It is entirely possible that they would appear since every time Mothra shows up, they show up. I just think that they won't be tiny women, the movie will probably take a more realistic approach to them.
A Gigan origin film taking place on another planet would be pretty interesting, though it would require a large budget. Otherwise I think Mothra and King Caesar would make for good solo films. King Caesar had a decent story-line in the Rulers of Earth comic they could adapt from, where King Caesar fought Megalon.
The ideal Godzilla look to me is the Gojira X SupesuGojira (Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla) suit. Every time I think of Godzilla, that is the one that comes to mind.
Was it the one showing the MUTO head at a Monarch facility? if it was... then I saw it .
My father was and still is, a big G fan so I guess that's why I love the series so much.
That submarine is a Tylenol in comparison to Godzilla. It is now my desktop back ground.
After the release of Godzilla (2014), I read an article saying that Biollante was being considered for the second one. Obviously, that didn't go into through so maybe there is a chance she'll be in Godzilla 3.
Hmmm....film by committee, that can end up well with diverse ideas producing a satisfying film or produce a movie that is nothing but an incoherent mess due to conflicting demands of it's producers.
A "committee" film that worked was Wonder Woman. The DCEU universe led by Zack Snyder was generally slammed by critics as far inferior to the Marvel universe. But with Wonder Woman, Snyder made the wise choice of getting Geoff Johns, the DC comic book writer, involved as the screenwriter. Johns knew the character and knew how to write a decent script. So when they hired a talented director in the form Patty Jenkins, the underlying "foundation" of the film was relatively solid.
Conversely, a commitee film could fail spectacularly. Like the Mummy with Tom Cruise. Universal was so focused on starting their Dark Universe, they put the cart before the horse. As in forgetting to actually tell a good story to be begin with. I mean, the tone was all wrong. The Mummy could not decide whether it was an action film or a horror film. And there was far too much info dump that dragged the pacing down. All in all, a bad film that killed the franchise before it began.
Hopefully, the Monsterverse has learnt that lesson and focus on telling a good story...with Godzilla as the focus.
Well, one can never rule them out for certain at this point. It is possible they could appear, but it just wouldn't fit well with the movie...unless Dougherty finds a very creative yet satisfying way to put them in, you never know. But for now, I tend to be skeptical about them appearing.
Dougherty strikes me a little more in an "auteur" role than Wingard. Wingard was brought onboard after a general story (and possibly screenplay) had been settled on--That gives Godzilla vs. Kong a, "film by committee" and "director for hire" vibe. Especially considering how many names were attached to the writer's room.
Dougherty was brought onboard to write Godzilla: King of the Monsters first and then got the director's chair second. So, for better or for worse, it's his baby through and through.
Strangely different production directions for two films in the same series. We'll see how it ends up.
No worries, that can happen to anyone. ;)
At the end of the day, making any movie is tough. Making a good movie is even tougher. The constraints of budget, time, and studio demands/interference all work as challenges for any director or screenwriter that can limit what they can achieve. Now Legendary and Warner are known as more director-centric studios, which allow their directors more leeway in controlling how a film is made, unlike other Hollywood Studios. But let's not kid ourselves, with a cross-over franchise like the monsterverse, the studios have a certain set of criteria that the director must met. That can either hamper or help the film. I just hope Dougherty for KoTM and Wingard for G vs K has the talent to do the job well, and more importantly, be allowed to do their job well.
Godzillatheking123,
I had a momentary lapse of sanity. You're correct, Rossio is only doing Godzilla vs. Kong. Dougherty and Zach Shields wrote King of the Monsters. (Of note, Borenstein did not have anything to do with the screenplay. He's only being credited for the inclusion of his characters, Serizawa and Graham. Thank God...)
I have the same fond memories of this site during the 2014 hype, when I was a sophomore, and now I'm almost 21 and I'm so hyped, I check on here everyday! Our Big G has come so far, and I love to see that there are plenty of people who love Godzilla like me
Remember way back in about 2017 when there were casting calls for KOTM? There was a casting call for two twin korean girls. This doesn't necessarily confirm it but its a huge possibility
Wait, Rossio is also scripting King of the Monsters? I thought Max Borenstein and Dougherty is writing King?
P.S-I guess I should have been clearer in my earlier post, I was referring to Godzilla vs Kong for Terry Rossio.
To me, Rossio is a concern for both King of the Monsters and vs. Kong. Yes he penned, the first Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mask of Zorro and Aladdin, which I love. But he also wrote the Pirates sequels, the putrid Lone Ranger and a variety of bargain bin action/thrillers.
I hope he's stepped up his game for both Godzilla films.
Cautiously optimistic on all fronts. Although the more I see and hear from Dougherty the more hopeful I am. He seems to be a true fan. Hoping the finished product is good. As for Wingard, again, it's wait and see. Way too early to pass judgement.
Hot damn, that looks amazing!
Now I want a ride based around an underwater trip where riders encounter Godzilla.
" I can only hope the screenplay is iron clad."
True, film-making is a collaborative enterprise, every team member has to carry their load and do their job right for the overall film to work. Casting-wise they seem to have a collection of good actors, so it's the script I am concerned about. Even if there is a brilliant director at the helm, but the story and script is complete crap, with a hackneyed plot and forgettable characters, then there is not much the director could do to rescue the film. Now the screenwriter here is Terry Rossio, who has long list of credits to his name, including penning the Pirates of the Carribean franchise and Shrek, some of the films he scripted earned rave reviews, others...not so much. But I have no idea if he knows or care enough about Godzilla to do it right.
