Just want to say.. of the bat that Godzilla (2014) right now isn't Successful. Everyone is like Godzilla (2014) is a big hit and now we are getting a Sequel! But techically Godzilla (2014) isnt a hit. it was a big hit opening Week... but not a hit overall. Godzilla needs to double its money to make a profit. Legendary CEO Thomas Tull was said that they needed around 400 Million to actually be very successfull finacially. Now the Money Godzilla (2014) has earned ia 216,000,000 Million Dollars. It will slowly start to climb up because of it release already past away. now X-men Comes out tomorrow which will not help Godzilla (2014).But probably make some decent money for the total Grossing. Yes Godzilla (2014) is in development but the Stuidos can always change their mind because of the total box office results when the movie is not shown in theaters anymore. But Good thing is that Japan & China haven't released the Godzilla movie and is heavily marketed in China. Plus... TOHO said they have smart Market plan to release the movie when they want to. Remember Thomas Tull says that China Helps in big way in their marketing and making money. Just like they helped get alot of money from China. With TOHO announces that some many people are excited for Godzilla in japan is great news. Who Knows that Godzilla will be a success or not? -Joshua Hopkins

Godzilla was very much a success. It blew every estimate out of the water (remember, original estimates put it at 60 million). It put out super-hero movie numbers on 80% of a super-hero budget. thats before we even get to future blu-Ray/DVD sales. Not to mention toys and other merchandise. Trust me, Legendary is loving the Big Guy right now.

Considering Legendary has announced a sequel and the film has yet to even reach the Asian market says enough. This film is successful and isn't even halfway finished yet.

Pointless. A sequel is already in the works. True G fans raved at the theaters. My own expectations were blown away even though the movie is far from perfect. Numbers. The box office got stomped, everyone claiming the film would flop got stomped, and anyone thinking the second film won't stomp like this one did gets stomped. Basic math. Gareth wins, so he wins...

It made over $200 million in a week, and still hasn't come out in two markets that I expect it to hit huge in. Yeah to say unsuccessful is kind of a joke.

Actually we gotta wait 2 more months cuz it comes out in July for Japan, which means this movie will be a humongous hit by the time it stops playing in theaters with all the overall money it made

So a film earning almost ALL OF IT'S BUDGET is unsuccessful. The film costs 160 Million$ and it made 93.2 million$ on IT'S OPENING WEEKEND.

JOSHUAHOPKINS - I wouldn't worry over much about Godzilla 2014's success just yet. There's still plenty of time for it to earn quite a bit more revinue! Once it becomes released over seas to China and Japan, it will very likely pull in an absolutely immense take at the box-office! Chin up! :)

@GOJIHUNTER14

Movies must recoup their budget, plus the marketing and distribution cost.  And remember the theatre gets a good percentage, too.  So a movie like Godzilla, with a budget of about $160 million, needs to make about $450 million before it breaks even.

The reason why they have already announced a sequel is because the studios have already calculated that Godzilla will bring in about $650-$700 million dollars.  Thats' a profit for Legendary and Warner Bros of around $150 million once the theatres take their cut.

So even though it still hasn't made its production cost, it most surely will, and then a lot more.

Thomas Tull already confirmed the movie must make $380 million (worldwide) to break even.

@GMAN2887

I read where Thomas Tull said that the movie needed to make $450 million to break even.  Here is the article:  http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/legendarys-thomas-tull-talks-godzilla-700348
