some movies and shows do it more tastefully and, perhaps more importantly, with more significance to the story than others.

Fan service refers to callbacks and homages to the franchise proper. Mindless fun is, well... Godzilla vs. Kong.
