TheGMan123Godzilla Minus Zero NewsGodzilla 2: King of the Monsters finally crosses $100 Million domestically!

Godzilla vs. Kong isn't delayed; it's still coming in March.

Also, 3 times seems a bit too large considering that Pacific Rim had an approximate $190 million production budget and was still viable after a $411 million total box office take.

Now Godzilla: King of the Monsters has now hit about $367 million worldwide and is getting an extended theatre run in China. I get that it's not good, but it's not too bad right now; it could definitely have been worse, such as with Pacific Rim: Uprising's box office take.

It should be noted that films typically have to make 3x their production budget to be successful. This film will lose money, so Legendary absolutely is worried about it’s box office performance. It wouldn’t be delaying GvK if it was has happy with it.

I'm going to ship Mothra and King Ghidorah since they were allies once. Seems only fair.

Just throwing it out there, I kinda ship Godzilla and Mothra too. I see them having a love-hate thing going on. They fight, they kill each other, they come back, fight again, make up, etc. Ships don't have to be grounded by logic. They don't necessarily need to make sense. They don't even have to be canon. Everyone ships what and who they want. You don't have to agree with it but you have no control on what other people ship. That's all I'm going to say.

I don't see what's wrong with the idea of them having a romantic connection, I mean they very clearly aren't mindless beasts, Mike Dougherty himself confirmed that each of them have their own unique opinions on humans and the relationship between humans and monsters, for them to have that level of intelligent thought they must be pretty much on par with humans, Godzilla is even familiar with the concept of human weaponry when he recognizes Castle Bravos Maser turrets are armed and trained on him and in 2014 he spots missiles stray missiles about to hit a bus full of children and blocks them with his dorsal plates, the Titans are clearly very intelligent creatures so whether a romantic relationship between Godzilla and Mothra is weird to you or not, it doesn't seem beyond their mental capabilities

just clarification: while watching the movie I just saw them as friends and animals with a symbiotic relationship, never even considered they could be anything more but based on the fact that Mike Dougherty seems to ship them romantically makes me think there is probably a good chance that they are meant to be seen as having a romantic connection in the monsterverse

Yeah, I think they made the right choice when choosing Mothra's design. These look cool, but they are not what I would consider Mothra.

Behemoth was definitely my favorite. We don't see a lot of elephant/mammoth like kaiju if at all. Hope to possibly see it again in GvK alongside Godzilla.

Exactly, I like seeing Godzilla and Mothra being friends over being enemies.

It's kinda nice to see a full-on bond between Mothra and Godzilla this time around, truth be told. It's something that the Monsterverse can boast about having, especially since it was really nice to see and general and lead to some of the film's greatest moments.

Well I wouldn't say there was any romance going on between Godzilla and Mothra, LOL.

Megalon arose from the harbor, his pinchers snapping in anticipation. The ocean stag beetle kaiju roar-chirps as he sprints across Atlantis. Legend Goji emerges from his volcanic temple, he roars back at Megalon before charge out in a full on sprint. Megalon thrusts his pinchers at Legend Goji's leg, with one claw Legend Goji lifts up the diminutive kaiju, he bites off Megalon's pinchers before tossing him back into the ocean. Mallaku and his followers stare in shock and utter disbelief that Godzilla crippled their god Megalon. Godzilla turned his gaze towards Mallaku and his followers as they prepare to leave Atlantis, Legend Goji snorts at the fleeing self-exiles before returning to the great temple volcano. Megalon resurfaces only to join the small atlantean flotilla in exile. "Mallakus, what do we do now?" said one of his followers.

"We build a new city, I'll name it.... Seatopia" Mallakus replied, "One day, our descendants will make the so-called God-King pay" he exhales exhaustively.

I hope Toho brings back the days where these two are trying to kill each other and Mothra is just a goddess.

@Xenotaris

Okay, all good points, I'll give you those. Symbiosis doesn't happen in a day, so a preexisting bond between the species is only logical.

Which brings us back to the romantic implications of the ship. I will totally cede that Mothra and Godzilla could actually be friends as well as symbiotic partners, but anything further than that gets a nope from me.

humans are essentially animals too. also your judging Godzilla and Mothra from previous continuities perhaps in the monsterverse Godzillas and Mothras have a historic bond with each other. Also the displays of high intelligence in Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah seem to be on sapient levels.

@SaibaShinrei

It's mostly the idea that Godzilla and Mothra, creatures with very high intelligence but still essentially animals, would understand and want a relationship beyond simple cooperation. Animals of different species forming close bonds is a relatively rare occurrence, and both kaiju have historically been pretty much loners. Also(more crucially I imagine), being a "couple" as usually implied by shippers means a romantic element, and that's just weird on every level. :P

Well, I had been wanting to belong to the fandub for a while, but recently I became a fan of this beautiful saga, and what made me definitely belong to the fandub was both the story and the characters (Mothra is my favorite Kaiju :3)

(by the way I speak Spanish xd)

what's the problem with shipping Mothra and Godzilla? and if the director ships them and they are shown as having some sort of relationship in the movie doesn't that imply that his intent was to establish them as a couple in the movie thus making his ship cannon in his own Godzilla continuity? but yeah more to the point, why shouldn't they be a couple? I don't see the problem with it

I liked Behemoth and want to know more about Scylla but I wanted more screen time of Methuselah. He was in Boston at the end but they didn't show a close up like all the other monsters. I hope we get to see him battle in future movies.

