While I can't comment on the ability of an animal to reach such sizes, the Monsterverse Godzilla probably has the most well-explained and realistic Atomic Breath in terms of how it functions and why it could do what it does.
Official background info describes the process as him using his bio-nuclear circulatory system to draw out power that, when activated, causes a neutron flux to travel up his backspines to nucleosynthetic throat chambers that explodes into the Atomic Breath.
If you look up how real-life nucleosynthesis works, you'll find that the immense amount of blue plasmatic heat energy of the Atomic Breath is consistent with its properties. It involves the fission of nuclei via the flow of additional neutrons that can produce explosive aftermath effects, like a nuclear bomb or the reactions in a solar star.
It's essentially the creation of new elements that result in immensely energetic reactions. While the ability to naturally wield it may not be that realistic, the conveyed medium certainly is close.
According to calculations done by folks over at the Spacebattles Forums, a yield of several kilotons of force at minimum would be necessary to send the 141k-ton Ghidorah flying away in the way the Atomic Breath did. And lo and behold, according to the official MONARCH Sciences website, Godzilla's projected yield does indeed reach the 40-kiloton range within 4 seconds, approximately 10-KT/sec.
TL;DR
Godzilla has a portable on-demand nuke with all the science checking out for how it's produced and why it's so powerful.
I'm fully aware that Legendary is keeping the MonsterVerse PG-13 in order to gain those views from wider audiences, which I completely understand; the MonsterVerse really doesn't need to be rated R, aside from the fact that it probably wouldn't benefit the studios involved at all (I'm not sure the MonsterVerse will do very well as it is). If you don't really like hard core gore all that much, that's completely understandable. However, there's a certain limit to how much monster violence could be featured in a PG-13 movie, and I think that maybe Wingard is planning on pushing those limits, which I personally would't mind at all (as long as it's kept realistic).
I am sorry but Shin-Godzilla is not the most scientifically plausible kaiju, that would be Monsterverse Godzilla.
Shin Godzilla evolves like an anime/video game monster/villian. Cancer cells may mutate rapidly but are hardly a good example for shin's video game/anime psudo-evolutionary stages. Also Shin-Godzilla needs to be green (Chlorophyll) in order to conduct photosynthesis and also isn't shin godzilla originated as a deep sea animal before becoming godzilla?
Monsterverse Godzilla evolved naturally through the generational process of natural selection. Godzilla is an archosaur, the animal group that gave rise to crocodilians, pterosaurs, and dinosaurs/birds.
Mouths evolve for eating, if shin godzilla has no digestive system, he would have no need for a mouth and would use something other vector for self defence.
Monsterverse is "playing safe" for a reason. To have an R rated movie in it could potentiality kill it. I'm not much a fan of gore, and find it uncomfortable. Remember that Monsterverse wants to appeal to multiple audiences and create new fans, not just adults and old fans.
I don't want Kong to win, but he could. Kong doesn't have the same protective abilities as Goji, but is smarter. I mean compare their head size relative to their bodies.
Maybe Atrium was made second and cryosleep wasn't able to be installed. Or this was an oversight by the writers.
Looks good. What did you use to make this?
About that...This Kong has grown exponentially over the course of fifty plus years. Who knows what sort of power he has now. And no, Godzilla did not "withstand" the oxygen destroyer. He was killed by it. His heart stopped, meaning HE DIED for that time being. He revived himself though, and thats how he managed to drag himself to his temple. The nuke thing I agree with you on, thats impressive. But you're wrong in saying Kong isn't a match for Godzilla.
The issue that I'm having with this movie is that Kong is not a match for Godzilla. Kong couldn't withstand HELICOPTER BLADES. I mean come on! Godzilla withstood the oxygen destroyer, and one of the most powerful nukes ever used!
Well, I can only say this: HECK!
I've no doubts Junkie XL could make good pounding scores that elevate something like an action setpiece or long drawn-out fight.
It's the more character-driven themes for Godzilla and Kong that I'm cautious about.
He can totally win. Won’t be much of a movie if he couldn’t. Whoever wins will do it by a hair.
From all I've read so far, this doesn't sound promising to me. Toho went through a number of composers; some which were not outstanding. Perhaps we'll be pleasantly surprised.
