However, I pulled up a deleted scene from the movie, and in it you see the family celebrating Andrew's birthday with a cake. I paused the video and counted the number of candles, and it is very clear to see that there are 12 candles on the cake. I believe that this was his last birthday before the 2014 attack, so he must have been 12 years old when it happened. I hope your fan rewrite turns out good!
