KyeroGodzilla ForumDestoryah is Overrated

You're entitled to your opinion GODZILLAFAN1995, but the fact is that Destoroyah is Godzilla's single most powerful enemy.

Why?

Because, as I've said in other threads, he's the ONLY opponent that was able to withstand over half a dozen blasts of Godzilla's red-spiral ray in close proximity without sustaining more than minor damage. The worst it did to him was start tearing at his wings and blast one of the frills off the side of his head. That's it. Mechagodzilla II was obliterated after 3-4 direct blasts, and Spacegodzilla was knocked over and forced to retreat into an energy form like Billante did after about 3-4 blasts.

And another important fact to consider about that fight is this: if Spacegodzilla hadn't had his power crystals in the first place, Godzilla could have kicked his ass a lot sooner given how quickly the tide turned at the end of the fight when his shoulder crystals were gone.

I don't believe you've watched the fight against Destoroyah enough. Godzilla is knocked down multiple times, draged around by his throat not once but twice, sliced and cut deeper than any other enemy has ever been able to do (in critical mass no less), and pushed to the brink before he finally hit the final stage of his meltdown.

It's not an opinion that Destoroyah is Godzilla's single most powerful enemy, it's a fact.

Monster X and Kaizer Ghidorah come close, but they're both the same creature and even in his final form, Godzilla only needed the mutant's boost of power to take him down and one, count it, ONE, red-spiral ray to obliterate him.

Destoroyah, unlike King Ghidorah or other fan favorite Godzilla foes, actually has a reputation which he's rightfully earned. In fact, I counted nine total blasts from the red-spiral ray before Destoroyah started flying away. Godzilla was knocked down three times, dragged around twice, and thrown entirely off the ground once before the fight ended.

Also, had the Super X III and the military not interfered, Destoroyah could have either sucessfully completed his retreat to fight another day as Godzilla melted down, or broken himself up and reformed again good as new to continue the fight.

Godzilla didn't defeat Destoroyah at all, the military's freezing weapons did. That fact, in and of itself, also counts towards Destoroyah's power and reputation.

Again, it's not an opinion that Destoroyah is Godzilla's single most powerful opponent. It's a fact. Even Godzilla's most powerful form couldn't defeat it, and in the end it took a weapon other than Godzilla to destroy it. Had Godzilla Junior's revived form engaged Destoroyah, I can guarantee he'd have lost handily when even his father's most powerful form couldn't prevail.

fuck king kong, you seriously are a ghidorah hater, im not going to just accept that ghidorah is either overrated or should not be in anymore movies and yes mecha g goes into that catagory, also king kong wasn't the antgonist nor the protaganist or the anti-hero/hero of the movie where as ghidorah in GtTHM was the true villian of the movie. ghidorah is a good monster in my opinion, not eveyone has to put destoryah as #1 in a top 10 godzilla monsters.

Not raging as much as pointing out facts behind why people see this monster as such a great enemy, or classify him as the strongest monster Godzilla's faced.

Personally Godzilla vs Destroyah is my favorite movie of the series, not because of Destroyah but because of the story around the monster. Godzilla is at his peak of power to the point even the whole world is in danger, he's beaten every enemy he's gone up against from old rivals to new clones and he's stronger than ever before, what could possibly go against him besides the embodyment of the only weapon to ever kill a godzilla? While the monster itself is interesting it's the story the the movies creates all the things throughout the whole heisei era leading up to the final confrontation that makes him 1 of the greatest. We get to see Godzilla get to absorb stronger radiation in Godzilla vs Ghidorah. We get to see him get even stronger from Rodan and then finally it becomes too much for even him and while Destroyah is normally seen as the antagonist, for a small section of the movie you can see how he can actually be the protagonist for the humans who's world could end with him being the only thing that can possibly stop Godzilla before the melts down and takes japan with him. Granted that's somewhat thrown away with the ice weapon ending but the sentiment is there

If by your logic true enemy means some1 he never allied with then Kong is his first true enemy. Saying only a true enemy is some1 who appears in various movies and always antagonistic narrows it down basically MechaG Ghidorah, and Maybe Gigan for the most part. I can see the point of allies, but once again Kong never allied with him and even though he only appeared in 1 movie that's simply because TOHO doesn't have rights to him as I guarantee if they did we'd have seen at least 1 more Godzilla vs Kong movie by this point.

