I've been wondering this for a while and nobody else brought it up, but does anyone think that this Godzilla will be able to use Hs atomic breath underwater in any shape or form in the new movie.  We've seen him use it before in other films but we don't even know for sure how the breath will function in this movie let alone it's full capabilities.

What do you guys think or want as far as this subject is concerned for this movie?!?

This is a really good question, I do believe using his atomic breath underwater should affect the way it goes so lets see idk;

Shooting a nuclear atomic beam underwater hmmm maybe the breath gets a bit faded or spreads a bit maybe? Idk just what I kinda think

Didn't this happen at the end of GMK?  It's been a while since I last watched it so i can't say for sure, but I think it may have.

Really interesting question. I don't think we'll see a straight blue beam of light from Godzilla in this movie, like in previous films. I think it'll be less visible and more widespread - as if he's letting off "charges" of radiation. That being said, I'm not sure how radiation projects underwater - I'd have to look it up. But it will be neat to see how they address it (if they do) in the film.

PS. I fixed the typo in your topic title. ;)

Gareth Edwards said the atomic breath would be treated differently in the upcoming film. I wonder what he means by that. I presume, with them taking the realistic approach, that it won't be a beam of atomic energy but then..what? I think it may simply be an intense roar/projection which has the effect of an atomic blast on anything in its path? I'm picturing palm trees being bent double, buildings being ripped from their foundations etc (like in those black n white atomic bomb test videos). WIth that in mind there's no reason it wouldn't work under water but to be honest i doubt we'll see it.

Why not, we seened it in Godzilla Vs Mothra 1992 when Battra was fighting Godzilla under water. I could see it happening in this movie.

I mean, I'm not sure if this is more 'realistic' but it would be kinda cool/different if maybe it was like 'shouting' from Skyrim.

Godzilla be all like:

I think he can use his breath underwater, but I don't think he will.

@Druzilla54, I've heard that Edwards wanted to give the breath a realistic makeover, but I honestly doubt he changed that much.  While it will be different, I'm convinced that it will still be the standard beam of complete destruction.  Especially after Zilla's poor excuse for a breath attack (you know, exploding cars instead of actually breathing fire), I doubt that he would chance anything extreme.  I think he will want fans to clearly recongnize it as his signature attack.  I see it as a very bright beam, that instantly destroys whatever it touches with a combination of vaporizing, melting, and exploding the target.  Almost like a superintense lightbeam.  Gareth made a huge point in his interview to say that this is not Godzilla 2014, this is what Gojira 1954 should have been.  And Gojira's original atomic breath destroyed everything!

Going into what it would look like underwater, I would think it's going to look very much the same.  The thing is, because it's underwater, the heat released from the beam and his spikes would instantly boil the water around them.  Come to think of it, perhaps Godzilla's whole body would have a similar effect whenever he was underwater because of his own body heat.  That would certainly look cool...
