Some Theories of mine

Just some observations and personal opinions/theories based on the formula of American film making and marketing.

First of all; I think Muto is going to be a creature akin to John Carpenter's 'the thing'.  Considering the dramatic difference between the dead creature in the original teaser trailer and the description of the monster from the second Comic-con trailer I'd say we have two very different monsters here. One being kind of reptilian and the other being insectoid.

So I think its safe to say that the 'muto' monsters are probably some adaptive, horrible plague like creature that poses a bigger threat than Godzilla, thus why Godzilla is constantly referred to as an 'anti hero' by edwards. I also don't think they are meant to be so much like "destroyah' as they are to be like Hedorah, as he was the first Godzilla monster to change forms and inspired destroyah.

And considering American film marketing, I just don't think godzilla is going to be a mutation as much as an 'ancient creature' akin to Cthuhlu or something. Something that is old and unexplainable. Sure, Muto might be an ancient creature with connections to Godzilla, but I have a feeling that one is awoken by human kind, and the other follows suit.

I don't feel like there will be story of "hey, godzilla conveniently re-awakens around the time Muto appears", I believe Godzilla will be systematically hunting the Muto creatures in some way, shape, or form. Why? I just have a feeling that it is going to be part of the plot.

But that is just my theories, feel free to add your own.

He is 350ft Tall people, those things on his neck ARE gills, and the Brazil photo is part of the final advertising design-- Deal with it.

realistically, why would legendary make something look like hedorah?, when you can have it be like destroyah? no offense to hedorah fans, but hedorah looked like a slimy, steaming, giant, living turd. while making something cool out of hedorah is possible, matt frank did it with g-neo, it would be pretty difficult compared to making something like destroyah look cool.

1. the monster in the 2012 concept trailer was replaced by the insectoid mutos in the 2013 version of that same trailer. This second mutos thing was also shown in the 2013 trailer (the "actual" trailer, if you will). I highly doubt that BOTH monsters will be making an appearance, but HEY you never know.

That aside, a monster in the likeness of J. Carpenter's The Thing would probably be pushing itself into the R rating. lol I like it. I don't think they're going to be putting a shapeshifter into the 2014 movie, maybe a sequel, but again.. I could be wrong. Again, would be bad ass.

2. Edwards only referred to Godzilla as an antihero once. People just reference that interview a lot, making it seem as though Edwards has said it thousands of times.

3. To be honest, I could care less how Godzilla came into play. Though I do believe it involves nuclear elements still. I just don't think everything needs to be explained, especially if Legendary plans on doing anything more with the character.

4. Godzilla hunting the mutos? that actually sounds like an interesting concept.

For the most part, I really liked your ideas.

Interesting to note, in Gojira, they usually say that nuclear weapons "awoke" him, not necessarilly created him.  Maybe Legendary will do the same.  For me, I still want him to be mutated by nuclear radiation.  So maybe Godzilla was an ancient beast mutated and awoken in 1954 by nuclear radiation?

As far as the Mutos go, I have nothing.

I think it's clear that this Godzilla couldn't simply be the result of recent nuclear radiation. He's MUCH too large for even that. I'm guessing that perhaps he was like a normal Godzilla before, but was mutated eons ago, and generations of radiation, both natural and man-made, has made him into the super titan of a monster he will be in the film.

godzillas origins should be somewaht kept mysterious, at least until a sequal. maybe he could be mutated by something having to do with or inside the meteor that killed the dinosaurs.
