fair point, i just wanted to make a point im my opinion because of the ghidorah was made weak (from what i heard) a weak earth defender in G:KoM comics. i would count kiezer ghidorah in but his apperence and name make him a vairant to 'king' ghidorah, not the 'king' ghidorah. i understand that there are a lot more monsters that need a revamp,(ghidorah is not my #1) biollante i think 'needs' a comeback, then rodan and titanosaurus.

i luv the desighn but i have 2 complaints. 1. necks little fat.   2. his feet look wierd

I don't really see any problem with him getting defeated after the controls for him got destroyed. Space Godzilla got beaten after his tower got knocked down, mechaG destroyed when his plating got melted off. The point is before those things happened Ghidorah mechaG, and Spacegodzilla were all winning by a lot, then something happened that turned the tide in Godzilla's favor. Godzilla was getting wrecked by Ghidorah for most of that fight and the thing Ghidorah got that neither of the other monsters did was a round 2 were he came back and basically tied if not beat Godzillla as Mecha King Ghidorah. Overall I don't see any problem with his power in this movie. He was beating Godzilla in not just 1 fight but 2. 

I don't agree with this "potential" word you keep using as I said throughout most of the showa Godzilla needed help to beat him. Gigan is somwhat of an exception but at the end of that movie after Gigan ran away both Godzilla and Anguirus fought Ghirorah. In the heisei he was winning then something happened that turned the tides, but came back later on and beat him. GMK was never supposed to have Ghidorah but they subbed him into the script over Varan to make more money so that's the real reason he did so poorly in that 1. Then there's Final wars where he was once again winning until something turned the tide in Godzilla's favor.

The only really 1 sided fight throughout the whole series is Destroy All Monsters and, but every other time Ghidorah holds his own. There is no other monster besides maybe MechaG that always wrecks Godzilla to that extent when he's in a movie.

So should they make Ghidorah better? God no I know a lot of people will argue with me if I said Destroyah was Godzilla's most powerful oponent and the main other contender would be Ghidorah. To give him more would just put him leagues above every other monster and Godzilla for that matter. 

@Gman2887, I have to agree with you tht the more and more I think about it, this is going back to the dark roots of the original film, so yeah Radioactive wouldn't really go well with the tone.  I'm very excited to see what Mr. Desplat has up his sleeve for this movie.

Fellow fans, I understand where you are coming from, but girls and teenage boys with girlfriends are spamming that vampire academy button right now. Those losers don't know what a good movie is! Watch guys, when godzilla comes out and they watch it, they are going to regret paying 9.95 or 14.95 for tickets to a stupid vampire movie they watched. Godzilla will win this battle, maybe not for mtv, but în theaters near you.

i never said king ghidorah was stupid, i simply said i wished he had high intelligence like spacegodzilla did (as many fans say). and i recognise that he has been in the most movies in the franchise beside (godzilla and mothra) compared to other monsters. my point was that in all his movies he isn't given the potential, for example in the heisei movies, he was tough against the atomic breath but got defeated because of his mindcontrol got broke and godzilla got the advantage, heisie ghidorah did probably destroy the most cities but, mg2 almost killed godzilla, spacegodzilla is said to be highly intelligent and very evil, destoryah was ruthless, evil and tough.

I have seen all 28 movies, and the Godzilla desin I like the most is the Millenium Godzilla (Godzilla 2000 to Final Wars). The new 2014 design has a wolflike snout and look, and is missing the small ears (Yes, all Toho Godzilla have ears!). That is why he isn't a true reptillian. He always had ears, a bearlike body, teeth and fangs that show through closed jaws (not the "overbite" in the 2014 model), and humanoid hands (but only three fingers and a thumb, all with claws). His basic shape looks like a Tyrannosaurus with much larger hands and arms, giving the desired predator stance.

Obviously, he always had a humanoid shape because the Toho designs are suits with an actor inside. That is what made Godzilla such a dominant and intelligent monster.

@GMAN2887 The main thing here is that this event would get the trailer out to other people. Statistics and studies don't matter. Who cares if they watch it again? The point is to get a large amount of people to acknowledge the movie exists. That's what marketing is about. Playing it safe gets you no where. You have to take financial risks in order to reach new audience. This discussion is closed. You are fighting just to preserve the dominance of your opinion, pitiful. 