Technically going off that was it not Ghidorah who got help before the computers were destroyed? Nothing weakened him physically after they were destroyed he just didn't have a human mind behind his physical strength to help him win. Once the computers were destroyed it was essentially 1v1 and Godzilla won. Well before Gigan left it was essentially 3v2 since the Godzilla tower had more than enough firepower to count as a monster itself while only being stationary. So if Ghidorah was so powerful could he not outdo Godzilla in a movie that the odds were the most stacked in his favor?

Yes Destroyah reformed and tossed him, but point is godzilla still had the wounds from Destroyah's horn while Destroyah showed no blood or injury from what had been done to him before. Had godzilla not hit critical could he have had any more power than what he already used? Eventually Destroyah would have worn him down as I said, most of the fight besides the small portion that Godzilla made him puke blood, despite getting wounded by the horn in the process, so arguably went even, it was in Destroyah favor. He's not just tough his offenses are also extremely powerful as 2 shots from his breath killed the baby who was basically Godzilla at that point in the series, and horn could wound even the adult Godzilla; that included in his sheer size and strength that he showed by easily dragging Godzilla and throwing him around adds enough credit to the argument that the monster had more than defense.

why do i call ghidorah godzilla's FIRST true enemy, because he only fought angirus and king kong once(angirus soon being classed as his true ally) mothra is a mix between his ally and enemy and he fought rodan and became allies with him in ghidorah's debut movie and ghidorah has always been godzilla's enemy since his debut, even becoming mothra's enemy in the rebirth of mothra 1(des ghidorah) and 3

Ghidorah was the 4th monster to fight Godzilla. Definitely not the first true enemy unless you don't view enemies until Godzilla became a Good guy which I don't agree with. His first movie was extremely popular, HOWEVER it did have an incredible monster roster at the time of 3 bigtime already established monsters to bring in a crowd. To credit the success strictly to Ghidorah is completely wrong. Afterwards he's immediately brought back then returned again in Destroy all Monsters as the main antagonist, however at the time Ghidorah was the only space monster in the series and they weren't coming out with a new monster for what was supposed to be the final enstallment thus Ghidorah was the only monster that could fit the role of villain in that particular setting.

you say godzilla beat ghidorah 1 on 1 in godzilla vs king ghidorah but you do know godzilla only starting winning when he 'got help' from the humans who smashed to future peoples computer and messed up ghiodrah control which stunned him, i'm still going to defend ghidorah, also ghidorah is the enemy of course he's going to lose, also gigan almost tried to leave him. also when destoryah reformed all he did was toss him, that was it then godzilla (even though he was starting to melt) pretty much owned him, destoryah is very durable and tough, but that doesn't make him the most powerfull, at leat the way he was shown in the movie.

Rodan's power gave godzilla the spiral ray so it's safe to say that if the plating remained it would have been melted by the ray. Godzilla never used the ray until the end but I doubt something that almost instantly killed spaceGodzilla would have been hindered much by his tower being there.

And yes Godzilla made Destroyah puke blood, the Destrayah separated, reformed and showed no sign of injury and at and went back to throwing Godzilla around. Point still remains Godzilla had no real advantage till he hit critical the fight just went back and forth mostly in Destroyah's favor.

Ghidorah's been beaten 2 times in fair fights between him and Godzilla. In Godzilla vs Gigan it was 2v2 and Ghidorah lost. In Godzilla vs King Ghidorah he was beaten again, without use of the spiral ray the Godzilla needed to beat almost every other enemy in that series.

also i thought most people did not like mothra, she is a good monster and the most brave, taking ghidorah head on as a larva, fighting godzilla when she is dying. godzilla, mothra and king ghidorah can work well as well, godzilla the anti hero, mothra the brave couragous goddess and ghidorah the planet destoryer.

GMAN2887 if we truly are just going off box office and ticket sales for why Ghidorah is brought back over other monsters then Destroyah who's movie outdid Ghidorah's movie by quite a substantial amount when it came out should get a reboot as despite being a known character Ghidorah couldn't outclass Destroyah's movie in terms of ticket sales. Granted there's the fact it was known that was godzilla's supposed last movie so maybe that's not a fair comparison, but SpaceGodzilla, another new monster who still currently only has 1 movie under his belt also outdid Ghidorah in ticket sales.

Point being other monsters have done just as well if not better and have still not seen a return to their characters, so while it's true he does well, it is evident other monsters also hold that potential, toho just doesn't give them their chance.

