Due to the growing pandemic caused by the Covid-19 Coronavirus, the massive scale convention known as San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC for short) has officially been cancelled this year. For the first time in 50 years, Comic-Con have decided to shut their doors and reschedule their event until next year, 2021.
This is extremely unfortunate because Warner Brothers and Legendary were without a doubt relying heavily on SDCC this summer to begin mounting hype for their tentpole blockbuster Godzilla vs. Kong which remains set for a November 20th, 2020 release date. Until now, the film has seen little in the way of any new marketing to build awareness for the title's Fall release date and instead have only been faced with hurdle after hurdle since Disney shifted 2 of its films to square up directly with GvK at the box office this Fall.

Many films, but especially niche movies like Godzilla vs. Kong rely heavily on conventions like Comic-Con to really kickstart the hype train needed to fill more seats at the theater when these films eventually do release. Every single Monsterverse film until this point have benefited greatly by exposure at SDCC and WonderCon (which has also been postponed to 2021). Without this outlet to ignite new interest from the public and media, things are looking rather challenging for Warner Brothers, Legendary and the future of the Monsterverse as a whole.
At this point, it's looking very likely that Godzilla vs. Kong could see yet another release date shift if things continue in this direction.
