GojiFanPatGodzilla ForumHow Is Godzilla Going To Beat Ghidorah?

I don't really think that Kong is gonna team up with Godzilla in 2020 to fight Ghidorah again. If you didn't know already, Mike Dougherty tweeted a picture of the Oxygen Destroyer. Long story short, people are thinking that Destoroyah is going to appear as the main villain in the film, and after fighting each other already, Godzilla and Kong will team up to fight Destroyah.

GojiFanPatGodzilla ForumHow Is Godzilla Going To Beat Ghidorah?

TheGMan123: It seems more likely that something like that would happen. Godzilla (As far as I know) stands at only 108 meters. Ghidorah, however, is 50 meters taller, standing at 158 meters. Godzilla is more or less at the height disadvantage against Ghidorah, not to mention that Ghidorah has 3 separate heads with different personalities, as well as his iconic Gravity Beams and creating a huge electrical storm whenever he flies. We don't exactly know how Ghidorah will actually behave like in the movie, and the only thing that we see is him wanting to destroy as much as he possibly can; I'm saying that we only see his aggressive personalities in the clips from the second trailer. SPOILER ALERT: A person who has already seen the test screening of the movie says that when Godzilla and Ghidorah have their first fight, the military uses a weapon called the "Oxygenator" It's pretty much the modern-day Oxygen Destroyer. The damage that is done to the two fighting Kaiju (Or Titans, whatever) is unbalanced. Godzilla is badly injured from the weapon, while Ghidorah is unscathed. If this happens towards the start of the movie, it may show Godzilla slowly recovering throughout the movie. When the final fight begins, Godzilla may be weaker than he was when he first fought Ghidorah, ultimately leading to a possible burst of power from either Mothra or Rodan.

I'm pretty sure the only other toy is the S.H. Monsterarts Kou Kyou Kyouko Godzilla, or BioGoji, which was the Godzilla that fought Biollante in '89. It plays music, has a few roars, and has an atomic breath sound effect. No accessories though, which is kind of a bust. It's also really expensive

Looks awesome, but maybe lose the first two dorsal plates, and make the third a bit smaller, and it would be perfect. It's still extremely impressive overall

There's supposed to be some kind of Human conspiracy going on.

I'm thinking that perhaps Kong and Godzilla will be incited into conflict with one another through Human interference, perhaps an attempt by terrorists to both get rid of the Titans and harvest the aftermath for black market goods.

Honestly, I think getting a power-up from Mothra and/or Rodan might be the way to go.

During the end of the trailer, Godzilla's dorsal plates are constantly glowing, which could signify that he's currently powered up. I think that the key to defeating Ghidorah will be him gaining further energy to overwhelm his rival.

Yes, I mentioned the same with a thread...now a few years back. Considering how awful it could have been, the 1956 film was actually surprisingly good for what it is. Still, the original 1954 will always be the better film.

Well, he would have to be of comparable size to Godzilla for there to be a worthwhile fight, right? Otherwise, there will be no contest and people aren't interested in paying to see a one-sided smack down.

Awesome! Good to see that the KOTM design for Godzilla is being used, establishing proper visual continuity.

I do not think that the final battle will be 1v1. In the trailer, we can see Mothra and Rodan flying next to eachother.

I think that Godzilla will kill Ghidorah, but not without receiving a lot of help from Mothra and Rodan. I personally think that he'll rip each of Ghidorah's heads off but I do think that it's a possibility that Ghidorah doesn't die and returns in GvKong

I think they had some good story potential but seemed to forget about the interesting stuff. So there is a conspiracy and possible mutiny on the ship? Well, I guess that was wrapped up pretty quick. We have this grand plan to defeat Godzilla. Oh, it pretty much worked without surprises, that's pretty boring.

As for the second one, it seemed a little better. I did like how it showed the reliance on technology is a weakness. Though, honestly I may just be looking too deep into that trying to get something good out of it. I am fine with Mechagodzilla not showing up and it being a city, though I can understand how others were disappointed.  Also, the main character started to maybe just possibly get a little interesting and not just a half dimensional character like he was in the first movie.

I am hoping the 3rd one does something interesting with the other alien race. I am guessing they are going the religious route as the 2nd movie showed the weaknesses of technology. Also, I hope we get some decent female characters, but seeing as our best male characters so far have been lacking I won't be surprised if that doesn't happen.

I would LOVE to see Anguirus, being Godzilla's sidekick (like he was in Gigan, or Mechagodzilla '74), but mainly I want to see Godzilla kicking Kong's butt. I wouldn't be opposed to a team-up movie having the real villain be Biollante, Destroyah, someone like that.

I have to agree with some assorted points from my fellows above, there's a lot of positives that are worth celebrating like trying some new ground in the storytelling, being brave enough to change up Godzilla and the situation and generally trying to break the Big G into new ground, but I also can't help but feel that it's a somewhat wasted opportunity thanks to Toho's strange dictations about what the content could be.  It seems the original intentions would have allowed us a Mechagodzilla City mecha battle over what we got, but the overlords nixed it in favor of the human drama.  Good human drama is important to the kaiju genre, but in this case it becomes more tedious to me than it does genuinely interesting.  There's a balance there of delivering on the fan service we hope for (a good scrap and action now and then) to servicing a good story, but in this case it edged more on dull because they were holding themselves back too much.

But I agree with TheGMan123, it's good that Godzilla's branched out (no pun intended) into anime, I hope for a stronger effort the next time the attempt is made.

People tend to find this perspective a bit odd, but I feel that, even given its flaws, the anime was a success, though not in the traditional sense.

The anime successfully implemented new ideas and takes on characters and properties, as well as expanding the bracket for just how varied the franchise can get.

The trilogy serves as an important first step towards new avenues to explore.