Disappointing, but understandable.
It's honestly the first time I've felt the movie could has a modicum of a chance at the box office. Normally I'd be pretty sure Cruella will zap its second week prospects, but I have less faith in it after Maleficent 2 bombed. It could go either way.
It's really the only move they could've made to make sure the film can be competitive. November was getting too much backlog from all the other movies being delayed, and the global situation hasn't been improving enough to justify sticking with the original delay.
As much as we fans hate it, waiting to see how things transpire is the safest and most productive course of action.
No shocker whatsoever. I know some people are going to think this shows that WB has a lack of faith in the film, but this is actually a very smart move on their part.
I think Kong can win, because he needs to be able to win if this is going to be an actual good battle. But I really don't know who is going to win. Adam Wingard is the creator of films such as "Death Note" and "Blair Witch," two movies that I believe pay zero fan service. I think he could try to subvert this film's main audience's expectations. Who knows...
Not surprised at all. Though I must say, we've now waited for 2 years now for GvK since the release of G:kotm a year ago.
I'd be legendary Rodan. I'd get to sleep in a volcano and zip around like a supersonic atomic bomb.
No, Kong CAN win. It's a matter of WILL he win. And I don't think so. I believe Godzilla will win, due to popularity and the fact that Kong won back in 1962.
I imagine that the execs will be cautiously watching and waiting to see how theatres are doing a few months after they start to really open up again.
If WB's movies start doing well and the situation starts improving, or even the exact opposite, the May 2021 date can be shifted up or down to accommodate for whatever happens.
The movie seems to be relatively completed in most regards with post-production and only needs extra touch-ups and the musical composition to be finished up. Godzilla vs. Kong's release date is flexible because of this.
Heck, it'd be a bit of a hoot if they manage to move it up to the original March release period the film was originally gonna get :P
Not shocking. The November competition is stuff, Wonder Woman just got pushed back as well and the film industry's uncertainty in when a reopening may happen is a major factor.
*sigh*
I dunno, it didn't pack as much of a punch as I thought it would. Probably because I half-expected it in some way, even if my main line of thought went for a more optimistic approach.
Well, there you have it. See y'all next May, I guess.

November 5020: Godzilla Vs Kong is officially delayed again
Funny, this name was the one I singled out as the one I wouldn’t be crazy about and lo and behold.

^ the topic in which I discussed composer wishlists.
I’m with Gman here on this feeling like a cost effective move.
Maybe it will knock our socks off but come on, BVS was a collab with Zimmer and I wasn’t too jazzed by Fury road’s music.
I agree, what it really comes down to is how good the movie is and how the final battle/winner is executed. And yes, one of the great things about movies is how subjective they are... it's fun to share your own opinions with other people, and I find it cool how so many different perspectives can be formulated around just one film.
I do want Kong to win simply because I think it could develop the story in unexpected ways, but I do not want him to kill Godzilla. I think that the MonsterVerse has so much potential, and if it does continue, I would like the story to continue following Godzilla. Like I said earlier, it could go a million different ways, and I really have no clue as to what's going to happen
One of my favorite scenes in the movie. wings io
Uh, I’m rooting for both of them.
I’ve only seen Sonic and Alita so I’m not sure about this whole deal.
I’m actually okay with this. His music is pretty hard-hitting, which shows in Mad Max and Terminator: Dark Fate. He can range into some emotional scores too, which are evident in Alita and Sonic. I think he’s gonna bring a badass experience with this film!
That’s fine that you don’t agree with some of Godzilla’s fans opinions of pre-judgement even if it's for futile or prejudice reasons! Lol This is a Godzilla forum…..most threads I have cruised are awesome with your occasional smart ass (not insinuating you), but hey….it just goes to show how passionate we are! I absolutely love reading how passionate true fans are, even for the big Kong! I just hope we get to see a great movie and it’s done well and the ending is such that maybe, and just maybe, there might be another installment or 2. A lot of that projection though is based on how this upcoming movie will end.
I'm really not trying to bash anyone personally, I'm stating a simple fact that I don't agree with what some people are saying... I think it's unfair to judge a movie based on whether or not it caters to your own expectations.
Also, of course someone has the right to "piss, moan, bitch and boycott," even when it's for futile or prejudice reasons.
