AdminSpaceGodzillaDec-18-2013 12:16 AMThis topic was inspired by Gigan3001's latest thread, "Do you think any other Kaiju would make a cameo in the new film" - if you have an opinion on that question, be sure to post it there!
This topic however, asks should any of the classic Toho Monsters be referenced either by cameo, or "codename" at any point throughout Godzilla (2014)? Do you think this would be a lead-up to a sequel?
Although we know Legendary did not secure any rights to any other Toho Monsters besides Godzilla, there's nothing that suggests they can't reference or mention the possibility of a different Monster throughout the film. For all we know, Legendary could have secured rights to another Monster and simply kept it secret to leave it as a big surprise when the film hits theaters. (And no... don't start with the Hedorah crap again)
So, what are your thoughts? Do you think any original Monsters should be referenced / mentioned / hinted at in the new Godzilla movie? Let me know your opinions below!

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 12:28 AMI think only the less absurd monsters should be in this rebooted franchise. Anguirus, Rodan, Baragon, and Varan would all fit in pretty well with this new universe.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 12:28 AMI have a theory! Megalon and I are playing poker after an end credits scene!

I'm pretty sure one already has in the new trailer via SFX.
Listen VERY CLOSELY to the background noise @ 1:56-1:58 and @ 2:01-2:02, right before Godzilla's roar. I hear something very familiar!
I doubt that any Toho kaiju will actually appear in this film (for licensing reasons-I think we'd have known about it already-any lawyers out there?), but Edwards has expressed his affection for 'Destroy All Monsters' and has stated his desire to create a cinematic reality which accepts the existence of daikaiju. Even to have been handed the reigns to such a huge, major-studio project/potential money-minting machine, I have to expect that part of his thinking MUST be geared towards building a new franchise. I hope the movie is every bit as TERRIFIC as it looks so far, and makes Godzillions of dollars, so we can see more of them.
And I hope Emmerich & Devlin choke to death on each others' bowels whilst watching it.

AdminSpaceGodzillaDec-18-2013 12:39 AMI only heard low growls from Godzilla (I'm assuming) at those time slots, which Monster did you think they were referencing?

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 12:48 AMI hear it as well, but I think it is our brains playing "wishful thinking" tricks on us. Think it's a combination of that and the sound effects with the music.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 12:52 AMI had to give it a few listens, but its faint in the background. I think that is actually really cool. Again, it may be wishful thinking as @Gojira_rex put it. I also heard King Caesar's roar.

Chris
AdminSpaceGodzillaDec-18-2013 12:52 AMYeah... I think saying you hear Anguirus in the final clip is a bit of a stretch, but who knows! I couldn't make it out though. Sounded like buildings crashing and metal tearing.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 1:15 AMLess absurd monsters? Seriously? Everything about Godzilla and kaiju is absurd, that is the point. That is what makes Godzilla great.
But honestly, and as much as this will hurt some fans feelings, I think they should just make new monsters. I don't wanna risk old monster designs being screwed up in anyway.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 1:36 AM@ AKAGI I dont think old monsters design's would be screwed if anything they would be more awesome now that Movie Production & Post production is far more advance then ever. Yes I agree we should have some new monster, but maybe an old monster here & there wouldn't hurt especially for newer fans that really dont know the story of Godzilla like we do. It will help them be more curious about past films & future films, dont you think ?? this also helps promote Godzilla much more especially in social media.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 3:29 AMNo, I don't think ANY old TOHO monters should be rehashed in this (hopefully series) of movies. It is a brand new incarnation and a chance to bring in never before seen Kaiju. There are so many as yet un-used designs out there, which could easily become reality through CGI. I would prefer something fresh and different than the same old monsters, even if done in a different way. I am praying we get something better than Godzilla 2000s Orgah but even then it was nice to get another Kaiju added to the Godzilla pantheon. GMK and FINAL WARS were both a welcome nod to the Classic monsters, but since it has been done already we need more outstanding creatures than those of yesteryear.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 5:26 AMRefference...This is my number one favourite word. I. LOVE. REFFERENCES.
Now let me start by saying, refference could mean a lot of things. Wheter any of the old monsters will appear LATER i cannot tell, but im sure it could happen.
Now, to refferences; Cameo`s and codenames, not really. Thats something for later, like a monster island sequel. Now thats cameo material.
Another way to refference, however, could be by reusing an old monster roar for a new kaiju, or giving a new kaiju a hard, spiked shell like Anguirus, or giant ears like Baragon.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 7:38 AMi really think some older monsters should show up at some point. dont get me wrong id love to see a lot of new monsters but id also love to see some of my old favorites reimagined

Zodgilla
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 10:14 AMI genuinely hope there is absolutely none of that in this new franchise (if it does become a franchise.
I don't agree about Godzilla being "absurd"; there was no absurdity in the original 1954 film at all, and judging from the trailer, that's the tone and atmosphere Gareth Edwards is creating for the 2014 film. Things only became ridiculous after the second movie, and from that point on the franchise became the butt of jokes.
Besides, I can't see Legendary putting big bucks into a new version of something that the general public has seen as totally ridiculous...

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 10:56 AMI'm aware that most of you will find comment ridiculous, but I really need to see Mothra make a come back. I'd love to see her get a redux!

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 2:50 PMmechagodzilla at the end like in a marvel movie they would have him appear for like two seconds as a test and the words kill would appear and the screen would fade to black

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-18-2013 3:35 PMThey have a referance of Biollante, like having a rose in Dr. Serizawa's room or having the scientist who created her in the movie.
