MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 7:16 AMThis is tough. For our purposes, let's say Feb 7th is the day it comes out. because this movie is going to be very dark and scary, and the Lego Movie is a children's movie, they might not attach it with one another. Maybe Vampire Academy or Monuments Men. However, with the Lego Movie, parents will be taking their kids to see it; these are the people that grew up with Godzilla in his prime. So you have two very different demographics that you're trying to appeal to, children being the more prominent. I work at a theater and I work in the projection booths And I know the patterns With traile
What many people don't understand, is that the trailers are not directly attached to the movies themselves, the projectionist splices different trailers together based on the familiarity of the trailer content and the film content.
For instance, all of the projectors at my theater are connected to one computer. On this computer, I have to upload the movies via harddrive(yes all movies and trailers come in the forms of harddrives now, no more film cans/reels) I have a folder of trailers and a folder for movies On the computer. It is my job to think of the demographics to aim for when putting trailers in front of the movie. Sometimes, in the boxes that the movie harddrives are shipped in, there will be a note that has preferred trailers to put before the movie; whether it be another production from the same company or demographic targeting.
For instance , The Vampire Academy harddrive came in the other day and there was a note that said "Please put Divergent trailer during splicing" because it's another chick flick and also a book. So you have to look at it like that, really.
With Lego, I cant really see Godzilla grabbing a trailer spot over another kids movie. But I'll confirm if we do have a new trailer within the next couple of days for you guys because they always come in early. And if we do get the trailer in time for the Lwgo Movie, I'll definitely put it on the trailer lineup ;).
Trailers vary between theaters because you have one person for each theater like me who has to determine the best trailers to play and we obviously all don't think the same. On opening weekend of Hobbit, I was not in charge of the trailer splicing, and two of the six theaters that showed the Hobbit didn't show the Godzilla trailer because that person simply forgot to add it to those projection timelines. So again, it varies.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 7:22 AMThere is literally no way they will show godzilla before the lego movie. That lego movie will have kids 4,5,6,7 years old in there and this godzilla will scare the shit out of them. I would be pissed if my 7yr old saw that. She would have nighmares lol

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 9:37 AMYou know, when I went to see the Michael Bay Transformers movie back in 2007, I saw a Cloverfield trailer before the film.
The Transformers movie is aimed towards a wide demographic, children and adults alike, whilst Cloverfield is obviously an adult giant monster movie, so take that how you will in relation to the new Godzilla trailer...

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 10:15 AMnever knew it worked like this. you really have an awesome job. it would be really cool if you did this. i really think most kids would be like " oh my god mom can we see it?!" we give kids a little less credit than they deserve when it comes to being able to take a movie like this. i watched the lost world jurassic park when i was 4 and im okay. infact it got me into dinosaurs.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 10:54 AMI know this is just me but personally I saw Jurassic Park when I was 4 and my first Godzilla movie when I was 6... it does have a darker tone but considering how many little kids I see in every Hobbit movie/Avengers movie/Transformers movie that comes out I feel like it may not be as out of the demographic as you may think. Heck I saw the Patriot when I was 8 because my parents wanted me to have a better understanding of what war is. There will be obviously toys marketting the film to kids and heck, I remember when I was 6 that ID4 (Independence Day) was the coolest thing ever. Just throwing in my 2 cents... never underestimate what parents will let their children see.

GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 10:58 AMi watched soo many intense movies when i was a kid. i also saw jurassic park really early, i was probably like two the first time i saw it. i king of the monsters when i was just one, teh crazy thing is, it stuck with me so well that i still remember it almost 17 years later. so i don't think that all kids will be scared of a godzilla trailer, especially a trailer. of course there are even a few that were older kids that had nightmares over wallas and gromit LOL. if they had seen the new godzilla they would pee their pants. so this seems to be a really tough call to me.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 11:38 AM@DOGGIEZILLA lol I'm just saying it doesn't make sense from a marketing standpoint. Your going to see other animated kid friendly movies with The Lego Movie. Godzilla will most likely be attached to 300.

AdminGodzillaFeb-02-2014 11:52 AMJust because a trailer may be released online doesn't automatically mean it will be attached to a movie. The X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer wasn't attached to anything until a week or two after it came online.
It could be an internet exclusive trailer that won't be shipped to theaters until later. Which makes sense to capitalize on the other, shorter trailers being released online today during the Super Bowl.
Plus, if Godzilla is going to be advertised during the Olympics, it might be a trailer that will be used/spliced for that broadcast.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 12:23 PMI used to watch the first Jurassic Park almost every week and that's the reason, I love dinosaurs but, the only thing that scarred me for a while, was Gollum from LOTR. But, that didn't stop me from watching films oh, no! If a kid saw that trailer, they would say "Holy crap! That.... was.... AWESOME!" They watched the Avengers and no kid was scarred nor the Hobbit.
"By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people."

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 2:38 PMI wouldn't be surprsied if there was a trailer in front of the Lego Movie.
Speaking of the Avengers, there was a trailer for a Pixar movie and a Disney animated movie before it, there was also a trailer for Prometheus before it. Two fo those three went on to be PG rated and aimed at younger audiences. Prometheus went on to get a strong R rating.
I've seen plenty of kids movies have previews of strong PG-13 movies in front of them.
I've even seen some kids movies have R rated movies previewed in front of them! (That could be a lousy choice of the projector...choosing R rated advertisements in front of kids movies.)
It's not out of question.
And, the fact that both the Lego movie and Godzilla are both being distributed by Warner Bros. it really only makes sense in my honest opinion.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 3:40 PMPeople forget that children are Godzilla's target audience, no matter how serious the films are, at the end of the day, we all got into godzilla as children and a whole new generation will with this new film.
So I think it'll be subjective to which projectionist does what-- we are also talking about the NEW trailer, which might not be as grimdark as the teaser trailer. I think this guy's words hold a lot of water.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 6:20 PM@ Mikeynamez You got a good point, but why would they make a Godzilla toy for ages 5 and up? Maybe there trying to get every age group.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-03-2014 9:40 PMThere's always the possibility they'll release one tomorrow, 100 days till the movie releases. I'm not quite sure, I do know they said keep an eye out in the coming weeks, so we'll see something soon!
