Is this for real!? O.o
And if yes... Holy s***! Godzilla looks scary as hell! Its a really awesome design!

????!!!!!!
Excuse me, but I find this just plain horrible!!! I knew they said the design should be based in the original 1954 and indeed it is, but it could be much better. Those silly microscopic eyes and that big mouth make him to look cartoonish for my taste, like a mix of Critters and something coming from Adventure time!!
My least favorite design was the evil looking GMK... but this easily takes its place :X
I found the mixed 54/GMK west kenji model kit much more appropriate for the concept

i dont know. ive got faith in this movie and i dont want to judge it too harshly yet

@Gojira19,
Then you sir must not understand how dangerous the effects are of radiation. Look at his face. See it? Those are tumors. Google radiation victims and tell me what you see. Who on earth said Godzilla had to look pretty? Godzilla is after all a victim of the atomic bomb which by the way releases deadly amounts of radiation. As for the head proportion, looks very spot on with the 54' original. Yet, I have a feeling you and others will really hate the rest of the body.
If GorillaGodzilla sees this, G14 is smaller. This Godzilla has been confirmed at 118.5 meters. Just shy of 120 meters or 394 feet.

This is the creepiest thing I have ever seen. GMK's design was better than this. God if you guys had any complaints on G 14, this easily tops all of them. It doesn't even look like Godzilla. And Ben you just like this cause it's made in Godzilla's home country, nothing wrong with that.
If this was an American Godzilla, all of you would be in uproar.
Good grief.

"And Ben you just like this because it's made in Godzilla's home country. Nothing wrong with that."
Christ almighty GorillaGodzilla. Look up on Google images "radiation victims "and tell me what you see. Do it...I beg you.
You don't seem to understand how hazardous radiation is and what it does to whoever is exposed to it. Godzilla is a victim of the atomic bomb GorillaGodzilla. No one on God's green earth said he had to look pretty. If you're unaware, radiation causes cancer, tumors, deformed skin, burns like beyond 3rd degree burns, mutated skin. This is what this Godzilla represents.
Ugly, yes. Handsome? Hell no. Terrifying? Yes.

LOPSQUID - This is extremely exciting! I greatly enjoy this new design - mostly because it calls directly back to the original Gojia! I have a feeling that this incarnation of Godzilla will be quite amazing in appearance when we see him fully in action! :)

I rather like it! Clearly heavily inspired by the original G'54 suit, but going the horror route. Most Godzilla designs have been stoic and majestic, but this hamburger-headed monster looks like a NASTY piece of work!
I definitely don't see this thing defending mankind from alien invaders. Maybe EATING the alien invaders, but it wouldn't be for our benefit.

Apparently, Gojira has downs … waiting for a better picture of him, but so far i really dislike this faceshot.

Shin-Goji does look like Godzilla precisely because he looks like a creature exposed to nuclear weapons testing. This is what Godzilla is: a monster mutilated by the power of the atom; not a handsome, quasi-superhero who happens to be reptillain in nature.
Many of the issues attendant to the introduction and use of nuclear weapons can be brought to the forefront and examined because of this monster, made so by the choices made by human beings who misused science and the energy they developed.
This Godzilla looks horrifying, but hurt and in pain at the same time. This is evocative of the 1954 film and the look and feel of that film's atmosphere.
For me, the design fits what I hope and anticipate the film being like.
I love how he looks like a burn victim. No lips, no eye-lids, like his flesh was melted away and healed as best it could. It's appropriate if they're going for the horrific tone, and still very reminiscent of the '54 design. Yeah, the eyes could be a bit bigger, but this is just artwork after all.
And yes, I do all ready like it more than G'14.

WOLFGUY - You are absolutely right! He looks as if he was exposed to an intense heat source that precluded his tissue from healing properly! The facial structure almost reminds me of a bear's skull combined with a vulture; very fantastic! :)

I can not readily tell from the art provided, but it seems as if his ears have also been burned away!

"I love how he looks like a burn victim. No lips, no eye-lids, like his flesh was melted away and healed as best it could." Very well put by wolfguy.
Yes; he looks like a victim, made into something that he was not. But now, terrifying and awesome, a personification of the destructive power that made him a monster, a kaiju, and therefore not totally comprehensible.

JAMAAL - I am really curious to know what this Godzilla's personality is going to be like! By his look, he might possess an unfeeling and completely alien mindframe that will serve to make him uniquely unsettling! :)

the only problem that I had with this design is the eyes, they look like googly eyes.
Therizinosaurus for JW2!

SOMETHING REAL- Well concidering how utterly terrifying this Godzilla looks I can only guess that he is going to be very angry and very cruel
Godzilla... Truly a God incarnate.

I imagine one of his attacks will look like the first scene of the Titans' arrival in Attack on Titan. While I didn't particularly like that film, I felt that sequence was very effective. This unfeeling creature just moving through the city, burning it away with his mere presence.
Also, just imagine an updated version of the hospital scene in G'54. I don't think they'll go full on 'R' rating, but you can get away with quite a bit in a PG-13 film. I hope they update and use "Prayer for Peace." I've been wanting a new rendition of that piece.

