Sparkzilla14Godzilla ForumHeisei series . . . kinda sucked

Show a series really shouldn't be compared to the other two series swing that they're the original series. My only real gripe with Shows is Godzilla's Revenge, the rest of the movies don't bother me. Hensei series is great IMO. But I think time travel of G vs KG kind of screwed up the series as far as a mixed bag of wtf plots. G vs Mothra is God awful. I actually like the SpaceG film better. The worst series IMO is the Millnieum series. G2000 great. G vs Megagurius boring. GMK good. G vs MG ok? Acting is poor as hell. G vs MG SOS Y IS MOTHRA IN THIS MOVIE!? Acting is worse. GFW is basically a rushed movie with a rushed plot and its terrible, sure the new monster designs were sweet but the movie is awful. Millinieum series is the worst.

I would like to see something as big as Godzilla. It would be cooler to see him fighting something the same size as him. The talked about studying the fighting technikes of bears for the fighting style of Godzilla. It would make no sense to do this, if he fights only spiders.

Seconded.

Anyway, for my favorite Unleashed Earth Defender?  Mothra!

For my favorite kaiju who has defended the earth in a movie or two? Mothra Leo!

I like Mothra...

PulsariumGodzilla 2014 ForumMy Rendition of the Muto kaiju

I personally reckon that the Muto will have wings like a dragonfly or beetle. Dragonfly in the sense that they are large and powerful wings, and beetle in the sense that they can be folded against the body and covered by a sheath. I personally think that the Muto flies and walks.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback nonetheless!

Kaijugroupie84 is on the ball with this one.  Kaiju means "strange beast", so (no matter what Zilla might have to say), size may not matter all that much!  Not including baby kaiju, Toho's smallest full blown kaiju is probably the Destroy All Monsters version of Varan, who comes up to only 10 meters in height and weighs only 60 tons.  Heck, Godzillasaurus is bigger than that!

ZILLAHATER you believe? Or you believe this from an early script youve read? And trying to correct us again?

No matter what you say, I still believe that centipede monster is in the movie, theres no way a monster that cool can be pulled out from the movie

That depends, do you thing the HOST is a Kaiju? I'm on the fence with that one. I would say they have to be about the size of a city bus.

The suit from Ebirah Horror of the deep is pretty bad. I don't know what they were thinking making the eyes so big. The suit from son of Godzilla is a close second.

Can I say Super Godzilla? Well, it's hard to gauge his strength though, since he's from a game.. How about Marvel Godzilla? He fought Thor, and Thor is, you know, OP as heck.

Well, the word "Kaiju" means "strange beast" it never mentions the size or attributes to make it a kaiju.  The beast in Half-Human is conidered a Kaiju and he's not that big at all.

You are a very good drawer. I like your interpretation of the MUTOs and hopefully that is what they are going to look like in the movie.

I don't think he will die to be honest. If he does then I think Dr Serizawa will create a weapon like the oxygen destroyer like the original and then he will kill him with that.

Well apparently the creatures are mutated spider-like creatures called MUTOs and there are ones that can fly too which will probably be like a mosquito. According to people who went to the SDCC 2013 the MUTOs are only 1/3 of Godzilla's size. They will probably be capable of shooting web or something and I heard that the MUTOs have a sonic blast wave. Can't wait for the movie to come out to see what the MUTOs actually look like and hopefully they are shown in the next trailer which is planned to release February 14th.

Deadite KaijuGodzilla ForumHeisei series . . . kinda sucked

Sorry but I have to disagree with you npinkham. I think the hesei series is the best and strongest. Sure it had its ups and downs but I personally think it is way better than the Showa and Milenium series and to me, the Hesei series had the strongest stroylines too. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and Godzilla vs Destroyah are my absolute favourites in the Hesei series and Godzilla's revenge is one of the worst movie I have ever seen in my life so I would have to say that Godzilla film is the worst. Everyone has their opinion and I respect you opinion.

Durp004Godzilla ForumOrga vs. Biollante - Who Would Win?

Biollante would annihilate Orga. Even if he has more mobility and a healing factor biollante still comes out on top.

First her vines can pierce right through him as they did Godzilla, can't heal when something is inside blocking the cells from recovering. Then each of the vines that has heads also has the acid spit so multiple shots from every angle. Biollante heals just as well, is unkillable for as long as she wants to keep coming back, and Orga completely relies on how much of Godzilla he absorbed. Seeing as Biollante took on the real thing and did very well I doubt a weaker imitation could take her out.

Durp004Godzilla ForumHeisei series . . . kinda sucked

Really you think heisei is the worst. I love that series, but I admit it has faults, but really the worst?

Sure the showa series started out strong, but then at the middle it completely collapsed. Sure it had a strong ending with the MechaGodzilla movies, but Godzilla vs Hedorah, Megalon, Gigan, Godzilla's revenge, and Son of Godzilla take down all the amazing things about the eary enstallments and makes the series less well done as a whole.

