Look at that expression on his *bleeping face, haaaah!!
He mad as all hell
I love his human like posture, makes him much more scary than a dinosaur
Good work. Funny I was actually going to do a similar thing.
Yeah. Asia got the "finished product" trailer. Theres a fine difference indeed.
I have no doubt there are probably differences, but nothing that sticks out too much. It all looks like standard, western effects work of post-LotR era Hollywood to me. Nothing exactly genre defying or visually different from anything else. Same 'ole, same 'ole out of western visuals.
Which is fine. That's kind of the point here I suppose.
Awesome job man, wow! He looks like a crocodile mixed with a Hell Knight from DOOM 3 with some grizzly bear thrown in there somewhere 0.0
I thought it was imagination, but I also recognized that.
I think it's the image format, I also think the Japanese Versions have a higher resolution, a true Full HD, the US trailers look more like 720p HD ready.
There definitely is a difference. If you do shot by shot comparisons of several scenes you can see it, although slow motion may be required.
One of the most notable examples is the shot of Godzilla rising out of the water near the island during Serizawa's "In 1954, we awakened something..." bit. In the Japanese trailer, Godzilla's color is different, a much darker grey, the spikes seem to be at a higher resolution/detail, and the water spray around him is thinner, and more of a mist, rather than a thick white splash.
And that's just one of the differences. People already pointed out the Muto that was added into the Vegas destruction shot. There are some others as well.
I don't think it's Asian favoritism or anything like that. I just think the Asian trailers have come out later in the production cycle, and therefore have had greater benefits of post production editing. If we wanted the U.S. trailers to look as good, we probably would have had to wait longer for them.
Just my 2 cents anyway.
Basically, rather than being strait fire that shoots it forward though it looks like it would be similar to a shockwave that the leg gave off when it hit the ground that it could give off while midair it propel it upwards or forwards thus it can mostly just glide with minimal flapping.
Too many emotions to truely say how amazing that was! Chris is there any chance of a download for that video in HD? I have most of the trailers ported over to my wide screen so I can watch them like they are ment to be viewed! :D
Praise be to Godzilla!!!!
Durpoo4:
You mean like how Gamera had "rocket" propulsion that allowed him to fly?
Something Real:
Unless we are talking about Hollywood physics, that way a huge thing like the MUTO don't need to climb tall buildings to fly. ;)
The editing is a bit twitchy, but other than that it's pretty good.
Well these are monsters they could have some type of propulsion system to go with its flight. In the scene with the leg coming down it cause some type of energy that pushes people back, so it could have something like that when flying to keep it in the air.
I haven't noticed much of a difference to be honest
Good point Barudarrowi and Something Real.
Although if you are talking about eagles, hawks, owls, pulling in their wings, they are more like diving to their prey and darting through tight corners rather than gliding.
Whereas if you watch the latest trailer, yes, the MUTO does seem to spread its wings (which looks like gliding). Of course, its a Hollywood movie, so I suppose the producers don't really care to produce ultra-realistic animal flying behaviour.
I am 5 foot 4 so he is roughly 345 feet taller than me.
A God...zilla!
The winged muto looked like Gyaos lol
BTW, and this is really off topic but I'm going to start work on a Japanese style Godzilla tribute trailer. It'll be amazing, but nothing too flashy ;]
^Not my intention. I just like intelligent conversations and I wanted to see Gojira19's thoughts. Perhaps my attempt at humor failed.
P.S. Moved this to thread to Classic Godzilla if anyone's looking for it.
^Easy. Lets not turn conversation into competition.
Nice response GMAN2887. How will you follow suit Gojira19?

@Gojira19
I think you're taking the "god" line a little too literally. The line harkens back to how the people on Odo Island saw Godzilla in the original film. There's always been a sort of mystical air about Godzilla-- an idea that since science can't explain him, then perhaps he may be some sort of vengeful god.
Decades upon decades before GMK was even released Honda commented on how Godzilla was the symbollic wrath of those fallen during the Pacific War. GMK may have taken it literally, but the idea that Godzilla is some sort of god-like diety is as old as the monster himself. It's just not taken as judicially as Mothra, King Seesar...etc...
condors and vultures are considered flying animals even though they spend a lot of time gliding. Unless the animal can consistantly find high enough places to leap off from, it's gonna have to do some flapping to get airborn. And also to gain speed and altitude.
The muto doesn't look like a bug to me, bugs don't have those type of wings
This is definitely an interesting topic. I personally believe the whole battle of the sexes thing is complete crap and that both men and women need to shut up and realize they're equals in every way, but that's neither here nor there.
Here are a few things to consider when taking into account Godzilla's "gender."
One - The term "mother nature" and the phrase "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" were both created by humans. What are humans? Flawed. The battle of the sexes has absolutely no meaning beyond what it means to the human mind. In terms of actual nature when human mentality and societal views are negated, it's just a pointless feud that ends the same: going nowhere. Such phrases and terms have no impact on Godzilla's gender or the relation he carries with nature.
Two - Japan is a very sexist culture. Always has been, likely always will be. Women in Japan, even today, are viewed as weaker than men. This can be seen most obviously in anime, video games, and television shows where the men dominate the scene unless women are the focal point with few to no men present at all, which is a very small percentage.
Three - Godzilla is hailed as the "King" of the monsters, and what is a "King?" Male. If Toho intended for Godzilla to be viewed ambiguously in terms of sex, they failed. Godzilla was depicted as the result of an atomic bomb and is referenced as a "he" for a reason. Toho meant him to be a "he." Even in Son of Godzilla, Godzilla himself was referenced as male every step of the way.
So unfortunately, the debate about Godzilla's sex is meaningless. Godzilla is a symbol, and a symobl has no gender.
However, when it comes to his "implied" gender as a creature within the movies, he is undoubtedly male all the way. Godzilla has never been referenced as female, and that fact alone proves his "implied" gender as male. There has never been a female Godzilla, and there likely never will be. If there is, it's going to be a big deal when it happens, and I can guarantee there will be a lot of negative criticism about it.
