MemberMothra LarvaeDec-08-2019 8:34 PMI will be honest. I was physically and emotionally abused as a child. Godzilla films helped me escape. I was also sick constantly. I did not go outside. I could not play with other children. Godzilla was an outlet for me.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-13-2019 6:57 AMI saw the original Godzilla in the early 70's on "Creature Feature" on channel 32, Chicago. It was the English Version with Raymond Burr. I loved all of it, but I remember being captivated by the final death scene when Serizawa gave his life to kill Godzilla with the Oxygen Destroyer. Awesome.

MemberAnguirusDec-13-2019 9:26 AMIt was in 2011 and I was 6 and the first Godzilla film I saw was 1998 Goji. From then on, I've been a loyal fan to the King of the Monsters and it will always be honor to be one.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-27-2019 4:00 PMI was brought into Godzilla when I first saw the 1998 Godzilla movie (yes that one), I was around 5 yrs old and this was 14 yrs ago and I actually liked it...but I was only 5 and it wasn’t till later that i learned it was a insult to the Godzilla franchise. The first movie that got me into monsters and giant Kaiju was both the Original 1933 King Kong and the Peter Jackson King Kong remake, I fondly remember watching both films at home and at the cinema respectively. Watching a giant gorilla fight a trex, climb skyscrapers and have a fascination with a human has shaped me into the Kaiju fan I am now and has literally changed my life. Then the first True Godzilla movies I saw were Godzilla 2000, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. And the Original 1954 Gojira, Then the Heisei and Showa films came later. The memories of watching those films still touch me to this day. I was watching not just a man in a suit, but a icon of japan who went from destroyer of worlds to protector of humanity, this has launched my love of special effects, Giant monsters battling each other and cinema altogether. Then my fandom of Godzilla died down for a 1 or 2, until I heard the announcement of a new big budget, American Adaptation of Godzilla was coming and I was excited, Finally! We’re getting a new Godzilla movie and one that promises to erase all memories of the 1998 Roland Emmerich Abomination. The hype was real, as here and there, there were leaked photos, behind the scenes, trailers and Images revealing what the film will be like. I was in 7th grade, the best yr for me in Middle school, and the film couldn’t have come out any better time as I was entering my teenage yrs, my fandom and love for Kaiju has expanded a lot and the film lived up to my expectations (eh sort of). I’m Glad of being a Godzilla/Kaiju fan since it has helped shap and change my life forever, Long Live the king.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-30-2019 7:49 PMI watched the Godzilla (2014) movie and I was amazed, I just thought Godzilla was badass. Curiously, I watched that movie around the time Godzilla KOTM was in theaters, and since it was the sequel I went to watch it, and I loved the titans, especially Mothra, who is my favorite, so I'm a relatively new fan because I've been a fan since May 2019.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-31-2019 7:08 PMWhen I was a young kid back in the 70s, they used to air Godzilla movies on Saturday afternoons. I was always fascinated with the look of Godzilla. I also thought his roar was the coolest thing I had ever heard.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-07-2020 4:28 PMI became a fan when I was about 4. I used to watch the original raymond burr version and then later as I got older, growing up around Washington DC, I'd watch them on channel 20 (anyone remember captain 20?). My best memory had to be back in the 70s when dad took me to see Godzilla vs the Mechagodzilla at the drive in. I hated the Matthew Broderick movie

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-21-2020 11:25 AMexcellent question, thanks for asking. I remember seeing an ad for kotm when I went to the theatres to watch the most recent how to train your dragon movie, and I realized I knew practically nothing about the monster (Not even how many films were in monsterverse) so when I got home I put "Godzilla" into the search bar. I was so enamoured I went to see kotm a week later. that's my story.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-23-2020 6:09 PMHave been a Godzilla fan for as long as I can remember! Thank you for welcoming me to the group. I love classic and vintage sci-fi and horror movies with Godzilla and likewise other giant monsters being my favorite.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2020 4:39 PMI became a Godzilla fan because of my father. I can't remember why specifically I took so much of a liking to the series because I was too young. However I do remember that I would binge the movies with my dad. I woudnt have gotten into such a great franchise without you, thank you dad, rest in peace.

MemberBaragonFeb-14-2020 7:48 PMMy mom introduced him to me when I was about 7 or 8 years old. She was never a fan, but she vividly remembers watching the original and keeps mentioning a black-n-white one with Godzilla and another dinosaur-like creature fighting (Godzilla Raids Again).
I guess he didn't click with me until a while later when I found out there was going to be a sequel to the 2014 film. I decided to revisit that movie, as I had watched it before (but in a very bad viewing experience). I loved it, and I decided to rewatch the original (which I had also already seen). I realized I wasn't old enough to appreciate that movie when I had first seen it.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2020 6:46 PMI was very young and always a fan of dinosaurs and big reptiles and such. I don't know exactly when I was exposed or what the crystallizing moment was, but I that around 4-5 years old I was watching the Hanna-Barbera cartoon on Cartoon Network, the movies on Disney Channel* (mostly during their Triple-Feature Fridays; my Mom recorded a couple of those nights on VHS so we could watch them anytime, I particularly remember watching the Ghidorah triple of Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, Monster Zero, and Godzilla vs Gigan), and a cheap knockoff Godzilla toy my Nana got me thinking it was a dinosaur toy. It's become family legend that I opened it (it was a birthday or Christmas gift) and when she said "I hope you like your new dinosaur," I put my hands on my hips and said "Nana, that's not a dinosaur - it's Godzilla!" I still have that toy.
With all of that, I think becoming a fan was inevitable. Now I have a room full of amazing kaiju swag and no money XD
*I'm pretty sure it was Disney. It might have been ABC or TNT, though. I was 4-5ish.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-23-2020 6:11 PMI've been a fan of monsters since I was a little kid. I guess it's the fun aspects of watching large beasts wreck everything and use their abilities to take their foes down. A creepypasta actually helped me build hype for Godzilla: King of the Monsters when I heard about the sequel. (It is NES Godzilla if anyone's wondering.)