King Ghidorah does not need to be in any godzilla movie for a while. If you count Keizer Ghidorah as the same(which i do) then Ghidorah has been in 7 Godzilla movies out of 28(29 if you count the American 1). That's a ridiculous number of movies for a monster to appear in besides the main character monster Godzilla. Right now if you had a pile of random Godzilla movies and you blindly picked 4 chances are 1 of the movies would have Ghidorah.

 He's been portrayed every way possible, alien, future monster, mecha, good guy, bad guy, a monster that needed a lot of monsters to take down, a monster that 1v1ed godzilla, and monster that needed help taking down Godzilla, was it basically a tag match. So he's been given every since way to look. He doesnt need to be portrayed in a different way because he's been portrayed in basically every way possible. He is almost always controlled, but his intelligence isn't really stupid, he's extremly tough throughout the showa, and even heisei series, and he destroys everything. He's as good as he's gonna get, and he doesnt need another chance to try to make him better

IT would be a dream come true for Godzilla to beat a teen vampire movie though...that would be so sweet.....I'll b e like, "damn right, that just happened"

I don't think there'll be any monster-monster fights in water environments..but with humans, likely. Plus, with a really possible sequel, they could reserve epic monster water battles for that.

TO FLOP OR NOT TO FLOP...It's always the predicament of all movies...but to say immediately assume a movie would flop because of the difference in the marketing in countries isn't really so valid....

I mean seriously, look at the kind of trailer this movie had...when was the last time a similar trailer, which focused on the tone of the film but didn't reveal the most delicious things in from the film just to get people interested...it did so kinda like poetry.

This movie has been long in the making and wasn't rushed, they also have talented people, fans even, that were in its making, TOHO even had their say. People also know about how different this movie feels like, and lastly, Godzilla's a huge name.

All I gotta say is that this Godzilla has one of my favorite designs, if not the most since we haven't really seen it in action yet.

Keep in mind guys, the older movies are directed towards kids.. I watch them now and realize "this is fucking stupid".. but I mean.. It's Godzilla.

He looks different from the old suits, but my god from what I seen, I'm stoked! Hopefully the toe and small feet isn't actually true, if it is, oh well. I love it and can't wait to see this movie
Also, I'm pretty sure Toho won't allow any company to take the title "Godzilla" and it not being Godzilla anymore, plus that would be the dumbest thing legendary and the producers could do.

Godzilla is known worldwide, it's been around longer than probably most of our life-times. I seriously don't think it'll be a flop. Cloverfield was an only movie and it still did rather well and that was based of the point of view of a camera guy.. Imagine what Godzilla will do, fighting monsters, destroying the cities, realisim. I don't think this movie will be a flop, and if you think so, well I feel bad for you man

The fact spiderman 2 came back and won the first round blows my mind, but I don't think it had quite the deficit Godzilla does. Unfortunately Godzilla got a bad draw, a huge viewer base of MTV is teenage girls and unfortunately Godzilla is going up against the biggest movie of the year quite possibly for most of them, granted the voting on that poll is 1 of the most random, uncommon voting I've ever seen so who knows 

Ill tell everyone why i love it so much, reasons:

His head: his idk "eyebrows-forehead" looks exactly like the one from the 1974 goji

His neck:so much detail with the skin, his gills make him way more realistic considering hes a water type creature.

His body: well a lil skinny like u said not rly godzilla-isch but i must say it looks good to me, his spines dont look like they're made out of rubber like 90'goji instead of a solid rock-bone material and i hope they dont move this time.

His tail: looks so much like classic godzilla i love it.

If pacific rim showed us anything no matter how good a movie is it will be beaten out by movies around it if they have a bigger name associated with it(I don't think any1 would say Grown Ups 2 is better than Pacific Rim, actually is was almost universally hated but it did better than Pacific rim in the box office) So Godzilla has 1 week to itself before X men comes out the week after and kills a huge amount of its potential audience.

Since his enemies are supposedly buglike I doubt there would be especially since the bigger 1 is supposedly winged. 

