I know what that is. Isn't that the one of the games Monster Island Buddies (MIB) did a livestream on?
@MinecraftDinoKaiju I don't really see the movies being gradually worse if they continue, Just "That one" that will bomb because giant monster movies will reach their fatigue factor with western audiences.
"Why would humanity especially the US military waste a shit ton of time, money, and resources to make a robot that looks just like godzilla?"
Because it's awesome and it's part of the genre. Deal with it or get out.
To be fair, according to IMAX reports, Avengers 4 is moving up into April. So it will be even further removed from Godzilla. I'm far more concerned about Aladdin.
yeah, I didn't really state that the best way possible. what I was trying to say was that any monster (with some real science) can fit in the monsterverse. as you know I made a series based around this and am planning on bringing it back. I am going to try and redo Mechagodzilla after hearing others reactions. I already have some reasons WHY the military would make Mechagodzilla.
1. the humans have no way of protecting themselves. as stated in the trailer of king of the monsters "we are the infection and earth has sent a cure". they need something to fight back. this could also go with your drone idea, but this is where point 2 comes in.
2. even though that would be a good idea on paper, how are they going to know where a certain monsters' weak spot is. with these kinds of situations, time matters a lot. they need to fight with the 1 thing that is everything weakness and that is being weaker than your opponent. with a giant robot, they can work with an overall stronger force to punch these monsters back or kill them. and hey, maybe you can build drones into the robot for when they do find its weakness. the question now is why it looks like Godzilla, but this is where point 3 comes in.
3. the Kiryu saga explained it the best in my opinion. by using a Godzilla skeleton as the frame of Mechagodzilla. with the point of force being the only way to damage these monsters, the mech must be mobile and agile. this could only be done with human/Godzilla like limbs (especially the tail). put 1 and 2 together and you have a defense mechanism. maybe the monsterverses Godzilla has a skeleton so strong that it can hold tons and tons of weight. this could be the only way they can make a mech as heavy and big as the monsters.
btw, about it costing a lot of money and resources. well, I am not a math expert, but I think 1 giant metal robot would cost less than repairing a destroyed city which with Mechagodzilla could be prevented altogether.
Personally, think these points are enough explanation for why the military would build Mechagodzilla, but that is not up to me. maybe you have some opinions on these possible reasons. but after all the REAL question of this topic is do you want or would you like to see Mechagodzilla in the monsterverse?
I just hope they don't include mechagodzilla, unless its of alien origin.
@KaijuWorld Ummm sci-fi doesn't equal to fantasy! remember there is science in the fiction and Legendary Godzilla's design was ment to be more "realistic" than Toho's design, hence why Legendary Godzilla has sauropod feet rather than fat theropod feet, also Godzilla is not a lizard, he is a dinosauromorph which are Archosaurs. Lizards are lepidosaurs; while both archosaurs and lepidosaurs are reptiles, they are two different clades of reptile. Its like the difference between placental mammals and marsupial mammals, but no one confuses an elephant with a kangaroo.
Mechagodzilla just doesn't make sense, not because its "unrealistic", but because its more of a why? Why would humanity especially the US military waste a shit ton of time, money, and resources to make a robot that looks just like godzilla? When you can make smaller and cheaper drones that can mosquito their way up to godzilla and strike his more vulnerable parts?
As enthusiastic as I am, it's going to take a lot of hoop jumping to go beyond Godzilla vs. Kong. KotM has to go up against Avengers 4, sure it'll be a month old by then, but it's the follow-up to possibly the biggest Marvel movie ever. Then Disney still has the Aladdin remake scheduled for a week before and that 90's nostalgia will put butts in seats regardless of quality.
Now I'm certainly more confident with the trailer being out and the reaction from more general audiences being overwhelmingly positive to it. It'll be a wait and see type of deal. KotM can crush it, or be a total flop. I think Godzilla vs. Kong will do well regardless on just the fact it's Godzilla "fighting" King Kong.
No, I did some research and the game I was talking about was called ”city shrouded in shadows”. If you google it you will now what I mean.
"There is a strong possibility that the Monsterverse will continue until the money stops."
In other words, what I would like to call "the Destroy All Monsters [D.A.M.] effect", in which they make so much money with GKOTM & GvK that they make more that are worse until no more movies. Right?
Hey, KaijuWorld. Are you sure you don't mean the game "Godzilla Daikaiju Battle Royale"?
Either Mecha-Godzilla, or Anguirus.
Gotta be Anguirus for me. I think he would fit really well.
I think if these next two entries are overwhelming box office home runs, I think there will be more films. Now touching on what Gman said, I think Toho will renegotiate a higher fee, But if these movies are done right that fee will pay for itself. Simply put, If these next movies do well, There is a strong possibility that the Monsterverse will continue until the money stops.
