Did John Goodman just confirm his character works for MONARCH in Kong: Skull Island?!

For a while now, there was a rumor circulating that John Goodman's character in Kong: Skull Island would have ties to the secret government organization MONARCH, which we were introduced to in Gareth Edwards' Godzilla back in 2014. Since Kong: Skull Island takes place in the same universe as Legendary and Warner Brothers' Godzilla series, it makes sense that the organization behind the research of these creatures is prevalent in each installment, but up until now all we had to go by were rumors.

During an exclusive interview with IGN at this past weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, John Goodman was asked if his character in Skull Island works for MONARCH, to which he comically replies "Yes!". Was he being serious? We would like to hope so!

Goodman's voice-over throughout the film's first trailer hints at his heavy involvement regarding the discovery and analysis of these giant primordial beings. He says he spent 30 years trying to convince people these monsters do exist.

Perhaps Goodman acted the way he did and answered the way he did because is doesn't necessarily "work for MONARCH", but instead acted as one of its founding fathers? Either way, we're very excited to see what other secrets Goodman's character reveals.

In addition to the MONARCH tease, we also learned that the King Kong in Skull Island is not in fact larger than the one featured in Togo's King Kong vs. Godzilla - still leaving Legendary's Godzilla quite a bit larger than Kong for their new Hollywood clash in 2020. Perhaps Kong gets stuck by lightening and grows even more before the re-match? We'll have to wait and see.

For the time being, you can watch the full interview below and let us know what you think in the comments section!

Maybe he's not full grown here. This does take place in the 70s, and their battle will probably be around 2020, or thereabouts. That's between 40-50 years later. A juvenile here, perhaps? It would be great if Goodman's character is connected to Monarch. So he's been on the trail of these mythical creatures since the 40s!

Exactly, there's plenty of time for Kong to grow enough to put up a good fight against Godzilla.

Or there could be multiple Kongs fighting one Godzilla.

@Facehuggers! - Godzilla Vs Kongs. I like it! There could be dozens of little ones pummeling him, like when all the little Destoroyahs were climbing all over G.

Maybe Kong vs Godzilla will look similar to the raptor and indominus rex. Kong will use speed and intelligence to climb Godzilla and try to deal damage while Godzilla will try to shake him off and either step in him or bite him in half.

The first voice heard in the preview sounds a lot to me like Bryan Cranston. It makes sense since his Godzilla 2014 character was active around the time this Kong movie takes place.

I like to knowing the John Goodman he studio was in early talks with  to replace him for the role which Simmons vacated, while John was also being eyed but not offered yet and Tom was offered for a lead role in the film. I work on assignment after watch the ask do my dissertation for me to would portray Kong through motion capture and that Kebbell provided some guidance for Kong's motion capture sequences.