As a side note i completely disagree with Destroyah not being an iconic character. Being created by the only true thing to kill Godzilla makes him much more suited for the role of "ulitmate rival" in my opinion than a dragon from space.

well the only reason godzilla was able to take down super mg was because his diamond sheild melted due to rodans energy tranfering, spacegodzilla lost his crystal power tower, was tagged team by the asstitance of mogera(who destoryed his shoulder crystals) and was already dying before godzilla finished him off with his sprial beam. godzilla did more significant damage to destoryah, yes he tossed godzilla mutiple times but godzilla made him vomit blood and could hit him in close quaters and that was before when went crtical(melting point), yes destroyah could withstand the most powerful attack but he wasn't close to killing godzilla and the beam still hurt him, if anything he made him more angry by killing his son. and if your argument against ghidorah is that he has been defeated more times, then has he ever been defeated by 'just' godzilla (gmk does not count), oh and the gforce killing destoryah does not count either.

Godzilla at his meltdown was the strongest incarnation of Godzilla and most of the fight, Destroyh was clearly winning with Godzilla not having a chance. Godzilla was in Melee very strong, but Destroyh beat him a few times. That thing with the spiral heat ray is right, Godzilla killed Gidorah with his normal atmoic breath and Mecha and Space G had no chance against the power ray, but Destroyh took it a thousand times and was still beating Godzilla.

Yes, he was killed by the army, but this was a stupid ending, that was not the real ending. The reale ending is much better, in this, they shoot Destroyah the same way, he falls down but he don't die. Then he and Godzilla fight another times, this time the army helps Godzilla with their ice weapons and he finally beats Destroyah. It is so much better, Destroyah isn't killed by the army and Godzilla himselfs finishs him. But still, he was only able to kill Destroyh, because the army helped him.

I like Destroyah, one of my favorite monsters, but I think noboda likes all the monsters. A lot of people like Mothra, for me, it's a stupid butterfly. Everybode has a his own opinion.

If you think Godzilla mostly kicked his ass I suggest you rewatch the fight as Destroyah was winning very obviously until Godzilla hit his critical temp and was giving off so much energy and heat even his spines were melting.

Destroyah beating Godzilla for most of a fight when he's his most powerful has much more weight than almost killing him when he's in a weaker form. Sure MechaG was the closest to killing him, but then Godzilla aquired his spiral ray and took him out very quickly. The same spiral ray that Destroyah took point blank numerous times without flinching. Point is Ghidorah never even got hit by the spiral ray and was still beaten, MechaG took it maybe 3 times before he got destroyed, and SpaceGodzilla took it maybe 4 or 5 before he was beaten, but Destroyah fought when that was the only thing being used on him.

If any1's overrated it's Ghidorah who has been beaten by Godzilla more times than any other monster but still is considered the strongest by those who argue against it being Destroyah.

The thing is, no matter what Godzilla could throw at Destroyah, he would simply shrug it off and either not care, or recombinate out and back into his Final Form. Even when it seemed that Godzilla had the upper hand in the end, Destroyah would likely just recombinate as he did before, and couldn't truly be killed, like how the only thing that truly killed any Godzilla iteration was the Oxygen Destroyer and a self-induced-uncontrollable nuclear meltdown. Besides, almost every monster has some sort of specific weakness, and Godzilla didn't possess the means to exploit Destroyah's, but G-Force and the JSDF did, just like how Dr. Serizawa did as well in 1954.

I dont get it when people say "done to death". He has been in alot of movies, or "done to death" as some say because he is a popular foe of Godzilla. And lets be honest, there is a reason.

Its like Batman and The Joker. The Joker is probably also the Batman villain thats been done mostly, but that doesnt mean we wouldnt want too see him in a new medium.

This isnt another TOHO movie/Batman comic, where Ghidorah/The Joker could be featured, its an american remake/film adaption (think Burton here people).

And if he wasnt featured at some point, it would be a shame. It doesnt have to be in the first, second or third movie. He might not another movie, but he deserves it. And i would happily accept him.

i agree with you gman,he's cool but i ever saw destroyah as the most powerful monster, he only withstood godzilla's beam at the height of his power, but he didn't even get close to killing him or overpowering him, godzilla kicked destroyah's ass more than destroyah did to godzilla. and nothing is wrong with re using ghidorah even with mechagodzilla, in godzilla vs king ghidorah, ghidorah was winning untill his control was severed and it stuned him, but destoryah had a weakness. ghidorah also works as godzilla greatest foe in that he has no weakness, is powerful and has high durability.

