I mean... every opinion is subjective, so it's a little redundant.
The press certainly deems this film as an under-performer which makes me think WB's marketing team will want to take a different approach and distance GvK from this movie. (Hence why we've not seen or heard much of anything from GvK.)
It'll still have to contend with Universal's The Invisible Man the same weekend. (Which I have a sneaking suspicion will be moved since it just started production last month. But for now, it's there.)
I'm more concerned with A Quiet Place 2, the following weekend, and Mulan two weeks later. The former now has quite the following and the latter--Well... Disney will be Disney.
I don't really think it is a subjective opinion. In Human element, action, drama, comedy, etc., it easily tops the 3 current American Godzilla films.
Really, though, any film that wasn't Disney didn't do too hot this year financially speaking if they were expected to be large theatre presences. Between being sandwiched within multiple strong Disney films and the massiveness of the MCU, we didn't do too bad.
Next year will at least be somewhat less crazy.
"It will go down in history (well, at least until next year) as the best American Godzilla movie"
That's a very supjective opinion.
Looks like if Netflix were to try and design an Ghidorah suit
It will go down in history (well, at least until next year) as the best American Godzilla movie, which is one hell of an accomplishment. And it still made profit, so it’s a win for everyone! Well... less so for the people behind the movie sadly
That is scarier than King Ghidorah himself.
That is scarier than King Ghidorah himself.
Well, we tried.
I'm still proud of this movie for being what it was.
Human kaiju???mhhh
GMK has always been my favorite.
I Love Godzilla Growing Up Back in The Early 70s And Still Love Watching It And The Special Affects Today Are Awesome. My Favorite is Destroy All Monsters
I've never played a Godzilla game, but I want to...
August 14? That's only 4 days after my birthday! What a great birthday present.
Does Mothra count? If not, I also love Gigan, one of my favorite over-all kaiju.
Plus, that post-credits stinger wasn't put there for no reason.
They're up to something again, and they'd fit the Human conspiracy element of that old plot synopsis.
I think having a corrupt Monarch sort of defeats the purpose of having Jonah's group and makes the introduction of his group in King of the Monsters even more pointless than it already is.
Ok, that makes sense. I guess it’s just popular in movies for fictional organizations to make corrupt immediately equal evil and that’s all i’ve really seen in movies and tv.
That is kind of a poor comparison, I mean no offense. The Galactic Republic has always been a corrupt government, just it wasn't until Senator Palpatine a sith lord used a sith mind trick to sway the weak mind senators to his bidding and turned the Good Old Republic into the Evil Empire.
I can't see that realistically happening to MONARCH, I mean most modern MONARCH members worship/revere the titans and know of their importance.
What i'm trying to say is Corrupt doesn't necessarily mean Evil. Take Director Phil Coulson, Headmaster Dumbledore, or Headmaster OZPIN. They are corrupt but we ignore that because they do it for good rather than evil. Always giving special privileges to certain students/agents who are our protagonists.
MONARCH has already changed from its early days mission. Modern MONARCH are pro-titan, while back in the 40's and 50's, heck even some members of the 70's MONARCH were anti-titan.
I was thinking it would be a sort of Star Wars Prequel situation concerning the old republic. There were plenty of good people in the republic like Padme, but the corrupt outweighed those with integrity.
Dang, this is an interesting idea
I look forwards to reading your poems!
Godzilla is a force of nature, a God that brings balance.
Kong is the King of his island, and if you don't attack him, he won't attack you
Thats the way I see the two monsters, hope this helps
See, the fact is, there ARE good people. That means, that Monarch has little chance of becoming corrupt.
Mine is a 3 way tie between 64,66, and 75. Mainly bc all of those designs are from some of my favorites, so they hold a special place in my heart
UPDATE 8/01/19:
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is still in a few theaters, but movement is too low to bother tracking. We may get an actual in a few weeks, but for now the movie is stuck at $25.8M USD and 1.91 million in attendance. It'll miss the 2 million ticket benchmark.
The movie will only be the 22nd most attended Godzilla film in Japan behind Godzilla 2000 and Godzilla vs. Biollante.
Can't wait to see this new complete showa era boxed set from Criterion! It looks pretty well done.
Taking what everyone here has said, an idea had struck me lately, that of a Godzilla game and a lot of what this guy made in this other topic forum originally said are around the same ideas I’ve had, but once I realized I was restricted to my own ideas I sought the forums as I don’t know any G Fans or Kaiju fans for that matter to confide in with such an idea. My answer is this super google doc I’ve made, that’s so far 6 pages of detailed framework for a Godzilla game, the roster of characters is,,,,, 70 currently, as the game itself would have to be ambition to not disappoint fans such as the Godzilla VS did. If anyone still here is interested, I’d be more than happy to share the link here.

very excellent content this blog…..thanks
very nice information you share with us. thanks for this.
Heck of a question! Waaaaay back in '71 (52 n counting....) KK v G came on and that was IT! Godzilla is implacable, unafraid, ALMOST invulnerable and you can knock him down but he is NEVER OUT. G98 FORGOT ALL OF THIS HENCE WHY IT WAS TERRIBLE. I am loving the resurgence we have had in the West since 2014 and am still blown away by the imagery in the film and artwork of GKOTM - just beautiful. That was MY Godzilla on screen and the music was a massive part of this also. I am not blind to faults in the film but frankly ALL films have flaws and compared to Endgame, it was a plot masterpiece! IMHO ;-) Hello to everyone out there!!! :-)
Mine is a kaiju by the name of Giradorus from Ultraseven. I always loved how ridiculous he looked and thought he was so goofy and strange in his design, cool roar as well as a cool death. Loved the monster so I had to choose him
It's my favorite Creepypasta!
I really like it! Chapter five scared me the most. Red was actually creepy in places, the worlds were pretty creative, and the character designs were great. I feel like the relationship between Melissa and Zach could be done a bit better, but other than that I think this story is great. 9/10
