A new comic miniseries entitled Kong of Skull Island is headed our way this summer and acts as a prequel to the original film. It's important to note that this is not related to the upcoming Kong: Skull Island film, which sets to reinvent the Titanic Ape's back story in conjunction with Legendary's established Godzilla/Kaiju cinematic universe.
However this miniseries will aid in generating hype for Kong: Skull Island. The official plot synopsis is as follows:
King Kong, world-famous and original gargantuan ape, is the progenitor of an entire genre, spawning sequels, remakes, and countless other interpretations. You know Kong. You love Kong! King Kong was created by Merian C. Cooper, and Kong of Skull Island is grounded in artist/author Joe DeVito's groundbreaking literary property Skull Island. BOOM! is partnering with DeVito Artworks LLC to present this story, exclusively authorized and endorsed by the Cooper family as their official King Kong/Skull Island prequel and sequel origin story. In this series, two fractured and combative civilizations are forced to band together as they venture onto Skull Island—their new home.
The series is being published by BOOM! Studios and will span 32 pages. Release date is set for July 13th, 2016.