Seeing it again, it isn't half bad. I mean, it fits the horror tone, since that's what they're going for Idk. Also Ben, yes I do know about the damage radiation can cause, and this Godzilla surely shows it.
Let's start a new name for this Goji, Devilzilla. It's no longer majestic and Godly, he has lost all of that, and is now, demonic to say the least xD.
#Devilzilla
Good grief.
I like it! He looks ugly as sin and mad as hell! This Godzilla should be squishing people underfoot and leaving cities in radioactive rubble, NOT punching out other giant monsters.

@GorillaGodzilla
#Devilzilla
Therizinosaurus for JW2!

WOLFGUY - I agree. An updated version of "Prayer for Peace" would be extremely moving! If it is performed by a group with skill comprable to that of the London Syphony Orchestra, that would be exceptionally marvelous! :)

"It doesn't even look like Godzilla."
This just in, the original intended concept art for Godzilla updated for 2016 doesn't even look like Godzilla:

I was wondering who was going to have the goofiest comment. Amazing it didn't take long to find.

GMAN2887 - Oh, wow! The similarities between the two images you have provided are quite striking! Hmm...I wonder what this new Godzilla's hands will look like. The suspense is almost too much for me to bear! Ugh! :)
While I do agree the head mold looks like it was taken directly from the original concept, the model itself was, putting it lightly, very disproportionate. I hope they stick closer to the '54 suit mold and not the sculpt.

^I think the updates to the initial concept so far alleviate any fears of overt disproportions--Unless of course they somehow add to the sort of warped, crazed look this Godzilla has.

Jamaal,
You have endlessly typed the best, most elogent quotes on this forum about this film, the character, tokusatsu and the genre as a whole. Stop being selfish and let other people have a turn.
*tweets Jamaal's quote*
From all the other versions, you get that Godzilla was a powerful dinosaur-esque creature, simply awakened or changed by the nuclear testing. G'14, he's the awakened leviathan brought to the surface. Heisei, he's a mutated dinosaur grown to incredible proportions and power.
This Godzilla is the first that looks truly mutilated and haunted by the blast. I honestly can't stop looking at the photo. As if, taking it a bit to the extreme here, this was once a beautiful creature, perhaps even covered in plummage as it's being discovered of dinosaurs today. But then hit by an atomic blast, flesh and sinew burnt away, ashen and scarred and forever in pain.
It's just promotional art, but I see so much in it. No eye-lids, no lips, no true nose or ears... just burnt away holes in a loosely flesh and tumor covered skull. I've seen similar photos of true events and people, some still living to this day, and you can tell exactly what this is going for. It's haunting.

"JAMAAL - I am really curious to know what this Godzilla's personality is going to be like! By his look, he might possess an unfeeling and completely alien mindframe that will serve to make him uniquely unsettling! :)"
SOMETHING REAL: To me, this is just as important as the look of the design: how Godzilla is portrayed. Without being overly anthropomorphic, Godzilla should clearly be more than just an animal acting on instinct. He's a symbol as well as an actual creature. If lessons are going to be administered, Godzilla needs to be purposeful in a way that makes this plain. A film with a layered narrative will have more to offer to non-fans because it will have a broader appeal. It obvious that Godzilla is adversarial in this story: "Nippon vs. Godzilla." This raises questions, questions that demand to be answered if the story is going to be interesting. Why does he attack? Why now? What made him into "Godzilla?" There's a lot to be mined here if approached with creativety and imagination.

GMAN2887 - Do you remember that monstrous-looking rendition of Rodan that was presented as potential Legendary concept art? The one that had a look similar to a corpse? I could envision this Godzilla tearing that beastly thing apart! It would be fitting! Additionally, I certainly hope that the rest of this new Godzilla's form is as warped as his visage! If there is one thing that we must all understand it is this: Godzilla has evolved over the course of the decades to mirror mankind's culture and the state of our world. The real monsters of Earth and the horrors they bring have never been more visible. Why, then, should this new Godzilla not wear the face of today's world?

WOLFGUY - You know, I never once considered what the creature would have looked like prior to its present appearance? That is an extremely compelling notion! Thank you so very much for presenting this viewpoint! :)

Sorry. ;) Since seeing today's reveal, I've been overcome by relief at the design as well as hope for the film realizing a great, overwhelming and spectacular vision for Godzilla. Part of this joy is result of seeing what the filmmakers have said and done so far. And that they 'get it.' Toho is really going about this the right way, it seems. There's a lot riding on this film, tradition wise. The anticipation for news has been fun and unsettling at the same time. Then, today, there he was! Wow!. I can kind of relax now and enjoy the ride because today's reveal was about what I hoped for.
Today's look at Godzilla means a lot.
calm down guys.its just a concept poster but not the exact design of godzilla.just wait for the teaser which will be released in the month of jan(last week).they are going to show some exact footage of BigG in that teaser. And that is going to be bit different from this design.

^You're mistaken. This is not only the design, but the animatronic puppet being used for the majority of the film.
