Godzillatheking123Godzilla Minus Zero NewsLatest Godzilla: King of the Monsters Poster Revealed!

Great poster, shows the big G very well, I particular like the glowing dorsal plates, I guess he is ready to unleash his atomic breath. Although one minor critique is the lacking of the other monsters. But I am confident we'll see all the monsters in later posters. I'm assuming the character facing the big G is Eleven...I mean Millie Bobby Brown's character. Sorry man, Brown's character from the trailer comes off like just she is playing Eleven in Stranger Things. Not a dig at Brown.

@Chris

The marketing style on this one has been a treat, the colors are great and this poster especially is just.....hnnng, fantastic.  The last campaign was very much golden browns and reds and greys, kind of grim and dull colors, I'd like to hope the stylistic decisions on the marketing here are continued reflections on better choices being made all around to liven things up and make the film more appealing to the viewer all the way around.

Well crafted CG is fine. Purposeful works too. But it still doesn't make it the end-all, be-all evolutionary leap. I'll accept that it's certainly a different way of bringing them to life, but evolutionary implies "superior" which is just not true, especially in terms of intent. Western audiences can perceive it as they wish, but the assumption that their visual philosophy is somehow another's superior by labeling it "evolutionary" is both arrogant and incorrect.

This.  Thank you.  You don't hear most of the fanbase griping about ALL the CGI used in Shin, it served its purpose to tell the story and embody the character.

I dunno, it certainly seems like a pretty well-accepted evolutionary branch as far as the vocal minority is concerned. Not everyone appreciates the fine art of tokusatsu in this day and age, but they can appreciate love put into the details.

I think Michael Dougherty has showcased just that with his direction for how to model the new batch of CGI Godzilla characters. Inspired by the old, but infused with new life that Japan just doesn't have the industry resources for. It's not the fact it's CGI, but rather that it's very well-crafted and purposeful CGI to add to the family.

YukisSpecial,
While I'm more than excited to see a new take on Godzilla, including in the effects department, I don't exactly see it as a "step up". Different? Yes. Western? Extremely. The methods in which Godzilla were brought to life were never meant to be seen as photo realistic--In fact the entire point was to do the opposite of what Hollywood was trying to accomplish even at the time. Instead of evoke realism, the techniques and methods were used to evoke reactionism via presentational art. Much like stage shows, or broadway shows, for example. Nothing looked real, but it was real and unique to that world.

Godzilla was literally "king" of those methods and "king" of those who followed suit: An entire style of Eastern special effects from other kaiju features, science fiction features, tokusatsu television, giant heroes and super sentai--Techniques still used today, even in Shin Godzilla.

In Hollywood, Godzilla is merely a pauper--A follower to the same 'ole thing we've seen for years. I agree it's interesting to see for a change and I hope it does make new fans. But honestly it feels more like a side-project in the franchise than a natural evolution--Something fun and worth exploring, but not quite the core essential of Godzilla.

Growing up through the 90s and seeing the takeover of digital effects in movies it's pretty fascinating to now at last see this thing I've always been curious about, being what it would look like if the Toho all-stars were turned into fully realized CGI creations, and it's pretty satisfying.

One of the things that bothers me about the mindset of the kaiju fandom is its stubborn, sometimes spiteful sentiments toward modern special effects, as though it's an insult to translate the kaiju into anything other than suitmation.  Suitmation was a wonderful method, necessitated by the times and money, and those films will always be the foundation of our fandom, but the reality is that methods change and the audience expects films to adapt to look as good as possible, and I for one am very excited to see some of my old favorites (especially my boy Rodan) rock the world in high budget digital.  With respect to the classics, I hope this film will encourage some of the naysayers to see the benefits of a new translation to bring in yet more fans.

If you listen closely to the Ghidorah clip, something similar to Godzilla's musical cue from the first movie whenever he first showed up in a scene seems to play.

I think it'd be a GREAT idea if King Ghidorah was accompanied by it. It'd play up how he's an even bigger presence than Godzilla himself.

