MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-12-2014 10:37 PMWill movie goers fear or laugh at Godzilla? during the film.
since there were a bit of giggling and snikering during the trailer, I have a feeling that there will be some during the film.
My bet is that people will be laughing at first when the character appears at the begining, but once Godzilla kills a couple of people in the film, I have a high feeling that people will begin to fear him as it goes on till the end.
Get what I mean? if you dont tell me so iupdate.

MemberBaragonFeb-12-2014 11:04 PMI doubt the people who laughed during the trialer will be in the group of people to go see the movie. Who would waste money on a movie they thought looked dumb? There's no way I'd go see a movie I wouldn't take seriously or thought was dumb unless it's for a date, and this doesn't really look like the ideal date movie to me.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-12-2014 11:39 PM'Fear' of Godzilla is just a fantasy really at this point and only was a reality when his first film, Gojira, came out. Now a days, everyone knows that Godzilla is not real and that he never could be in any way except the metaphorical. Nobody is truly afraid of Godzilla today. His name is too well known and his past movies and toys create too much of what you might call an understanding between the fans and the Big-G himself to cause fear.
Admiration, yes. Inspiration, yes. Entertainment, yes.
Fear, not so much.
As for laughs, there might be a few here and there. However, in a movie like this, you need to have at least a little levity here and there. Even if it's as small as a few one liners to relieve some tension, it's necessary sometimes. When a movie's tone is mono throughout the entire thing, it gets boring no matter how cool the action might be. The story goes stale and the 'fear' and 'tension' die away prematurely. However nobody will be laughing at the Big-G for the sake of laughing at him. They might laugh out of awe and start going "that was badass" under their breath when their laughter dies away, but nobody who laughs is going to do so AT the Big-G, just for the awesomeness he creates.
I know I've laughed a few times in theaters during action moments, but it wasn't at what was happening, it was with it.
But back to the primary point, nobody is truly scared of Godzilla anymore. His own fame work against him in that respect. Not a single person will leave the theater wanting to pee their pants unless it's nature taking its course and they have to go purely for the sake of going.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-17-2014 11:23 AM@Kyero. I think you're connecting this movie too much with Toho's. When I saw the teaser trailer in front of the Hobbit, no body laughed. Nobody even talked, there was just silence. That was strange, because just before that everyone had been talking up a storm. Godzilla literally silenced the theater. The Captain America trailer came on right after that, and everyone almost immediately started talking again. After a reaction like that, I can't see how people wouldn't take this movie seriously.
Fear Godzilla? I think so. I'm expecting to fear him. Legendary is not creating an American Godzilla; they are creating what Gareth believes the 1954 Godzilla should have been (from the Empire Magazine interview). Even in the trailer, you don't realize you're watching a Godzilla trailer untill you actually see him almost half-way through. Some people even miss that! Legendary appears to be truly rebooting him; literally erasing everything about him and recreating what Toho created back in '54. Based on the trailer, we are not watching the Godzilla we know and love. We are watching an uncontrollable force devastate and destroy. It's dark. It's suspenseful. And it's scary.
You can't really say that because people know Godzilla is fake, they can't fear him. You can't say that because he has some laughable movies, people can't fear him. Because Batman is certainly fake. He has had some incredibly laughable movies. But can you sit here and tell me that Batman didn't scare anyone in Batman Begins? I know I thought he was scary!
