MemberMothra LarvaeJul-30-2015 11:51 AMI saw a thread about "The Superior Godzilla" and it inspired me to start this topic. In case it isn't clear which which Godzilla I'm talking about (I normally don't like unnecessary or unclear abbreviations, but I didn't want the title to be too long), it's this one, the one from Godzilla: The Series (Zilla Jr.).
Even recently, I've gotten comments about how he's too weak to stand up to the more popular incarnations of the character, but is he really?
Some notable feats:
*Smashed an underwater mountain to rubble in one blow
*Plugged up a volcano with his atomic breath in a matter of seconds
*KO'ed by human missiles in an early episode but goes on to tank worse with little or no harm in later episodes (Quetzalcoatl's fireballs, alien energy missiles that could harm kaiju invulnerable to human missiles, massive explosion from exploding oil refinery, Lizard Slayer missiles, Fire Monster's fireballs), showing an increase in durability
*Survived a blast from 12 alien laser cannons at once, each of which had the power to vaporize a city block and kill other kaiju in 1-2 shots
*Fought hand-to-hand against a monster made of fire hotter than magma without getting burned, even tail-whipping one of its fireballs from point-blank range
*Atomic breath created warm front strong enough to create a hurricane-like superstorm
*Regenerated from having his insides melted by acidic poison in just a few seconds once the toxin was removed
NOTE: I get a lot of comments saying Jr. is fragile because he gets KO'ed a lot throughout the series. In actuality, he gets KO'ed by only about 1/3 of the kaiju he faces, and out of that third, half were through not-so-legitimate means such as poison. In total, 21 kaiju did NOT knock him unconscious at any point in their episodes as opposed to 11 that did, and only 5 of those KOs were "fair."
So, how does Zilla Jr. stack up compared to the rest?

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-30-2015 12:14 PMZilla Jr. is a pretty resilient kaiju in his own right. Now, we don't know and probably never will know how he stack up to Godzilla, unless Toho decides to do a crossover between the two (Which has basically no chance of happening).
However, in my opinion, Zilla Jr. would probably give some incarnations of the Big G a hard time, i.e. Some Showa incarnations, and a few Millenium versions as well. Heisei and FW are a different story. They're nearly twice as tall, and have fought tougher foes. Sad to say, Junior would get obliterated. But lets forget about them fighting, those two are obviously more suited to battling alongside eachother.
Be yourself, for everyone else is taken.

He may not be able to measure up against the top tier of Godzilla iterations like Heisei or Final Wars, but he'd give similarly sized versions a good bout.
I especially like the idea of a team-up. Strength and speed working together. A deadly combo, similar to the M.U.T.O.s, actually. The male was the agile fast one that served to distract and disorient, whilst the female was the muscle, providing the bulk of the damage with the male keeping their opponent off guard.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-30-2015 3:09 PMWeird, I've been told that Showa Godzilla, if scaled, is one of the strongest incarnations of Godzilla, but unscaled, yeah, it's just not a fair fight. A team-up would be awesome, though. I desperately want a movie that involves Zilla and Godzilla teaming up to face a bigger foe.

The King of the Monsters
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-30-2015 3:41 PM^ IDW recently had Godzilla and Zilla team up against common foes in Rulers of Earth, but I don't know if something like that is in the cards for a movie. I really don't see Zilla making another film appearance unless it's a Destroy All Monsters/Final Wars-style film with tons of monsters. But in video games and comics right now, anything can happen.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-30-2015 3:48 PM^ Zilla didn't team up with Godzilla directly in that comic. He showed up for the brawl at the end that featured most of the comic's monsters and got two quick kills. It wasn't so much a team-up with Godzilla as it was everyone on one side vs. everyone on the other side.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-30-2015 3:50 PMHe was still back-to-back with Godzilla and the other monsters in the battle. It wasn't a two-monster tag-team teamup, but it was still the first time Godzilla and Zilla fought on the same side ever. It was similar to the final battle in Destroy All Monsters with all of the monsters against King Ghidorah, with Zilla being one of the monsters most directly involved.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-30-2015 5:07 PMi really do like zilla jr. and he did fight godzilla in idw comics and it wasnt really a bad fight either. was pretty even until godzilla got the upper hand

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-30-2015 5:21 PM^ It was Zilla who fought Godzilla, not Zilla Jr.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-31-2015 8:13 AM^ That was nice. I have an account on the Toho Kingdom Forums but I don't really pay attention to those. Still, if Zilla were to come back, I would prefer he have the strength to back up his agility rather than be limited to a pure stealth character. More King Caesar, less sidekick-Anguirus.

MemberGiganJul-31-2015 5:50 PMHe's pretty good, definately better than his mother. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a future movie.
What I'm wondering is how he got the Atomic Breath.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-31-2015 9:01 PMFrom what I've read, he got his atomic breath from the creators of the show standing up to Dean Devlin after Devlin tried to take away the cartoon Godzilla's atomic breath and said something along the lines of "Godzilla's always had an atomic breath, and so will ours."
Show-wise, there's no explanation. He just has more powers than his parent.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2015 5:03 PMI contributed to Zilla Jr.'s VS Battle Wiki. After showing his feats and stats to the admin, the page was edited from nearly empty to this, and the admin gave him a Tier of 8-A (highest level of Tier 8, which is Multi-City Block level of power/durability) to possibly 7-B (middle of Tier 7, which is City level of power/durability).
That puts him at below-average to average on the scale of Godzillas, but that's unscaled and taking into account the outlier that's Heisei Godzilla, who was given planetary to solar system-level power thanks in part to some questionable assumptions about SpaceGodzilla.
Basically, Jr. would be somewhere in the middle according to this tier list (most Godzillas are Tier 8-7 with a couple of 6s and Heisei Godzilla being a ridiculous outlier).