It depends on two factors:
1) How well Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong do at the box office. These films are being pumped out quite close to each other--If Godzilla: King of the Monsters fails, then it will be too late to back down from Godzilla vs. Kong because it will be in the middle of post-production by then. Both need to be definite successes and they likely need to make much more money than Godzilla '14 and Kong: Skull Island.
2) It's also up to Toho. The deal between Toho and Legendary expires in 2020--This is one reason why Legendary is in such a rush to shoot Godzilla vs. Kong and get it released.
The deal between Toho and Legendary dictates that two live action Godzilla movies can not be in production at the same time. That's why we haven't seen another live action movie out of Toho since Shin Godzilla. We know Toho wants to make their own Godzilla-verse, so they may not want to renegotiate their contract with Legendary.
If Toho does allow Legendary to continue making movies with Godzilla, Toho will likely raise the price--Especially if Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong do well. And even then, I bet the deal will be altered to where Toho gets to make the Godzilla movies they want to make.
This is what I thinking for Monster-Verse
1) Godzilla (2014)
2) Kong: Skull Island (2017)
3) Godzilla: King Of The Monsters (2018)
4) Godzilla vs. Kong (2020)
5) Godzilla: War Of The Monsters (2022)
6) Kong: Return To Skull Island (2023)
etc...
Creating your own monster would be awesome. Even though depending on the physics of the game it might be weird, like if you were to put King Ghiroah's neck(s) and head(s) on Mothra's body would that mean the monster is very top heavy lol? I would like to see a big story mode, maybe something like you play through each movie from '54 to Final Wars where you fight every monster (or just the army if there is only one monster).
While Final Wars was awful, the celebration and anticipation throughout that year was incredible:
- Godzilla: Save the Earth for the PS2
- The star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
- The mass of merchandise
- The amount of Godzilla movies being released/re-released on DVD, etc.
Final Wars may have been a critical and box office bomb, but the road to it was a lot of fun.
Daigoro for the lulz.
Anguirus is probably my favorite but I feel like he's going to be introduced soon anyway. Maybe Manda cause I always thought he was cool but I'm not sure if he'll be in this version.
I think that IDW and GMK got a lot less credit then they derseved here. As for IDW, we have to remember Godzilla in Hell. Here he is shown to be especially resilient, even with most of his powers stripped from him, he was shown to be remarkably powerful. As for GMK, he is one of the only ones who has died on screen, and the second to "come back". The first being Zilla '98 in Godzilla the Animated Series.
I really want Conrad to return in Godzilla vs Kong but as protagonist not someone who pits them both against each other.
Biollante or King Caesar.
I think for me the 2 stand outs are Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster, and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla(74). It's really hard choosing between then I'd probably have to sit down and rewatch them both before I could really pick a standout.
As for which decade was my favorite, probably the 50th, not because Final Wars(bottom 5 g movie IMO) but as a fan I remember a lot of Godzilla movies got special releases in the states.
I agree with KaijuWorld. While I like the design of the monsters in Godzilla (2014), if I wanted to see an anniversary film with a memorable human plot and a whole lot of monster action, I would have to go with Godzilla: Final Wars.
What made me a godzilla fan? It was when I was like 8, and my grandpa put on All Monsters Attack. I barely remember any of it, but after that, I just liked godzilla. Then, a few months ago, I just started watching all the showa and heisei movies on starz and other movie apps/websites. Here is my list of every godzilla movie I have watched so far(In my memory)
Mothra vs. Godzilla
Ghidorah, the three headed monster
Invasion of the Astro Monster
All Monsters Attack
Terror of Mechagodzilla
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
Godzilla(1998) (I like the movie)
Godzilla vs. Megaguirus
GMK
Tokyo SOS
Final Wars
Godzilla(2014)
Shin Godzilla
Monster Planet
City on the Edge of Battle
Gigan or destroyah . Those two would look awesome and would Godzilla 's greatest opponents by far.
I think he drew king ghidorah , mothra , and rodan exactly how they will look in the film. Good, job this is awesome.
godzilla 2014 as a favorite movie, but final wars is a better anniversary because of all of the monsters in that movie.
it has been a while since there was so much talk on one of my topics. I am just saying that every opinion is welcome on this site. these topics are just my way of doing things and I am totally fine if anyone has a different or negative opinion on them.
You guys have to remember that I am just taking Heisei origins and modernizing it, making some changes and fitting it into the monsterverse. I always like to have these topics both similar to its previous origins and add some new elements.
I do want to point out that the human cells probably didn't even affect this version of Biollante. only the Godzilla cells are mutating the creature.
"How do you pull that off with the realistic tone the MonsterVerse has established?" really, that is your argument. this universe is as believable as a 100m tall lizard with atomic breath, a 30m humanoid ape, a godlike moth and a 3 headed dragon (possibly from SPACE). you could say the same about the MCU and they have gods, talking trees and a raccoon with a machine gun whilst being realistic. Biollante (even with the addition of cell mutation) is already perfect for the monsterverse as she is and the bioengineering fits in with the overall tone of the monsterverse.
