The best Godzilla movies for me would be either the original Japanese version or GMK. The original has a unique eerie atmosphere that none of the other G films have been able to match. I think that filming it in black idea was a great idea, because it really enhances the eerie effect of the movie.

1) Godzilla '54
2) Tokyo S.O.S.
3) Godzilla vs. Destroyah
4) Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
5) Godzilla 1985 - my best friend and I endured the late showing of Sixteen Candles so we would have premium seating for the FREE midnight viewing of G-85 in the same theater.

so far im only up to 1968 Destroy all monsters But the king kong vs Godzilla was crazy I hated the ending though since it suggested that the stupid ape won however I will never forget Godzilla standing on his tail to drop a double kick on Kong that image is seared into my brain it was freaking INSANE!!!!!!!!

A tough choice to make!
The 1954 Gojira is of course the greatest. A true classic of the monster genre worldwide, not just Japan.
But outside of that, I find I have to divide my favorites up by the decades they came out:
1950s - Gojira '54 of course! (apologies to Godzilla Raids Again)
1960s - Destroy All Monsters 1968 - a bit of a controversial choice, as most Godzilla scholars consider Mothra vs Godzilla the best of the 1960s. M vs G '64 is indeed a great movie, and it had more hands-on FX work done by the great Eiji Tsuburaya than DAM did. But ultimately, the big multi-monster throwdown in DAM thrills me more.
1970s - Terror of MechaGodzilla 1975 - I like the hippie weirdness of G vs Hedorah and the design of the monster Gigan has always been a favorite of mine, but the quality is most consistent in TOMG.
1980s - Return of Godzilla ('84 Japanese version, no offense to Raymond Burr)
1990s - Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla '93 - great Ifukube music score, a great revamp of MG.
2000s - Godzilla, Mothra, MechaGodzilla: Tokyo SOS - another somewhat controversial choice. I really want to like GMK 2001 best, and if Shusuke Kaneko had been free to do exactly what he wanted with the story and had more time to do so, I have no doubt it would be my favorite. But as it stands, I just really like that Kiryu MechaGodzilla design.

The first one I ever saw was King Kong vs. Godzilla, but for me the absolute best is the Original

@Squaredrop
Godzilla vs. Gigan was directed by Jun Fukuda and it was released in 1972. The 1974 Godzilla movie was Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla and it was also directed by Fukuda. Hiroshi Ishikawa never directed a Godzilla movie.

Gojira. I actually didn't see it until two years ago, and it's just devastating, otherwise it flip flops between Godzilla 84 and Godzilla vs Biollante.

Besides Gojira, it's probably Terror Of MechaGodzilla. Godzilla vs. Monster Zero is up there, too. I remember renting that movie from the local video store when I was about 4 or 5 and my older brother and I watched it in the dark one night, sitting on the floor in the living room. I don't know why but that memory always stuck out in my mind. Good times, good times.

My fav Godzilla movie is Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster. I like the idea of it taken place on an island , being more adventurous instead of Godzilla and other monsters destroying cities all the time. Plus, Godzilla to me had a cool design look.

It's a tie between the original Japanese version of the film, Gojira and Destroy All Monsters. I really love the theme to Destroy. I even have it on my iPod!

Durp004September 25, 2013
Either the original or Godzilla vs Destroyah. I have to respect what the original did and how good it really is but I can't ever forget the chill I felt when Godzilla jr was dying and Miki says "this might be godzilla's last fight" as Godzilla fights Destroyah

godzillafan42September 27, 2013
Ghidorah the three headed monster is my favorite. It brought a lot of monsters together(this was before DAM so that's kind of a big deal to have 4 together).

Gojira 2014September 29, 2013
Mine has to be gojira 1954. Maybe until the new movie comes out but I cant say tell I see the movie.
I have become death.......the casher at the donut shop.......

I would have to go with the first movie that started it all for me. Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla: Final Wars, the return of the Xilans was amazing.
spawnzillaOctober 01, 2013
my favorite godzilla film would have to be the 1st one. it just had a good story and a strong, powerful message behind it all.

awsomeJaijufanOctober 07, 2013
umm how do you put a picture ? cause it says put url but i dont know how ?
King Seize-HerOctober 08, 2013
For overall fine film: Godzilla 54 (of course)
Showa: Godzilla Vs Gigan
Heisei: Godzilla Vs Destroyah
Millenium: GMK. All Monsters Attack.
Sorry, but I can't just narrow it down to one. Impossible because I love so many different G-films for different reasons. And even some of these I listed here could change depending on what day you talk to me.

Godzilla EvolutionOctober 09, 2013
Godzilla 1954 is the best from everything! it has that ambience of dark and a scary tone. the eerie monster attack, the destruction, the cries and screams of the people as Godzilla leaves a trail of chaos....is just pure epic!

BigbyOctober 11, 2013
For me the original 54' Gojira, it was the origin point and it was dark, nasty, etc, and it also has this cinematic quality to me . For the godzilla/kaiju versus movies my fave is Gozilla vs The Thing, it felt more intense and as many people have said, the king looked pretty mean in that movie.
Oh and hopefully, Godzilla 2014, I want that to be my new, ultimate favorite of course!

G-RaaNovember 03, 2013
Mine has to be The Return of Godzilla (Godzilla 1985) it had a similar tone to the 1954 film but in color and with an updated Godzilla.

I can't decide between "Godzilla V.S. Hedorah" and "The Wrath of Mecha-Godzilla"

True American GodzillaNovember 10, 2013
1954 Gojira Film: In here, the monster feels tougher than the later Gojira. They use fast regeneration to heal from damage for one thing. This one seemed to have a tougher skin. Plus, it was more "ferocious" or "darker" than the other Gojira.
1998 Zilla Film: Okay, so the monster isn't Godzilla. However the look is cool and the movie is exciting and fun.
2014 Godzilla Film: I know, I haven't even seen it yet and already I'm loving what I'm seeing already.

My favorite would have to be Godzilla vs Destroyah. If a movie can move me so much as to cry then hands down it goes in my top 10 movies of all time. Also before all the small Destroyahs assemble it scared the hell out me when the night security guard is all alone versus those things, I shat my pants. Also because it was the second death of Godzilla which is another reason as to why I loved it so much. Its amazing to see how they finally killed off Godzilla in the most saddest way possible.

My FAVORITE is Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster. I don't think it's the best Godzilla film (though I do think it's up there) but it was the very first one I ever saw. Rented it from the library and was hooked on Godzilla ever since

Quathryn December 12, 2013
Gosh that's a tough one. I'd have to say King Kong vs Godzilla since it was my first. I watched it over and over again when I was really little.

Varan42December 15, 2013
Godzilla vs Destroyah was definitly my favorite movie. Destroyah was a total badass and the fight between the two monsters was epic.

Godzilla7007December 20, 2013
Godzilla vs. Destroyah is my favroite. Only because it makes me cry at the end every time!
BenSlashesDecember 28, 2013
my favorite is the original 54. my other favorites are godzilla 84, godzilla biollante, Godzilla vs King ghidorah and GMK.
Final wars is cool too but there are to many science fiction, alien, matrix things.
