(Entertainment Talk), had presented a link with some pretty damn good ideas. I think the website was something like G-Universe, or something like that (I'm doing this all off of memory), and there had been a study of how the radioactivity has effected the life around the nuclear meltdown that occurred in 2011. Specifically, the article had mentioned how that there was some substantial growth in many silkworms, which, when you look at it, resembles the 2012 creature a lot.
I'll try to find the link, it's pretty lengthy, but it's damn interesting.
