Would Godzilla vs The Gryphon would have been successful if it was directed by Gareth Edwards?

There is only one problem with this idea. The Gryphon is a really cool monster, but the plot is very similiar to Gamera Guardian of the Universe. This is assuming that Godzilla was created by an ancient civilization just like in the Godzilla vs the Gryhphon script.

You want alot, I get it all of us want alot of something like godzilla, but this too much. Beside it sounds alot like the gamera guardian of the universe they could have gone away with something like this in 1994 but this it 2014 and in all honestly it makes godzilla sound like a hero, godzilla ain't no hero.

I think saying any movie "should have been" a certain way is a trite example of fanboy wishes and such drastic changes look like fan faction instead of serious revisions. It's like saying, "This is how Gravity should have been," and then writing a treatment about Sandra Bullock fighting aliens over Earth's stratosphere. That's clearly not the kind of movie they wanted to make. Same goes for Godzilla.

In the case of Godzilla, however, if one movie doesn't float your boat you have twenty-nine other films to his name you can find to your liking. (And six of those include the Heisei design, four of those include variations on the Millennium design and twenty-seven include Godzilla fighting other monsters.) Some of the complaints over the new film stem from what kind of Godzilla movie fans prefer and while that's understandable it's no more a flaw than someone liking Godzilla vs. Gigan over Godzilla 1985. If Godzilla 2014 wasn't your cup of tea there are plenty of other takes and Godzilla adventures to choose from.

I like the movie how it is. I don't think much (if anything) needed to be changed.

This movie didn't "need" to be anything. The director made it the way he wanted it. It is what it is. Besides at least it was Godzilla.

Most people know this already, but I'm a brutally honest person. If you are asking us what we think and expecting sugar coated answers and PCP, then you won't find it here. So, with that out of the way, this is me speaking from a perfectly honest standpoint: I give it a 1/10, maybe a 2/10 depending on how some of the many questions I have are answered (if they're answered at all).

The primary reason for the low rating is because there's no originality in it at all, and the secondary reason is because you clearly didn't give it much thought. You just took a few elements from different Godzilla movies as well as one or two other old school monster movie ideas and traditions to create this little list of "plot" points that really have nothing to do with one another and don't go anywhere in relation to one another in any kind of meaningful way. As a writer, reading this made me roll my eyes. Especially taking into consideration you think this is how Godzilla 2014 "should have been."

So here's my breakdown of the ideas one at a time to explain my rating and ask the first few questions in response to your provided information.

1) "Godzilla emerges in 2004."

- Why 2004? What happened in 2004 to wake him and why? Was he even awoken or was he just there and not moving for god knows how long? Where was he awoken from? Was it a nuclear thing, an environmental thing, humans encroaching on his resting place kind of thing... What was it?

2) 10 years later he surfaces again.

- Why? What about 2014 causes him to come around again? Was it a nuclear thing, an environmental thing, humans encroaching on his resting place kind of thing... What was it?

3) Alien probes come to Earth and land in Texas.

- Does this happen before or after his awakening in 2014, and why? What do the aliens want? Is it to destroy our world? Because if it is, why bother landing in the first place? Why not destroy it from space? Is it to colonize our world? Is it just to eliminate us because the human race is just that important? Also, why Texas? Is it because there's a lot of space? Last I checked that was not a major requirement for alien landings.

4) Godzilla goes to Los Angeles and start causing destruction.

- Why LA? What's there that he could possibly want? A nuclear facility? Because if that's your answer then you'll have to create a fictional nuclear facility because the US only has two in California and they're both in Diablo Canyon, a solid distance away from LA. So what else could be there that he wants?

5) He get put to sleep by cadmium shells.

- Ripping off of Return of Godzilla, otherwise known as Godzilla 1985. A complete lack of originality not counting the fact that it's a theoretical solution. There's nothing to say that such a method would work on this version of Godzilla from 2014. He uses radiation as a food source, not a power source. There is a BIG difference in that single fact. Since he's not using radiation as a power source, cadmium would do absolutely nothing to his metabolism or biological functions. It'd be a waste of time.

6) He get lifted to Louisiana for experiment.

- You have a plan for lifting a 90,000 ton reptile?

