GORMARU ISLAND TALKS: Why Is There So Much Negativity In What I Love or Within Groups I Invest Myself Into?
Whoa, quite the question, but an interesting one! -Donnie
If you're a fan of anything, be it Godzilla, Kaiju, Videogames, Comics, Anime, or anything at all. Chances are you've sought a place where you can connect with other people like yourself, who embrace the same passion as you do. But ...within the past decade or so, you've noticed that the places you've enjoyed have been becoming less welcoming, and becoming more, and more unfriendly.
Opinions clash, flame wars blaze, indifference and intolerance of nearly everything spills over into either hating or bullying, and then what are you left with? Negativity. -Gormaru
It's no secret that negativity has plagued fans and fan groups, and it's sad when you see so many casualties of it. Fans no longer want to hang around, stability is tossed out the window, and even though you're fans, it would seem most of the time, no one respects any mutual understanding or differences between each other. Everything just rots and erodes away. And no one wants to stay in a land of ruin.
Using the Kaiju Genre for example, there are people who enjoy certain Godzilla films or Godzilla suits over the popular choices deemed by the fanbase community, those specific fans shouldn't be condemned for their choices. Same goes for anyone who enjoys Godzilla 1998 or Zilla, their favor should not be looked down upon. This also includes those who enjoy and are fans of Kaiju Girls. No one should be mistreated based upon their passions, and their interests shouldn't be judged either. -Soundwave
As to why there is so much negativity? There are numerous of reasons as to why:
1. Sometimes people are just downers because they are the product of what the world and society has become. People absorb the nature of their environment like sponges, if the water's bad, they aren't going to turn out well either. Even if they were taught to be a better person, most likely they aren't going to be, either they are just too pessimistic to change or they are too cynical to be anything better. -STEGZ
2. Certain people can't embrace the differences of others, if it conflicts against their own interests, tastes, values, opinions, or anything else about them, then they will either detest that person, or hate em. These people speak about being fair and tolerant, but are usually quick to flip the switch. -Donnie
3. The Internet while not a bad place, can be a cesspool full of trolls, intolerance, bullying, and general negativity all because of anonymous protection behind a computer screen. So people just act out their worst simply because they can and don't care about the environment they affect around them. -Soundwave
All of these can factor to the bad apples and qualities within a fan group, or any fanbase that has gone sour. There's no way to get rid of negativity from your passions, it can only be stabilized with order and direction. But most importantly, through positive atmosphere, mutually peaceful environments, and by deciding for yourself on how to deal with it! That's what places like Gormaru Island and many others strive for. To be a safe haven from all the negativity, to be a place of peace and enjoyment! -Gormaru
If you want to survive negativity and escape it all you need to do is
express your passions, and embrace each other's difference. Don't spread the negativity, and don't become a product of it either. If you're in a bad environment, don't stay within its ruin and conflict, leave it!! Find a better place, with a greater stability! Negativity will always be there, but it doesn't mean that you have to be stuck with its company