As for Dougherty, his resume so far consist mostly of smaller scale horror flicks, well-received to be sure, but he also has not tackle a film of this scale before. Although in his defense, that Godzilla King of the Monsters trailer that came out this summer blew everyone away with how awesome it was. That surely help ease the concern of some G fans. But you are right, until we see the finished product, there is no way to be sure. Let's see if the 2nd trailer will show a consistent quality with it being as good as the 1st trailer.
He's a mixed bag, but sometimes a director can really step it up when it comes to certain films. I'll have to see the initial trailer for it to get a firm read on it.
@YukisSpecial I hear ya. This is definitely the place to be. To another of year of the King, man. Hope to see you around the forum!
@Godzillatheking123 Always great to have a proud fan in the community. Not just for Godzilla, don't let anyone deviate you from the stuff you love just because they don't. Hope to see you on here man!
@Chris Well Well, its the big man himself haha. Thanks for the welcome man, Its great to see you too! Its been a long time coming, but its pretty nostalgic to see us back on the Big G Hype train and you're right, this place is definitely gonna be packed with fans soon enough. Its great to hear from you again!
Scores updated.
I'm concerned.
To be fair I'm concerned about Godzilla: King of the Monsters as well--I like Dougherty a lot and he's saying all the right words, but sometimes I get a, "too good to be true" feeling from him.
With Wingard we have an inconsistent storyteller with obvious directing talent, so I can only hope the screenplay is iron clad. Aside from his last two favorite Godzilla movies, I'm okay with what he could potentially draw inspiration from. Ultimately we just don't know if it will work yet.
Wingard's never tackled this genre--It may fit him like a glove or it may not be his strongest work. Either way I look forward to following the production and getting hyped for it regardless of what the end product is.
Welcome back, Chris and thank you for the kind words! It's great to have you back on the forums. It's always nice to see familiar faces re-emerge. I hope other newbies or maybe even first time visitors get a chance to read your post, I'm sure it will inspire and encourage other like-minded fans to join in and take part.
I just turned 26 myself and I agree it's nuts to think how far we've come (and had to wait for the next movie haha). I see this place continuing to light up as KOTM comes around and then again for Godzilla vs. Kong.
Wow... that is hauntingly epic
I remember some a-holes in my high school days mocking me for liking "silly" and "childish" things like Godzilla, who, according to them, looks so "fake" and "chessy". Now as a mature adult with increasing years of life experience, I have no shame telling the world my love of Godzilla. Never accept it when people say you should be ashamed or be embarrassed by your love of Godzilla. Rather, spread that love. That is why I am here.
Yeah I don't see how fairies would fit into the monsterverse universe. I suppose it's not impossible. But it would seem odd and jaring if they appear, since the monsterverse thus far has not emphaized the more fantasy or magical aspect of kaijus, but more in the form of psuedo-science.
From another guy who came here, left for a while and then came back because of the joy of sharing excitement over a fandom, I salute ya. I was a part of several Facebook groups and elsewhere trying to find a good kaiju friend circle/hangout, and while there are some really solid ones there I've always appreciated how up to date this site keeps on information, which makes it fun to geek out over.
Every fandom has its negative elements and even here there's tiresome ideas and immaturity, but what I mostly see is the everlasting love of kaiju and it's a great thing to share. Best to ya as you trek through the college work, and here's to a killer upcoming year for our biggest and best hero, The Big G :)
This picture gives me energy.
I've never been more excited to have an image forthcoming in my nightmares, because HOT dang that underwater shot is creepy and awesome.
Tiamatzilla,
I have no idea what you were trying to say or why any of it has anything to do with the trailer.
A little late, but nonetheless, you're welcome
Oh man, Godzilla vs. Avengers 4.
I hope we're not overshadowed by Thanos shenanigans.
Sweet thanks Dough boy! Hope we get to see Kaiju destroy some property manually. Only thing that could ruin this film is if they killed off Ghidorah Rodan or Godzilla or cut off any of Ghidorah's heads or skimp on the destruction money shots like cheap asses.
As for Pacific Rim i didn't go for spoilers but was stoked for the trailers. I was rooting for the Otachi to defeat all Kaiju and robots seeing she was the closest to a Dragon. Her shin jaw and brutal murder killed that film for me, and as for part 2 there were no Kaiju i loved. I need my beloved Godzilla Ghidorah and Rodan to rule as the Gods! Very very stoked. I have been waiting for this all my life and when 98 came around first I did not believe Hollywood would tuch our king then went into full rebellion when the words "Godzilla defeated" appeared on the screen until I adopt an Iguana and seen how much of a notzilla shin ended up being when Japan swore they would kick out ass and then fired a statue at our Japanese/American King. Fucking blasphemy. If say this KOTM film is well overdue and if I had the cash to see it now id say release it now.... Im broke as shit tho and haven't made a Godzilla convention over a decade and I'm producing a failsafe film for in case we loose to Kong called Tiamatzilla vs the Kaiju Kongs. I'm down with this trailer now but can wait til May for the rest, I'll be at the fest this year as well.
actually its believed Millie bobby brown's character and her mother are basically supposed to be like the twins shobijin/cosmos
YES! YES! It's a Christmas miracle even though it's not a miracle nor Christmas yet!
I think so. It was stated at the start of this video that "Mothra's theme" would be featured in the movie alongside "Godzilla's theme". It doesn't specifically state which theme.
KaijuWorld,
Which brings to question... which theme? Ifukube didn't write the "Mothra's Song", so I assume we're talking about the "Mahara Mothra".
It has also been stated at the panel that Mothra's theme will be in this movie as well.
Yeah sadly they went downhill once they got bought out by "Premium Network" or whatever umbrella company that bought them and CBR / ComicBook(.com). I had to unfollow / unlike their pages for the insane clickbait. Exactly why I've refused to sell this site and the network we built and keep it private.
But yes - VERY glad to hear Dougherty confirming the trailer will arrive THIS SUNDAY!