Godzilla's_Tail79: I have no doubt Studios prefer to exert greater control over franchise movies like this, given the big budget investment they put into these movies, they would naturally expect it to turn out a certain way, rather than give full control to the directors as in smaller movies. But like I said, that can be a double-edged sword. It depends a lot on whether the studio know what they are doing, and not butchering the very film they want to promote, like what happened with Mummy.

As for 2014, I didn't think that was a bad movie, certainly better than 1998 at any rate. I found 2014 enjoyable to watch. But I get the criticism that it seem more like a stand-alone action movie with occasional glimpse of Godzilla, rather than being a Godzilla-centric movie. But I think Dougherty will fix that issue, those who saw an early preview of the first part of the movie report a lot more footage of Godzilla.

JUiCEZiLLAJOE87: Yes I heard those rumours too, but unless I get a clearer confirmation, that is just rumour at this point. It's still quite possible for G vs K to focus on that alone, that would be risky in my opinion. As for the Gigan being the ultimate threat, I don't know man. His "buzz-saw" chest has always been kinda cool, but he could end up looking stupid if not done right. I mean leaving aside the Gigan kaiju itself and just look at the Godzilla vs Gigan movie, it has it's charms, but I wouldn't list it as one of my top Godzilla movies.

I assumed Godzilla's breath was weaker in 2014 due to having gone a long time sleeping and or not absorbing enough Radiation. now that hes been awake a while and probably absorbed the radiation from the nuke blast at end of 2014 hes much stronger.

Unless Wikizilla led me to a false conclusion, I'm pretty sure Shin Godzilla can't even be killed. Its implied he's just sleeping at the end of the film and that parts of him can regenerate implying asexual reproduction. Legendary Godzilla is cool and all, but he's a more mundane creature, which is ironic, given how he's hyped up as a god in the KotM trailer.

For Me, It was definitely 2014. But way before it came out, I had seen pictures of this giant dinosaur, with it's back lit in a light blue color, with lightning all around it. For the longest time, I thought it was some sort of Demon. Then, as I later found out that it was Godzilla. My first actual movie that I watched was Godzilla vs Destoroyah, since I had seen about a million videos about it on YouTube. That was one hell of a movie, and I really think it helped shape the growing G-Fan I am today.

I'm not too educated on Godzilla's various power levels across the films but I agree that Final Wars is probably my third favorite Godzilla film besides Gojira and Shin Godzilla. The part where he fights King Caesar, Anguirus and Rodan at the same time (and King Caesar uses Anguirus as a soccer ball) is probably the greatest kaiju battle put to film I have yet seen.

As far as the tile Emma of pissing off Kong or Godzilla fans... It has been said in previous interviews as well as general information about the direction of this movie would be, that Kong and Godzilla would fight with both getting their punches in and showcasing how awesome each one is.  Then they would team up much like in The avengers and take on a bigger threat.

I'm not sure what that bigger threat can be other than Ghidorah maybe Destroyah hell Gigan (wishful thinking I don't know if they have the rights to these monsters I would think we would have heard something if not it's the best kept secret ever) could show up there's so many questions now of where this movie is going to go and how they're going to pull this off.  I have faith though in Adam wingard.

Godzilla's_Tail79Godzilla ForumAdam Wingard as director-Is he up to the task?

I haven't seen any of this director's previous work but the trend in Hollywood now is to take small-time directors and put them in front of big projects so the studio can have more control. Sometimes this works out well like Jurassic World but other times it fails like The Last Jedi (at least in my humble opinion).

I think its too early to tell for sure now, KotM hasn't even come out yet and so far things are looking good on that front. If it is well received I imagine they will try to keep GvK in the same vein and style. I think the Studio probably exerts more control over these movies now since 2014 wasn't as well-received as they hoped. They gave Edwards too much control on that film and while I think he's a good director he didn't give the people what they wanted - kaiju action with Godzilla as the focus.

Wish they kept the Skull Island guy for GvK though. Really thought that movie's style really stood out compared to Godzilla 2014. Made up for the movie's lack of plot, once again, in my humble opinion.