Yes, the Wii Version of Godzilla Unleashed, that looks much better than the Ps2 Version. The worst thing is, that on the back of the shell, there is a picture showing King Caesar and Krystalak fighting. But they aren't in the Ps 2 game, so it's just lying.

You'll all hate me for this, but I don't hate the redesign, in terms of asthetics. I liked it as a kid & I still like it today, what I won't forgive is the complete disregard for established characters traits (no breath weapon, no missile immunity ect). I think that, had the film-makers not been total idiots & included those traits, the design would have gone over far better.

Please be aware that I'm not defending the movie, it's still an abysmal heap of s***

Really people are voting for GMK over Mothra vs Godzilla? How unlucky Mothra vs Godzilla got getting paired against such a popular movie(no matter how much I disagree and find it horrible) while the weaker Heisei version got lucky and got paired against Godzilla's revenge.

I remember when I was kid I was in an arcade shop outside of atlanta that had a lot of rare and japanese machines. I saw a Godzilla game, but it was unplugged/not working. I was so pissed and till this day I still feel dissapointed I never got to play it. I never even knew what it looked like or how it played until I googled it recently. It seems that only one or two machines exist in the US at the moment. Road trip, perhaps...lol

I usually go with Kiryu because I find using his missiles to be effective against most opponents. He also moves quickly enough to avoid various attacks, and can deal some great kicks.

Gigan is also fun to play as, especially when I get to grab and buzzsaw my opponent. Heh.

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumKing Ghidorah's reputation

@Durp004

I can understand your personal preference to not see King Ghidorah anymore, but that still doesn't mean he can't (or won't) be taken in new directions again. The problem is, it's not simply Toho that continues to bring him back, but the audience. It's less about Toho doing different things with the character and more about box office reciepts.

Why do you think King Ghidorah was the first monster to be revamped in the Heisei series? vs. Biollante didn't perform at the box office like Toho had hoped. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, on the other hand, knocked it out of the park. King Ghidorah was in the first movie of the Millennium series that revamped monsters as well. Why? Because Godzilla x Megaguirus was the least attended Godzilla movie since Godzilla vs. Megalon. GMK, on the other hand, was the highest grossing movie of the Millennium series. So saying Toho is being foolish to use him instead of other monsters is completely false. In fact, you could argue his popularity saved the series on a couple of occasions.

Toho has seen that King Ghidorah sells more tickets and draws a larger crowd. You have the fanbase to blame just as much as Toho at this point-- And honestly, I'm fine with it. As a huge King Ghidorah fan I welcome more iterations as most monsters don't interest me nearly as much.

I maintain that more can be done with him, like any monster granted. But out of a great number of other monsters he's one of the few that sparks true excitment. He was the classic foil to Godzilla. The first monster Godzilla needed help to defeat and his legacy has only grown since then-- no more unnaturally than Godzilla's, really. The reason we have so many movies with King Ghidorah is the same reason we have so many Godzilla movies.

@Kyero

I typically agree with you, but here I think your missing the better part of his legacy.

Fantastic powers and abilities don't necessarily add to the "best" of Godzilla's foes. Sure we could argue Destroyah was Godzilla's most powerful foe, but does that make him his greatest? Not in the least.

In fact I've found Destroyah overrated by a fanbase that cites universe established hijinks to argue his dominance. But the fact is the fight between Godzilla and Destroyah was never that riveting. We can say he's the most powerful because, "Godzilla was in his most powerful state," but it still played out like any other Heisei fight. Lots of beams, little movement, not much struggle. Same ole'. Same ole'. Not to mention Destroyah was overdesigned just enough for the suit actor to barely move...

But all of that is a moot point. Godzilla vs. Destroyah did nothing to establish an iconic character-monster. It was just another heavy Heisei era beast. When King Ghidorah was introduced in 1964 it gave audiences something very different. Honda pitted him against Toho's three mightest beasts and he was able to stand his ground. The destructive capabilities of Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra had already been introduced in their own movies. Godzilla himself had only fought monsters one-on-one at this point. (Barring the Mothra larva team-up.) So the fact that all three of these monster stars were needed to even out the playing field spoke worlds to the audience back then.

You also have to consider the debut movie as well. On top of King Ghidorah being a fantasical, violent monster, unlike any other seen at the time, the movie itself is often considered one of the series' best. It was critically well recieved and good word of mouth didn't hurt Ghidorah's introduction either.

This isn't an argument against other monsters, mind you. In a way I agree that other monsters should be equally appreciated. But some just haven't made the same impression. Or they've simply debuted in the wrong decade of the series.
