Kong: Skull Island promotion spotted at New York Comic-Con! MONARCH confirmed! (UPDATED)

Kong: Skull Island is currently being promoted at New York Comic-Con this weekend and promotional material for the film have confirmed the MONARCH organization will be present! Photos of a unique poster have surfaced online and it features a LANDSAT view of Skull Island, with a cryptic message written on it. Due to the glare of the photos we've currently found, it's difficult to make out what exactly it says, however we have transcribed what we could, below!

Regarding MONARCH, this is the first official acknowledgement of the organization being present in Kong: Skull Island, as you can see the organization's logo on the underside of the poster. MONARCH were the research company present in Gareth Edwards' Godzilla (2014) who studied both Godzilla and the MUTO. It's likely King Kong was the first massive unidentified terrestrial organism discovered by MONARCH, seeing as how Skull Island will act as a semi-prequel / blood relative to Godzilla '14.

The message reads:

His mouth is fire; his roar the floodwater; his breath is death.
Enlil made him guardian of the Cedar Forest,
To frighten off the mortal who would venture there
BUT WHO WOULD VENTURE THERE?

Thanks to Brian Luong on Facebook for the complete message!

Thanks to Reel News Hawaii for the photos!

Perhaps the message is referring to freaking Kong himself?

I would assume so! Apparently also, according to Brian, who provided the above passage, there is also a massive skeleton shown on the Island's surface. However, he doesn't say if it's a Kong skeleton. I assume we'll be privy to some other giant monsters, not just Kong. Any bets on a hint to RODAN?

Enlil made him guardian.

There's something really important about that, calling it now

Yep, perhaps some mythical God to the people of Skull Island? Or an actual being we have yet to be introduced to?

Wish we knew the context of the message.

Is it an advert, an in universe message, or a cryptic synopsis of kong. Why is he guarding the Cedar Forest to keep people out, who's Enlil and who even wrote the message in English at that.

This that line brings up so many questions.

I just received some juicy new info on this poster, but it needs its own post. Writing now, it opens up even more doors....

[Commented updated to reflect corrections by Scott Hamilton below; thank you sir!]

Enlil is one of the Sumerian deities attributed to the creation of humanity. Sumeria is one of the first cultures to have any form of a written record, but their records are incredibly detailed (even having random stuff like marriage records and records about business). They primarily attribute Enlil and Enki to the creation of man and civilization. It is thought they are among the class of species of the Biblical Nephilim (see Genesis 6:4 for talk of "sons of God"--entities of some kind who are different than God and different than man--who married the daughters of men, and who brought civilization to earth), the Sumerian Annunaki and the "Grigori" (Watchers) of the Jewish lore. Sounds like Kong is taking the mythos to a creationist level. I like it.

The Anunnaki weren't Egyptian, they were a pantheon of minor ancient Mesopotamian deities. In recent decades they've been co-opted by the Ancient Aliens crowd (starting with Sitchin), and from there they've been equated with the "Watchers" from The Book of Enoch (which was Jewish, not Slavic) by the Nephilim "researchers" who have back-formed new Christian theories from the ancient astronaut stuff.

Learning a lot about ancient cultures today haha. Love how Legendary and Universal are incorporating these aspects into the new story and not coming up with some random mythology.

It was once said that a battle occurred between the demigods and the humans over the beautiful and divine forest of Cedar trees near southern Mesopotamia. The forest, once protected by the Sumerian god Enil, was completely bared of its trees when humans entered its grounds 4700 years ago, after winning the battle against the guardians of the forest, the demigods. The story also tells that Gilgamesh used cedar wood to build his city.

It looks like Monarch is written on the tube the poster was in, not the poster itself...not that it matters much but CAN'T WAIT AWESOME!!!!