Behemoth and Scylla were my favorites of the new Titans. I want to see more of them in future movies (and maybe graphic novels too).

The first one is to fly like.

the second one is to Praying Mantis like.

And the third one is to wasp like.

But like how they did it in King of the Monsters. Probably my favorite Mothra version.

It seems KOTM was able to retain the majority of 2014's audience in Japan. If it were able to do the same in the US the monsterverse would be in pretty good shape.

World of KJ has translated Kogyotsushin's actuals for the 4th weekend. Godzilla: King of the Monsters fell to #5, which is slightly surprising, given the early estimates had it at #6. It pulled $1.1M USD this weekend, bringing its total to $22.9 million USD.

It's still on track for $30+ million, though $40 million is now a pipe dream. Attendance is currently at 1.69 million, which is just 100,000 tickets under Godzilla x MechaGodzilla's final take.

I'm really digging all of these. The first one has a pretty classical-looking head, but the beetle armor is a neat idea. The wasp ones are obviously cool, and I like that they tried the mantid leg arrangement on the blue one, having Mothra rear up would have been interesting.

Thanks.

Just look at how Disney released all their big movies since Captain Marvel. Perfectly timed and placed to crush the competition. The tentpole releases like Aladdin and Toy Story are the movies that people plan to see. Most of the stuff in the middle gets skipped as a "I'll catch it on blu ray" title.

I get the feeling Mothra passes her consciousness to her "daughter" and judging how she reacts to her surroundings, Mothra is quite intelligent.

Well, I enjoyed it. The Omni Viewer as the main character was an unexpected surprise, that was pretty cool. The narration felt a little too slow and stilted, but I get how that was to make sure he didn't stumble over any of the words. It also could have used more varied vocabulary and some additional sound effects to make it really come alive, but overall it was a pretty fun listen.

After gain some distance, Tark and his clan stared in awe at the two titans fighting. Once King Ghidorah retreated beyond the skies, Tark's clan bowed to their destructive savior. Legend Goji turned his gaze towards the tiny humans, he snorted before leaving the frozen steppes behind and returning to the cold ocean waters. Tark stared at the massive kaiju departing, then a loud shrieking sound came from the sky, it was Mothra. The moth kaiju landed on top of the severed ghidorah head, she immediately wrapped in a cocoon before using her wings to signal a male variant of her kind. The male Mothra prepares to casts a prism beam into the cocoon to set the remains ablaze. The ground shook then bulged, a giant beak breaks out of the frozen soil. It emits a terrorizing screech, its giant monoeye glowing a bright read. the kaiju thrusts both of its single arm claws out of the ground to snag the cocooned ghidorah head. Mothra and her companion dive down to battle the subterranean kaiju but the bizarre creature merely sinks back into the earth with his bounty. Tark and his clan retreated back to their mountain home. Tark enter the spirit cave, he smoked an herb through a bone pipe before receiving a vision from the spirits. He paints a mural on the wall of a future battle between the titans. Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, the great King Ghidorah, Kong, and several other kaijus fighting in a cataclysmic battle. Among the destruction in the vision, Tark saw the chard remains of humans, animals, and kaiju alike. Before the vision ended Tark saw Great King Ghidorah cackling menacingly above a the bodies of Godzilla, Mothra, and Kong. Tark awoke from his nightmare.

Very Early Holocene, Ice Age's end

Tark's clan gives rise to the one of the first civilizations, Atlantis. While most humans were still living in primitive hide huts, the Atleanteans have constructed vast cities on their island nation. They worshiped Godzilla and Mothra as their chieftain Gods of the pantheon, alongside Gamera, Rodan, Battra, Behemoth, Kong, Methuselah, Scylla, Anguirus, Megalon, Tiamat, Typhon, Titanosaurus, and many others. They were forbidden to worship the great destroyer who must not be named: Ghidorah, Shin Godzilla, Hedorah, Mama Skull Crawler, Destoroyah, Muto Prime, Shinomura, and Gigan.

Legend Goji arose from the Atlantean harbor to great his subjects. He slowly makes his way up the island until he reaches the center of Atlantis where the temple dedicated to him lies carved out of a volcano filled with radioactive material. While most Atlanteans stare in awe at their chieftain god, while praising his name. Some atlanteans cursed it, there was a growing movement within the Atlantean people who rather worship Megalon and Titanosaurus as their chieftain god than Godzilla and Mothra. So at the next council gathering, the many senators debated on the issue of rank among the gods to worship; A large majority of atlanteans voted on Godzilla and Mothra. This didn't stop the Cult of Megalon, rather be humiliated for next decade's vote for the change; they decided to force the change themselves. The Cult of Megalon secretly commandeered the summoning altar which was a large device that had the ability to call any kaiju recorded in its databanks. Mallaku, their leader tapped on the control board and turned the dials until the calls of Megalon can be heard from the large speaker units. "Oh Great Megalon, here our prayers. We call upon you to our sacred city!" Mallaku waited for a response, silence. The cultists collectively became depressed, Mallaku attempted again and again but no response until Megalon answered back. "Megalon has answered us!" shouted Mallakus.