+ this is sci-fi, it is not meant to be fully realistic and believable. people don't go in these movies with a science book so they can break down every element from a story to say it is unrealistic.
I can totally understand the idea of making Biollante an already full grown creature from skull island. it fits in with the logic of the universe around it, but how would it fight Godzilla if she is there. surely it would have to fight kong instead (though that could also happen). I also think that saying that is was a huge creature from skull island would be kind of lazy. by making her be a mutated plant from the island with some Godzilla cells just makes it a little more interesting.
"But it is the most effective way to reboot her without complications. Simplicity can be just as effective, or even more." I don't think that you understand the premise of a reboot completely. a reboot should improve a character and its story, should make it more timeless and make it fit in its new universe. just simplifying a character for a reboot is the exact opposite of what you are supposed to do with a classic character.
"Biollante is a flora/fauna hybrid, that alone is already interesting." if that was the reason, megalon would be as incredibly popular as Biollante. the reason Biollante stands out is her design and her message of experimenting on plants. that message is one of a kind in the kaiju franchises.
these are just some of my reasons I made the topic the way it is. everyone has their different reasons when creating a story and this is just one way to do it, MY WAY. everyone is allowed to create their story the way they want. that is something to remember and I am happy to hear your opinions (even if they are negative).
And you MrAwesomeness360 should do the same. saying stuff like "these bullshit ideas" about just someone's opinion is not very nice to someone who has put hard work and research in something. PlainsViking respects my ideas and gives his take on the character of Biollante without being rude to me, so maybe you can learn some more from him.
Mecha Godzilla checks the boxes for me.
Definitely Gigan, he's always been a favorite of mine, and it would be interesting to see how Legendary would implement him into the Monsterverse
• "I just think it lacks creativity." But it is the most effective way to reboot her without complications. Simplicity can be just as effective, or even more. Take it from me: there's nothing wrong with simplicity.
• "With a genetic manipulation angle a more layered and meaningful story can be developed." The problem with that is that there is a lot of "how?" and "why?" that you need to answer to then justify that particular reason to add a certain character into the mix. How do you pull that off with the realistic tone the MonsterVerse has established? That's the question right there.
• "That’s also one of the main things that sets Biollante apart from other Toho monsters and makes her more interesting." Biollante is a flora/fauna hybrid, that alone is already interesting. Just think of how interesting a creature like her could be if she came from a more mythological direction.
• "Mixing G Cells with plants ties into well known current day science and would be equally believable to GA" Referring back to the tone and premise the MV has already established, everything about it so far is along the lines of myth and science meeting, Monarch makes scientific studies on the kaiju, but when they themselves are presented they feel not like overgrown animals but rather living gods. Genetic engineering is a real science, but it is yet to be established in the MonsterVerse and might not even be a thing there yet.
Anguirus or Baragon.
The gargantuas would be cool...also mechagodzilla, wonder if they could buy the rights to gammara
Since there was confirmation of the oxygen destroyer, I think it would be nice to see Destroyah could fit. Hell apparently there an end credit scene with charles dance character receiving a crab form of destroyah but that's just a rumor.
@MrAwesomeness360 We’ve already had an entire movie based on monsters from Skull Island. I don’t disagree that it’s a natural way to introduce/reinvent her, and that GA would buy into it. I just think it lacks creativity. With a genetic manipulation angle a more layered and meaningful story can be developed. That’s also one of the main things that sets Biollante apart from other Toho monsters and makes her more interesting. I completely agree about ditching the human DNA aspect, it’s far too woowoo for the Legendary universe. Mixing G Cells with plants ties into well known current day science and would be equally believable to GA, and to my personal taste would be far more interesting.
I'll go to left field, I would like to see Megalon
@PlainsViking
• "However, I fear that if the Monsterverse was around long enough for Biollante to be introduced then the “it came from Skull Island” approach would be tired and audiences wouldn’t engage as much as if she were man made."
1. I don't think the "It Came From [X]!" thing hasn't been done since...well...ever. It would rather be a refreshing thing to see again.
2. The FANS wouldn't engage it, the general audience (the people who the MonsterVerse is targeted to first and foremost) would be rather surprised by the sight of her. Besides, being a natural resident of Skull Island is the most practical way to introduce her that feels fitting for the tone of the MV. Godzilla and others have so far been introduced in a way that feels mythological, like some sort of gods, establishing Biollante in this angle is not only a new way to re-invent the character, but it's also captivating for the GA and they'll buy it easily.
MrAwesomeness360 I think that approach has a lot going for it. However, I fear that if the Monsterverse was around long enough for Biollante to be introduced then the “it came from Skull Island” approach would be tired and audiences wouldn’t engage as much as if she were man made.
