luislockGodzilla ForumKing Kong vs. Godzilla

I heard that King Kong had to win because it was basically man versus atomic bomb. However I think it was stupid to even have King Kong in there. I liked the fight but Godzilla should have won. Plus King kong was nowhere near Godzilla's size to begin with. And it was stupid how Kink Kong could get stronger from lightnign when he could be killed by bullets.

This is not Godzilla-related. It is funny and I do enjoy Egoraptor's work but these forums are meant for Godzilla discussions. There are plenty of forums to discuss this on, just not these ones. Again, I'm sorry but if it helps I do like the video! Have a nice day!

@KING_GODZILLA24.7 Even then I still don't think he has a chance. Godzilla can blow up the whole planet by self-destructing, King Kong...well, he can throw rocks.

@GOJIRATHEGOJIRASAURUS Zilla's movie got me into Godzilla, I owe the guy a lot. Plus if the name "Godzilla" wasn't slapped on the film Zilla would've been a decent enough monster, and Zilla Jr. makes a decent/cool addition to the Toho monster collection. As long as we all agree Zilla can never meet the standards of the actual Godzilla and that the movie was poopy, there's no reason to hate the guy.

I, personally, never liked the idea of King Kong vs Godzilla because for the guy to stand a chance we gotta boost his height by the dozens. It's same Kindergarden logic as "what if the Jurassic Park T-rex was big enough to fight Godzilla, or Darth Vader..." etc.; in my opinion anyway.

They should've release godzilla trailer during the super bowl, it was biggest viewers in the super bowl history with 115 million people watching. I'm surprise theye didn't. the movie will be out in 2 months, so far one trailler and one movie poster. they says it cost them to make a new godzilla film, $160 million dollars. I hope they will earn more than $160 million dollars. Look at John Carter, they did awful job at marketing and they didn't earn a lot of money in the box office.

I've explained some of these things in another thread, so I won't rehash them in huge detail here, but basically, HazzardKitsune, the very reason you talk about (Godzilla not being well known or respected in the U.S.) is the very reason WB/Legendary CANNOT afford to do a lot of marketing.

There is panic marketing true, like GMAN2887 talks about, but that's more the exception than the rule. Usually, if a movie studio is cautious about how well a movie is going to do, they DO NOT want to spend tens upon millions marketing the movie because it's risky.

Spiderman is a guaranteed sell. X-Men is a guaranteed sell. So they can afford to market heavy because they KNOW they will get that money back. WB/Legendary really don't know how much Godzilla will return in for them, so they can't afford to market heavily/indiscrimantly.

This is not to say that Godzilla shouldn't be marketed....because it should be. But the marketing needs to be surgical, not a full court press. They shouldn't be paying to shove Godzilla into every household, it's too risky. Rather put strong marketing into your more 'sure-fire' bets, and really focus on those (like Comic-Con).

Last but not least....possible pessimistic downer theory....but potentially sad truth: WB/Legendary may have sacrificed Godzilla to leverage some of their other films. A lot of behind the scenes negotiations goes on between studios as they collaborate over precise release dates for their films. They each want their best money makers to have as little competition as possible. They obviously want all of their films to make money, but some films are simply more important than others for the studios.

So as a hypothetical example, WB might agree NOT to compete heavily against Sony's Spiderman, in exchange for Sony not giving much competition in/around The Hobbit release date, or some other type of similar arrangement.

I'm not saying I have any sources, or know for 100% certain that this is going on. But it might be possible that WB/Legendary are pulling their punches on Godzilla in exchange for similar favors for another movie.

Lol, who knows, maybe Legendary could go all Playstation, like how they backed out of DRM policies, making XBoxOne peeps look like fools after they MOST LIKELY agreed to cooperate on that issue........and market the hell out of Godzilla anyway even after they agreed not to :-)

I dunno, just thoughts.

1) He said all the way back in November he communicates with WB and other studios about their trailers.