Then there's the Millennium series. Even if the later showa didn't ruin that series for you and you still consider it the best of them all you'd put the millennium above heisei? Sorry that's something I really don't understand. First we have the first movie which was decent, one of the stronger entries in that series it was followed by Megaguirus which I've never heard any1 say anything about that movies that puts it above the lower level of Godzilla movies overall. Followed by GMK which most people like so can't really comment too much on it. Then there's the 2 mechaG movies which are a mixed bag, but by no means great, followed by Final Wars which there's about a 50/50 chance of either loving or hating it. Overall even if the showa series comes first I see no way the the Millennium series overall is better than heisei.

Interesting comment about the difference between a kaiju film and a film with kaiju in it. In that case, what makes a kaiju a kaiju? And if a film doesn't necessarily have to be of the kaiju genre to star a kaiju, then there must be a strict definition, must there not?

I think it is important to look into, find lines and define becuase the tokusatsu genre is dying. With Super Sentai, Kamen Rider and Ultraman (which is practically on life support) being the reminants of a style/genre that brought Japanese cinema back from the brink, I feel like the definition of this style will be lost in time and harder to define in the future.

Just because it's dying doesn't mean it has to fade into obscurity and finding more strict definitions can help perserve it in film history.

AkagiGodzilla Forumhow big does something need to be to be considered a kaiju

I'm not sure there needs to be a line honestly.

I think its possible for something to be a kaiju film and something else to be a film with kaiju in it-- if we are speaking about subgenres and such.

Either way, the kaiju subgenre of tokusatsu is sadly pretty sparce and almost dead (Stave for the obligatory Ultraman blurb to pop up occassionally, though I'd consider Ultraman to be a part of the 'giant hero' genre more than the kaiju genre, but that is  just me).

I think at the end of the day, its all pretty subjective.

In a more literal sense "kaiju" could be used to describe anything from Frankenstien's monster to Gorgo. But if we're speaking on a level of word choices and references used to label specifics, kaiju does directly refer to Japanese monsters alone. Pacific Rim is tricky because of the script's diction. It directly uses the word "kaiju" as if it's an english term, much in the way the fandom uses it. I'm hesitant to give it a pass simply because it's an homage to tokusatsu, but the fact is the monsters are both called and promoted as "kaiju" so it's hard to get around.

The question is do movies like Yonggary and Gorgo get the pass since they're very, very clearly inspired by the kaiju genre and tokustatsu. Those movies aren't from Japan, yet they wouldn't exist without tokusatsu and daikaiju eiga. I'm fairly lenient about that kind of thing myself, yet it's an interesting question to consider. Tokusatsu isn't specifically a genre, but there needs to be some clear classification as to what these movies are and where they come from.

Kaiju, on the other hand, is often considered a subgenre-- Specifically Japanese movies about giant creatures attacking cities and engaging in battle with others. So where do we draw the line?

No film historian has cleared that up and I've spent the better part of the last year researching an answer. It's not exactly easy.

orga

if he gets in the vines he can stun biollante with that green ball or just shoot his beam or just smack the vines with his strenght and if he gets up close he culd just rip her apart like a weed orga might have a thought time with the acid spray and biollantes mouth but i think orga

GMAN2887

I agree completely, but OP was basically asking for technical explenations, thus I gave one.

Personally I'd say anything about 20ft or so-- as I've heard the word Kaiju used to describe creatures that 'small'-- and I hate using the word small when refering to 20ft monsters.

Either way, I'd say what warrants being a kaiju, from American expectation, is the general japanese spirit behind the monster.

I.E. Pacific Rim's homage to anime and tokusatsu. So it doesn't have to inheretly be Japanese to be a kaiju I guess, but if we are splitting hairs on nerdom termonology, we could be here all night.

I'm getting sick of seeing this, this is about the 50th will/how godzilla would die. The director said this may quite possibly be a reboot to a new generation of Godzilla films, with that motive, I highly doubt he'll die.

How do we know there is two?

When it comes to the monsters, there has been so much Bull going around, so called leaked scripts, weird descriptions and fan theories that slowly evolves into so called "facts". It gets confusing as F***, people get tricked (I`ve been tricked once or twice myself) and flame wars rage across the net. Its a true hell.

Enough whinning, sorry.

I believe there is going three them. And i believe that ALL of them are spider/insect-ish creatures. A super big one. A sort of ordinary MUTO, and a a special version of the ordinary one.

The big one would probably be the big gun, the final contender.

Also, KAIJU JIRA@, what monster on building concept?

like the monster that was standing on a building in a concept that one probably.

I think "kaiju" has taken on a specific idea amongst english speaking fans. Just like "tokusatsu" literally means "special technique," but is often translated as "special effects," the word is usually used to refer to a specific [iconic] style of Japanese special effects cinema.

Likewise, "kaiju" is now an encompassing word for the Japanese giant monster. While not literally accurate, it has become the standard to refer to these giant creatures as.