In two words, wasted potential.

I think it could have been amazing, especially with the concept. However, it was executed in a way I can only call okay at best.

^Thanks. I found the article online. Not sure if that's the whole article in the actual magazine, but what's there is clunky and doesn't make a lot of sense.

Still looking forward to what he has to bring to the table. We'll all find out May 31st.

KoldWarKid62,
The entire paragraph of that portion reads:

"The Titans, we learn, are awoken from their slumber because the planet is on a collision course with self-destruction.

'It wouldn't be a true Godzilla film, if you didn't touch upon those things,' says Dougherty. 'Otherwise you're just making a big dumb giant monster movie. There has to be a sprinkle of it, otherwise you're not being faithful to the original intent of the series. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not a true Godzilla fan.'"

The next paragraph goes in to Adam Wingard visiting the set.

I probably tend to agree with the sentiments presented by YukisSpecial. I do, however, still love and appreciate, as he does also, the age old art of tokusatsu. In fact, my two favorite G movies are early Showa films and nothing has come close; not 2014, nor Shin. I don't have the energy right now to get into a whole discussion, but I do think it's the end product that's important and not necessarily how that end is gotten to. If Toho wants to keep producing G movies "old school", I will continue to tune in, but I'm not averse to them or anyone else utilizing a different approach, as long as the movies are engaging.

@G. H. (Gman), the snippet from Dougherty is interesting, and although I would never call out anyone for not being a true Godzilla fan, it seems a bit out of context. Do you have a link to the whole article, as pulling a paragraph or quote from anyone's conversation never truly tells the whole story. I'm sure there's more there fans would like to read/know. Thank you!

But Anguirus is arguably more popular over here in 'Murica, and it is an american film, directed by an American Godzilla fan. 'Sides that, that roar ain't Baragon.

Godzilla's_Tail79Godzilla ForumYour thoughts on the godzilla anime?

The first was one pretty interesting. I enjoyed the world-building, it kind of felt like a Jules Verne novel at parts.

The second one however was really just exposition and people having philosophical debates for two hours before a repeat of the prior film's climax. I thought the concept of Mechagodzilla being made of living metal to be interesting but beyond that, it was kind of a disappointment.

I'm hoping the third film will redeem the trilogy though.

Godzilla's_Tail79Godzilla ForumWho Is the Kaiju in the Mountain in Trailer 2?

Its probably just an OC Kaiju. I think there will be a montage of Kaiju emerging at the end of the movie to leave the audience with an impression of a greater threat to come.

However, if it is a Toho monster, it is more likely Baragon. Baragon also has a horn on his nose, and is well-known for burrowing under the Earth. Baragon is also far more popular than Anguirus in Japan so it could be a little Easter egg for fans over there.

While I can understand where most fans were coming from with complaints, I personally thought it was okay. Not the best for what it was going for, but the conceptual ideas and visuals kept me interested.

It's a decent first step into new territory for the franchise. A bit of a misstep, but better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.

If given more time to further develop these kinds of ideas in the next attempt, I'm sure it'd go much smoother.

I feel the Godzilla anime is underrated. There is much meaning and brilliance behind the films that most fans tend to overlook. I can understand why many fans would generally be upset with the direction the anime has taken but I would rather take this change-of-approach as opposed to what we have received from the MonsterVerse thus far.

Happy to see someone expand on my previous ideas :). Even though some of these concepts are a bit out there, some of these concepts are pretty neat.

I might do a remake of the speculation I made a long time ago because I have realized now that this less of a Monsterverse and more the Godzillaverse + Kong. The Monsterverse should really have a more diverse cast.

Naw, they make sense, but the plotlines of the Toho films and the plotlines of the american films have large cultural differences, And the plotlines of american films would appear to an american audience, rather than a japanese one.

Almost definitely Anguirus on mystery Titan #2, give it a listen on a good pair of headphones or earbuds, and the roar sounds mighty familiar: like a low pitched version of Anguirus' famous cry. Happiness is Anguirus finally getting more screen-time!

G. H. (Gman)

We have done a similar topic on this before. In fact, I remember that after I told you I didn't know many of the films from the 50's to the 80's, you specifically told me to catch up. And I remember saying this:

90's: Godzilla vs. Destroyah

2000's: It's between GMK and Final Wars.

2010s: It's between Godzilla (2014), Shin Godzilla, or Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019).

Well, not only will I now update it by saying I saw the 1954 Gojira on Nov. 4 this year, but I will also now say that so far, King of the Monsters (2019) looks more promising than ever. You're welcome.

Edit: Yes, I'm back, but I won't be here as often as I used to (or maybe I will, idk).

Brian,
And on the topic of your 1960s dilemma, it's a hard draw. I typically consider the "Showa trilogy" of 1964 and '65 to be among the best of the series.

I think the safe answer is Mothra vs. Godzilla, but the answer that more accurately represents the period is probably Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster. Monster Zero is probably the least safest, especially out of context--That movie is just bonkers and I love it for being bonkers.

Brian,
Have we done this before? Either on here or by way of twitter? Either way, great topic. I need to go back and see if this still matches up:

50s: Godzilla

60s: Monster Zero

70s: Terror of MechaGodzilla

80s: This fluctuates depending on my mood, but for now The Return of Godzilla.

90s: Fluctuates again. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah on a good day, but Godzilla 2000 if I'm sick of Kawakita.

00s: Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

10s: Shin Godzilla

FireRodan93Godzilla ForumThe falling object from trailer 2, what is it?

I think that by limiting possible explanations of the falling object to titans we already know to be in the film, we'll never figure it out. It's really too high to be anything being dropped (unless it's a really stupid scene) and there's Ghidorah storm clouds in the air, so it's probably not Ghidorah's origin. Any idea's besides one of the main 4 titans?
