MemberMothra LarvaeOct-09-2018 10:33 AMHey, everyone! Long time lurker, but I just finally was able to sign up for an account. For some reason, I kept having issues creating a Scified.com account.
That said, I've been prepping to go through the series and not just dissect the themes of the movies (Kalat has already done a great job of this, among others), but look at them from a largely theological/ethical perspective. My plan, initially, is to just make a blog article about each movie, then collect the thoughts and do research accordingly. And I'd love to find a good Facebook group, or avenue, where I could bounce some ideas off people who are genuinely, passionately invested in the series. I've struggled to find any FB groups that aren't just....full of memes or bootlegs of movies. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm hesitant to join any forums, simply because of how time consuming they can be! (Rabbit holes and such)
Reddit has been suggested, but I also like the more private nature of Facebook groups, whereas Reddit is, if I remember correctly, largely public and viewable by anyone.

A little delayed on the posts, but thought I'd share.

To answer the original question you're going to be hard pressed to find many intelligent Facebook groups out there with these discussions. Toku Legion is probably the only one I can recommend. The others are typically too large and have a surplus of casual fans only interested in viewing the series as guilty pleasures. While others are too small and dedicate themselves to a younger crowd more interested in theorizing over fantasy monster battles.
Forum-wise I would recommend Monster Zero on ScifiJapan.com, but it's been a lot slower these days. It's a little too elitist for some, but I get called out for that too--Whatever.
The ideas you're tossing around are certainly fascinating. What kind of theological perspective are you looking for?

MemberMothra LarvaeOct-23-2018 7:30 PMGman,
No worries! I just figured if it interested people, great! If not, then I'll have fun doing this in the process.
That being said, it's definitely from a Judeo-Christian framework, but I've seen a lot already, between GMK and even Mothra vs. Godzilla. The idea of self-sacrifice/atonement, forgiveness, theodicy (the problem of evil)... I figure going through each movie, I'll pick up some common themes and then go from there.
And I've noticed what you're mentioning here in Facebook groups, although I did whittle it down to one. There has been some decent conversations here and there; although I did manage to frustrate a lot of people when I called out the hypocrisy of hating G14 for certain things, while giving the Showa/Heisei/Millennium movies a free pass. :)