Even our strongest planes and helicopters designed specifically for the task could not move such weight, let alone across such distances as LA to Louisiana. And why Louisiana? What is there that could possibly be of use to anyone regarding Godzilla? Is it just because you live there and wanted to include your home state in the story somewhere or is there a real reason as to why he's there? As far as I know, Louisiana has nothing to offer a Godzilla story save to be used as cannon fodder for when he wakes up and trashes it on his way to Florida later on.

7) Aaron, Serizawa, and Ford investigate incident in Texas farm.

- What farm? Where did the farm come from? Why a farm? Who owns it? Is it because crop circles are most closely related to farms? Also, what does the investigation yield? I've read ahead and your aliens just disappear into nothing. Are they for a sequel idea? If so, why not say that? Why not at least give us a hint as to why they're even here? Right now they serve absolutely no known purpose save to draw our attention to Texas temporarily before they become completely irrelevant.

8) The Gryphon is in full form and causing destruction.

- Where did a Gryhon come from? Why is it "in full form?" Last I checked the Gryphon has only one form in traditional mythology, so what were its first form(s) like and when did they make an appearance and why? Was it the aliens? If so, that's kind of an important detail to include and right now we're sitting here wondering why is a creature the the head of a bird of prey, wings, and a horse-like body growing to a size capable of taking on Godzilla? Is it even like the one we know about from mythology, or is it something new? If it's new, what does it look like? Where did it come from and why is it part of this story? What is its history and biology? How does it live, feed, and grow?

9) Godzilla awakes and head for Florida.

How does he wake up? Electrical storm? because that wouldn't help him. It was a detail in the 1984 movie that ran off the idea that Godzilla could draw electrical power into his body through his spines. Does this one have the same capacity? If so, why? Also, Godzilla wakes up and heads to Florida becaaaaaause... Why? What's in Florida? The Gryphon is somewhere that we don't even know of yet as you never gave a location for its path of destruction. Is Godzilla going there there for the sun and surf? You need to tell us why he's going there before he goes there, not after. I know he's going to fight the Gryphon, but that was never stated before hand so we're all scratching our heads right now.

10) Godzilla and the Gryphon have a battle in Miami.

There you go! But when did the Gryphon get there and how did it get there? If it's not the Gryphon we know, does it fly, tunnel, run, swim? If it is the one from mythology, but supersized, then you're just being unoriginal again. Also, how did it reach such a size as to take on Godzilla?

11) Godzilla loses first but manage to kill the Gryphon later.

- Classic reversal of power, but how does Godzilla overcome the enemy? If he's losing, what changes the course of battle? Does Godzilla get a sudden influx of power? If so, from where, why, and how? Radiation doesn't just do what you want it to, and again this Godzilla consumes radiation as a food supply, not a power source so a dose of nuclear power won't make him stronger. That's a classic misunderstanding on the part of a lot of G fans as to how this new Godzilla functions. So how does it work this time? If it's not a power influx, how could he possibly win against a foe that dominates the battle? Red spiral ray? If so, say so. If not, then how? There has to be a reason for Godzilla to win other than "he's Godzilla."

12) Godzilla roar in victory and goes back into the ocean.

- Why is this even a detail? It's kind of implied that Godzilla is the type to roar in victory as he does so in most of his movies when he wins a fight. And what happened to the aliens? How do they factor into this? Were they just random probes for the sake of being probes and playing to alien fan boys and conspiracy theorists? Is the Gryphon an alien watch dog/attack dog or is it an Earth monster?

That's why I think this deserves a 1/10, 2/10 at best. There's little to no originality in it and there are so many unanswered questions and plot holes that I do not believe you could seriously think in any way that this qualifies "how Godzilla 2014 should have been." Your aliens go nowhere, your Gryphon is a random monster from Earth mythology, and Godzilla goes all over the place with no rhyme or reason whatsoever, and overall your idea just doesn't make any sense. If you're going to write a story, at least make it sound like you know what you're talking about first to give your idea some credibility. Right now it's a jumbled mess.

You could have provided us with a link to the script of the movie and this was the original idea for the 1998 film. The full plot, in detail, is on Wikizilla. Here is the link to the page.

It's funny because this discussion proves fans can't "do it better", ever.