Godzilla vs Megaguirus

Gun that shoots black holes opens a wormhole to prehistoric times then prehistoric dragonfly fights godzilla while they shoot black holes into earth 2 more times during the movie's runtime

Of course this movie could flop. But there's no evidence in the first post that supports that possibility, especially in relation to Cloverfield. Cloverfield did well both domestically and worldwide for a 1st quarter movie. It made its budget back seven times over.

I dont know, but it would be an interesting spectacle to watch.

Why the heck would they kill him off?

That would be a waste. It worked in 1954 because he wasnt a franchise back then. But he is now. And you would need to be a complete moron(like Emmerich) to kill him of. Godzilla wont die, he will win a glorious battle, and then walk into the ocean to explore this new world.

This design is great because they knew they didnt have to differentiate. They kept this design at Godzilla, and knew there was no reason to change it into a shitty oversized dinosaur. They kept him at a design that looked like it was the next millenium design.

He looks like Godzilla.

He works like Godzilla.

He acts like Godzilla.

He IS the TOHO Godzilla, done in cgi. And that is what i love about this.

I think a different movie may do more damage to this movies succsess, one word.....

I never really like it when they keep the concept close to heart and conservative. This Godzilla is the perfect midway point between a normal godzilla and let's say Zilla for our purposes. It's got enough kick to look totally new and can deprecate itself from all the other G's but doesn't go against the grain as much as Zilla did concept wise (and for the record I love the Zilla design and movie). 

The texture is completely different and the head is drastically longer and more rectangular than the official birds eye view. 

I dont think so, I think it will do really well. They did an excellent job of casting this movie. Brian Cranston just won the Grammy for best actor in a TV show people totally adored. So that will bring in a ton of viewers who may not know Godzilla but will be enticed because of him.

It will be hyped to high heaven I think and for good reason it looks ah-mazing. I wasn't a fan before, now I am after seeing this level of actor choices, the gorgeous effects and the care that the people making the movie put into it, it all looks fantastic and I can safely tell you other people I know who would normally not be stoked to see it are now too. This movie is special people can feel that, it's gonna be big.

People want to see the classics done well, I know a lot of older people that didn't watch the newer Godzilla movies because they thought they got stupid. Seeing this new version, they are excited to see Godzilla again.

You're right, movies are a commodity to be sold like beer/cars...etc... But it's a product that's not reaching the Super Bowl audience according studies. That's great you remember the trailer for Transformers 2 and that you seem to be a part of the 30% that is taken by movie trailers. I for one didn't even remember Transformers 2 being advertised. Nor do I recall any other trailers outside of Star Trek, but that's because I was looking for it.

Based on that it may not be the most lucrative outlet to advertise films. So what if it's not, as you say, good for the gander? We have to consider the audience and what they cater to. "Millions of people" don't always equate the "target people". You wouldn't advertise Criminal Minds during Power Rangers. Maybe movies aren't the right outlet to advertise during the Super Bowl? There isn't necessarily evidence of that, but there is evidence these spots aren't staying with the Super Bowl audience like other ads. Perhaps those studies are on to something.

In any case I feel like the advertising for Godzilla has been fairly standard just as any other movie. Saving the Godzilla trailer for the end of the year and releasing it after the X-Men and Captain America trailers was brilliant because it sticks out more and overshadows previously released trailers. I think most people are just nervous after what happened to Pacific Rim-- which is understandable, but not entirely warranted. That and there's an arrogant sense of self-entitlment from a large portion of the fanbase. Many of them just want more immediately and others feel Godzilla should get a special treatment because, well, they're fans of it.

I dont think it will be a flop - but its also not going to be close to the big hit of the year either. It's got a decent amount of competition around the time it comes out - and I dont thinka lot of parents are going to be taking young children to this after they see the trailers lol. All of that is fine by me. As long as it does well enough for a sequel to be greenlit immediately, I dont care if it does just ok.

Im actually proud of Legendary - if they only cared about making the most money possible, this would be a very different movie...maybe they would have showed some chick with big boobs washing a car in the trailer (*ahem Transformers) and thrown a few big name (but not necessarily talented) actors into the film. So many movies nowadays feel focus group tested. This Godzilla is going to be something different-which means its a little bit of a risk. But if its as good as it looks - word of mouth will carry it and it will do just fine.

People should be happy, AND GRATEFUL, Godzilla doesn't look like Zilla this time.