2) Even if he didn't, it's really stupid to expect someone to just give away their source.

3) I already made a topic about everything related to the 2nd trailer so no other threads would be necessary. I'll update it with this info but other than that this is the same ol' same ol'.

Amen to that!  That would make a great bumper sticker!  While he's NOT Godzilla, the design is still pretty awesome and the animated series is infinitely better than the movie.  We may be in the minority, but in my humble opinion, as a monster character that is NOT Godzilla, Zilla rocks! :D

This is starting to look a little more likely, but I'm still not getting my hopes up.  I need more proof than one dude on Twitter claiming to have info.  It does appear that several people have seen it and are saying that it will appear on the 27th, but WB and Legendary need to chime in here and let us know what's fing on.  That said, we will see what happens one week from today! :D

That's not the point I'm making, nor the point I think the OP is trying to make. It's not about putting his name on cracker boxes, or cereal boxes, or any other moronic item you may think to place it on.

It's about spreading the word and getting the public's attention. I have confidence that the movie will be good enough to do that on its own. However, given a good amount of marketing, it could go far and beyond that and become an absolute monster of a movie, breaking records in sales. This would likely guarantee sequels, something which I'm sure we all would love.

Further, it might even wash the bad taste of 98' from the public's mouths, and bring a whole new wave of Godzilla love here in the states.

EDIT: @Daikaiju_Danielle: That's very true, and I can't wait to buy the large figure when it comes out. I'm just saying there is a valid point to be made about the marketing.

Guys, no matter how much you complain, the marketing is not going to change.

We have a Godzilla movie, we're getting a trailer soon, and we are also getting awesome figures. Let's be grateful for what we have. :)

Most of you seem to be missing the point, though to be fair it's not very clearly stated. The fact of the matter is, Marvel need only put its NAME on a movie, and you can be guaranteed that that movie will at least make its money back on Marvel's fanbase alone. This is because most of western culture has fallen in love with the superhero movie. ESPECIALLY with the advent of Marvel's very successful and well done movie franchises. Hell, both Spiderman and X-men could go WITHOUT advertising, and be guaranteed sellers.

Godzilla, however, is not so ingrained in the popular mindset. To be sure, most people know the name, but most people also think of it as childish, cheesy, or just plain b-movie schlock. This isn't what it is, and in my opinion something that is has never been, but it's the viewpoint held by most people here in the west. As I've said before, Godzilla is known, but he is not respected.

If Legendary wants to make their money back AND some profit, then they're going to have to either A: Make ONE HELL OF A GODDAMN OBJECTIVELY GOOD MOVIE. (which I am hoping for, by the way) Or, B: Increase the advertising and tone-setting throughout the country so that everyone knows this isn't anything even remotely like the showa-era fun-times. They would know that this is the King's return to serious storytelling, and that it's going to be one hell of a return.

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla marketing does kinda need to hurry and step up

Has it occured to any of you that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 might be pushing its marketing so hard because Sony thinks they have a dud on their hands?

GINO in 1998 had another $10 million added to its marketing in the final weeks because Sony knew word of mouth would hurt it. Warner Brothers threw $30 million in marketing for Green Lantern because they knew they had a dud on their hands and wanted to try and beat the early reviews. There's a thing called panic marketing and it still happens today.

What I see out of Godzilla is confidence. Collect and cool. Doesn't mean we get a lot immediately, but boo-hoo. Some of this complaining is just an excuse that we haven't seen more of the movie and the rest is needless worry. Let Spider-Man do it's thing. Godzilla comes two weeks after it. The hype for Spidey will have died by the time it comes out.

You know what WB and Legendary need to do for the Godzilla marketing? Ignore fans. Ignore what they say and ignore their whining. All the majority is doing is whining anyway, but why should they cater to us right now? We're going to see the movie regardless. They'll reach who they need to reach when the time is right.
